Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 14

The Prequel Trilogy has been the focus of the Star Wars Advent Calendar for several days and that continues with the arrival of a new Republic starfighter today. It would have been nice to see something which celebrates the imminent release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story but the excellence of this little model makes up for it!

Obi-Wan Kenobi's Delta-7 Aethersprite-class interceptor is perhaps the most prominent vehicle in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and it has appeared once before in the 2013 Advent Calendar. The two models vary quite significantly and this one is by far the best in my opinion, using 1x4 slopes placed sideways to form the angular hull. The thickness of these pieces is unfortunate as the craft is much sleeker in the movie, although there is little to be done to improve it at this scale and the narrow forward profile has been recreated very nicely.

I like the shaping of the cockpit and the white stripe down the centre is also quite attractive while the three dark tan 1x1 plates which are used at the front and back of the model represent markings from the film. These authentic touches are a delight and there is great potential for play as well.

Overall - 4.5 - The wings are a little too thick in relation to the source material but I think it would be difficult to improve upon this design at such a small scale.

Might have been better with yellow-green 1x1 plates, since that colour is more acurate (for the back of the ship)

The 1x4 grey plate makes this model thicker than it needs to be, but it's necessary to keep the nose on. Maybe two 1x2 trans plates would have worked better.

Suggestion: compare the mini models to their predecessors in older ACs? This is far superior to the older version of the Jedi Interceptor which I think appeared in 2012.

I like the suggestion of comparing models with previous versions of past calendars using images. This is a good likeness of the starfighter.

@ResIpsaLoquitur - I have no idea where the past Advent Calendar models are stored at the moment but will certainly provide comparison photos in future years. Good idea!

Rex, thanks! I hope I didn't come off demanding. I think comparisons would enhance the reviews, but you write what you want. :)

By in Canada,

There's an instagrammer "minifiglife" who is breaking down all 6 Star Wars advent calendars and grading the offerings to determine an overall winner. It is quite good.

I was messing about with it and turned the red slopes so that the stud side was at the front, funnily enough it look like General Grievous' ship!

@Jazstronaut ooh, and with a couple of neck brackets and two 1x1 cones it would be perfect!
