853544 Ninjago Skybound Battle Pack found in the wild
Posted by TheBrickPal,
Today sees the reveal of a new brand store exclusive battle pack based on the Ninjago Skybound subtheme (853544).
The set has so far only been spotted in Europe, but every fan will want to get ahold of it once it is released worldwide as ALL of the four minifigures included are unique to the set. A version of Zane reminiscent of his damaged look during the Tournament of Elements, a special variant of Nya as Samurai X, and two foot soldiers of Nadakhan's sky pirate crew make the lineup!
It should retail for $14.99 or 12.99€ if similar sets are to go by. onikari on Eurobricks owns the set and has provided detailed photography of it here. What do you think?

That purple/brown hat is the only thing of interest to me, the rest is not making me like this enough to miss it (may have to Bricklinc that piece later on).
Looks pretty nice. I like that the minifigs are all exclusive.
Will definitely get this! :)
Looks great!
Looks amazing! The fact that it has four fully exclusive minifigures makes it feel like a much better value for money than previous battle packs which were at least 50% existing figs. Now, instead of feeling like a Star Wars battle pack or City starter set with 70% fewer pieces and a 50% higher price tag, it's more like you're buying four different fully-packed collectible minifigure packs at a 5% discount! I hope this trend continues in future battle packs/accessory packs for other themes, because it makes the $15 price tag seem a lot more equitable (assuming, of course, this will be priced the same as previous packs).
The specific fig choices are not bad either. Tournament Zane never actually appeared in the show, since Zane was not a participant in the Tournament of Elements (in fact, his absence is the reason the other ninja entered in the first place). But it's still nice that he now gets a matching costume to the tournament versions of Jay, Cole, Kai, and Lloyd from last year. His weapons are very cool, and the big one reminds me of the one in http://brickset.com/sets/70730-1/! The exposed power source and battle-damaged face and arm are reminiscent of http://brickset.com/minifigs/njo085, but not to the point of diminishing this figure's novelty.
A new Samurai X minifigure doesn't fill as obvious a void, although it's still welcome since there have been so many fewer versions of Nya/Samurai X than of the other ninja. Shame we still haven't gotten her non-samurai season three outfit. This new design feels sort of like a mix of her 2012 and 2015 outfits, and is actually one of four new Nya designs this year! The lack of back printing is a bit unfortunate, but the alternate face print makes up for it IMO. Her naginata build is a great throwback to her weapons in http://brickset.com/sets/9566-1/, http://brickset.com/sets/2507-1/, and http://brickset.com/sets/2172-1/.
The two Sky Pirate Foot Soldiers feel very authentic to some of the stock sky pirates who appeared in the show, and are probably the best "army builders" of the bunch. The lack of steampunk-ish metal plating like on the other sky pirate figs might make these ones more desirable to people wanting to build a traditional seafaring pirate fleet. Their weapons are somewhat generic but still suitably pirate-y, and they feel very distinct from all the other sky pirate figs while still fitting in as part of the crew. It's kind of a shame they don't get names, unlike the ghosts Wooo and Howla from last year's battle pack http://brickset.com/sets/851342-1/.
A great pack overall, and I'm really looking forward to its release in the United States! This has been a really great year for LEGO Ninjago!
I could actually see picking this up, I like the turban in a new color and the dark green sailors cap is nice.
I remember when these battle packs had five minifigures. Those were the days.
I found 853544 at Legoland California during the opening of the new Ninjago world. It's worth getting.
I've never found any of these in Australia, I'm not even sure they're available over here, sad face.
Happened to see this at Toys R Us tonight in Nebraska...
I remember when these battle packs required building minifigs...
Wow
As Much I like it... Shame it has no new Skull swords...
And I am sure this Nya face is appearing in Samurai X cave!
Wow, a Ninjago battle pack not only with exclusive figures but also with Ninja and villains from the same season rather than an odd miss-match? And a new Samurai Nya to boot? And she doesn't have the slasher smile generic city face print they seem intent on giving her since she became a Ninja? Turban pirate guy!? Sold! :D
Also her new facial expression is VERY true to the show, I remember seeing her smirking like that countless times (often at Jay or her brother's expense)
Does the other pirate have CMF Series 4 Sailor's hat? I wanted that piece to stay exclusive to him! >:(
@ Xaran_Alamas they're not from the same season, the villains are from skybound and at least zane is from tournament of elements, i'm not sure about nya
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman yes, but it's technically still exclusive to the sailor since it's different color
@The Cobra: The battle packs like this NEVER involved building the minifigures. The first ones of this sort were the Castle battle packs from 2008 (http://brickset.com/sets/theme-Castle/subtheme-Battle-Pack/year-2008), in which not only the minifigures but also the weapons were pre-built, so arguably the new ones involve MORE building than those did.
The Star Wars battle packs that started in 2007 are a totally different product category: they're regular retail building sets rather than extended-line products like these ones, and come in standard boxes rather than blister packaging.
@TransNeonOrangeSpaceman: Mind if I ask why? Seems like an odd thing to wish for.
@transneonorangenspaceman
Like this hat piece in green
At least these are "exclusive" figs. Still, I think these are way overpriced.
Those pirates are absolutely fantastic. Always nice to get the Ninja in new variants. Can't beat exclusivity. Huzzah!
@ROTJ D'oh, of course >.< Oh well the rest of what I said still applies xD
