41134 Heartlake Performance School and 40161 What am I? - closer looks

What Am I?

©2016 LEGO Group

It has been exactly a month since CapnRex101 reported on a small image of the box art for 41134 Heartlake Performance School; an upcoming summer Friends retailer exclusive set. Now Zusammengebaut has found the set at LEGOLAND Billund, Denmark and has given us a much closer look at the whole box, including the set's interior features. The yellow school bus is still the highlight for me, and I'm sure you will agree that it's long overdue!

As well, we have a better peek at 40161 What am I? from the same store. This set's existence was discovered only a few days ago by Brickset user Branko but now we get to also see the backside of the box, which showcases the minifigures included; a ton! It appears to be much like the classic board game Guess Who? and will be exclusive to brand stores.

You can catch both sets and their associated videos after the break.

What do you think? Worth buying?

That game looks cool! I like how Lego is being incorporated into interactive games (like the Maze) so that when the building is done the fun isn't over.

Since the board game has 24 characters to choose from, and this LEGO game just 11, I wonder if inside the box there are extra bricks to expand the game easily with your own minifigs. For example a few extra transparent screens so that on the top row there can be as many on the bottom one.

em.. what was wrong with the photo's I provided a week ago? No matter really but I guess it helps to understand what makes a useful submission for the site.

Game looks kinda fun. Um... why did they have to make part of the bus pink?! I'm sure everyone who likes the pink on the bus would be just fine with a more realistic just-yellow bus... as-is, the Friendsification is really annoying.

School... looks... average. Not actually a very interesting set aside from the sexist school bus.

^^ Nothing at all! This one is just brighter and more straight-on to the box rather than angled off of it. Just thought I'd mention the new look, sorry if I made you upset; was not intentional by any means.

^ I agree with Branko. It would have sufficed to post his images, or you could have mentioned his, just to avoid offending him. Good article though.

^ I did mention that it was discovered last week. We can't change the past; Huw was the one to add the original image to the database but he didn't make an article for it (not trying to throw Huw under the bus but still), so I thought I'd mention the set now with these new images.

I was surprised to see this game show up. LEGO games have been cancelled quite recently but apparently a few exceptions are still making their to market.

@PicnicBasketSam: Nothing on the school bus is pink that I can see. It has a lavender bumper and some lavender lines, but calling it "sexist" for a minor creative decision like that seems a wee bit overblown. If there's anything I'd complain about, it's the six-sided stop sign on the side. Can't quite wrap my brain around that one.

The school itself is alright, but the interior pic makes it look a lot less colorful than Heartlake High. It's really nice from the outside, though, and maybe it's just the angle (which hides the magenta stripes) that makes it look so colorless.

I will definitely pick this up after I get my grabbers on the old one. I want my Legopolis' residents to be educated!

Plus, this looks really cool. I might remove the music stuff for stop motion/high detailed mocs, but otherwise, this is a solid set!

The only Guess Who? I'm familiar with is the Canadian rock band...

I think the objective of the game is to create a custom minifigure and have the other person guess its configuration. A customizable guess who

the performance school has'nt got a patch on the heartlake high set, the school bus is ok and thats it although i looks small.

I picked up "guess who" at Legoland Billund last week. Will try it out with friends soon.

By in United Arab Emirates,

Do you think the Guess Who lego game will be available on lego online or just their stores? And will it be in UK lego stores as my 5 year old loves the game and lego so would love to get it for him.

@Aanchir

All US School Buses have a Stop sign on the side which swings out when the bus stops to pick up the children and the traffic must stop to allow them across the road safely. That was certainly the case when I was last in the states a few years ago.

Regarding 40161, this should be available in the same way as other sets in the series - from Lego stores and Shop at Home. Some 40xxx sets have made it into Toys R Us store so this one may also be sold there.

10253 should be revealed officially this afternoon.

@Calv: Yes, I know how the stop signs on US school buses work. :) I'm from the US myself, after all! What confuses me is that the one on this bus has six sides rather than eight. I'm pretty sure that in the United States, stop signs are required by law to have eight sides. I don't know if it might be different in other countries.

They had this at Legoland Windsor. Quite a few on the shelves

The bus is definitely the highlight of the school, and "de-friends-ing" it by replacing the pink bricks with black should convert it into a standard looking City school bus. Not sure if it's worth buying the whole school for just the bus though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ Aanchir: I think it might be based off European buses, because as far as I know the UK "STOP" signs have six sides.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm surprised the school box doesn't list the part count on the front like almost every other set. Looks like a prototype that they forgot to finalize before sending to production.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

@stevevoght European sets never show the part count. This is only shown on American boxes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Alatariel but it's shown on the "What am I?" box from the same store? I guess I'm not too familiar with the regional differences in packaging.

Excerpt from wikipedia 'stop sign' entry:
The 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals allows for two types of stop sign, as well as three acceptable variants. Sign B2a is a red octagon with the inscription "STOP" in white. Sign B2b is a red circle with a red inverted triangle with either a white or yellow background, and the inscription "STOP" in either black or dark blue. The Convention allows for the word "STOP" to be in either English or the national language of the particular country.

An exception is Bhutan which uses a red 6-sided sign with STOP in white.

A pivoting arm equipped with a stop sign is a piece of equipment required by law on North American school buses.

So apparently the friends universe coincidentally uses the same type of stop sign as Bhutan and this is in no way supposed to represent anything in the real world, excepting Bhutan. Otherwise I'd say TLG most likely messed up on that sticker.

By in United States,

Maybe Heartlake City is in Bhutan? And this is the first solid clue?

I doubt that "What am I?" will come with all those minifigs included. There will probably 2-4 in the box, and the child will fill up the other capsules with minifigs from their own LEGO collection.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

@ M_blockhead_357 those figures wouldn't be in the box cover if they weren't included

Gravatar
By in United States,

That game looks really fun cause you can mix up the minifig parts "what am I?" I'm a spaceman robot doctor policeman ninja!!!

I've never liked Friends mainly because I'm a guy but that school looks pretty cool ;)
