Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 22

Posted by ,

Our eighth and last minifigure is expected today. Hufflepuff will be a nice way to finish the group, as probably my favourite of the four Hogwarts house jumpers.

Let's see which character is selected...

Cedric Diggory serves as a good representative for Hufflepuff, wearing the same flame yellowish orange jumper as Hannah Abbott. As mentioned, this is my favourite of the four, thanks mainly to the adorably grumpy Mandrake, which looks as though it is about to clamber out of its pot, or perhaps snuggle down inside! The holly leaves and white berries look delightful as well.

I am not sure about the choice of hairstyle though. I will forever associate this part with Anakin Skywalker and it does not really suit even a young version of Cedric, in my opinion. The double-sided head looks alright though, featuring a determined expression as an alternative to the usual smile.

Since this is the last of our eight minifigures, I will take the opportunity to say that while I am impressed with the number of figures, the repetition really harms their appeal. A degree of repetition would be expected for characters in Hogwarts uniforms and could even be useful, whereas these jumpers would surely be unique, so having pairs of minifigures dressed in the same jumpers seems strange to me.

Overall - I absolutely love the Hufflepuff jumper, but I dislike this hair element for Cedric.

This being the *last* minifigure in the calendar, here's every minifig we've gotten in a Potter calendar to date. This is...a way shorter list than my Star Wars inventory, but then we've only had Potter calendars for like a third as long as Star Wars.

What do you think: First name, last name; or last name, first name?

Han Solo with his father-in-law's haircut

Given that Cedric was older than Harry, and this minifig has midi legs, this is the first Cedric minifig that’s not immediately doomed! Merry Christmas, Deadric..I mean Cedric.

If you had seen Star Wars, you wouldn't have claimed that.

Last name. First name, last name. Just ask https://brickset.com/minifigs/sc102/james-bond-black-tuxedo-(no-time-to-die)"

This then raises the question of whether we'd put "Lord Voldemort" or "Riddle, Tom Malvolo.""

Well, "Lord" DOES appear to be his actual first name. Like Prince. Does that mean Prince was also a wizard?

Yes. Clearly, yes. Overwhelmingly, yes.

By in United Kingdom,

Yeah especially with the head print emphasising his cheek bones, this really looks like Anakin has escaped from the Star Wars calendar since it was all droids this year

He changed his name back from that rune because he was afraid that Weird Al would use it to summon him and get him to agree to let one of his songs be parodied.

Do I spy a fellow Through the Griffin Door fan? Either way, Deadric jokes never get old…

Just like Cedric

Also, I associate this hairstyle with the Garmadons!

No idea what that is. I’ve been calling him Deadric since 2018, when I put a skull and white hands on 71022-12.
