Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 13

The front of the box for this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar displays several of the minifigures included, another of which is found behind door number thirteen. This one completes the droid forces which have been building up over the last couple of days.

Battle Droids appear in over forty sets, often in multiples, so today's figure is of limited appeal in relation to those which have been revealed already. The design remains completely unchanged since 2007 and is almost identical to the original minifigure from 1999. I expect it will continue to stay the same for many years to come as it looks great in relation to the droids from the films.

75146 Star Wars Advent Calendar

As we have come to expect this year, the Battle Droid's blaster rifle is included. It seems increasingly likely that weapons racks will be completely absent from the 2016 calendar which would be excellent as that leaves more room for minifigures and mini models.

Overall - 3.0 - This is a fine minifigure for army building but is extremely common and therefore holds less appeal than many of the previous figures.

By in United Kingdom,

My 4 yo son loves The Clone Wars and has been eagerly awaiting this, more than anything else in the calendar.

They could have painted him differently.

I agree with Lordmoral: why not give us a pilot droid or the like?

They could have made him R0-GR! Every time I see a battle droid now, I think of Roger - help me...

I got another hoth rebel turret instead of this guy today. In over 1500 lego sets (although probably only about half opened/built) in the past decade, this is the first mistake or missing piece I've come across. Lots of other people seem to have had missing/repeated days judging from the comments. Perfect day to have messed up though as I have absolutely zero interest in battle droids.

For those of us who want a true droid army any battle droids are welcome. I would actually like to see more generic clone troopers released in sets. We've never had a set where a large number of generic clone troopers have been made available.

What did they redesign in 2007, I didn't know they did that?

^I think it was when they went from using two bent arms and introduced the straight arm. They were using the megaphone and trans red stud till this point I think.

I guess I'm okay with a minifigure today, but it is nice to have that blaster.

You can never go wrong with a battle droid. This satisfies my hoarding nature.

I agree a pilot (for the tank) or security droid would have been nice.

^^^^^^^^I was referring that Lego could paint this cute guy in a Holiday paint job.

The later droids have a 'softer' body in that there are no angular or sharp edges, all rounded. Only difference I can identify. Legs and head seem the same as the very first droids. I'd rather have a generic droid. Much more useful

The other change from the oldest model of battle droid is that the leg connection point has ridges on the sides that keep the legs from sliding off the end.

Here's hoping we get back to original trilogy movies tomorrow...

We got a dupe Snowtrooper instead of a Hoth Trooper, by the way, the other day, but Lego are shipping us out a free replacement. As always the customer service was great.

My Battle Droid has seen his fair share of the Clone Wars battles as he was missing his legs and was provided with two additional arms…, probably battlefield debris. “Roger, Roger…”

At least it's not a weapons rack!

How awesome would a Super Heroes Advent Calendar have been?

What was the rating? I would give a 10.5. :)

They could have added a 1x2 tan plate for his back pack.
Happy enough to get another battle droid for army building, although I don't really consider them to be proper minifigs. Glad to see the back of the weapon racks, and all minifigs with proper accessories, although maybe this has gone too far the other way? If they just had some festive element that could be swapped or left out it would really hit the mark. Not something that makes the figure unusable in your regular collection, but just suitable for the Christmas season. A bit of a nit-pick, not a major issue, but they are not looking particularly festive on my self at the moment.
