Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 21

Posted by ,

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story marks the return of traditional Stormtroopers to the Star Wars universe and these ruthless characters are hugely popular for army building. Today's minifigure is therefore a welcome arrival as we near the conclusion of the Advent Calendar.

The Stormtrooper has been redesigned on numerous occasions since they first appeared in 2000 but the current version, which first appeared in 2014, is definitely the best. I love the detailed helmet printing and the torso looks equally impressive, with extensive detail on the front and back. The trooper is equipped with a blaster rifle.

A standard Clone Trooper head is found beneath the helmet. I always hope to see a different generic head just to differentiate these soldiers from the Clones, although it is perfectly satisfactory in its current state. The only criticism which one might level at this figure is that it will soon be very much more common than it is at the moment as it appears in a couple of the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story sets, including a Battle Pack.

Overall - 4.5 - This is an excellent minifigure and I am glad to see another army building character, although the upcoming 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack does limit its appeal to some degree.

By in United Kingdom,

This is what makes the star wars advent calendar great: generic minifigures that can be strangely hard to acquire

By in United States,

I always look forward to my annual Stormtrooper. To date, every SW calendar has had some kind of Stormie.

2011: Clone Pilot
2012: Snowtrooper
2013: Phase I Clone and Scout Trooper
2014: Phase II Trooper and Snowtrooper
2015: Stormtrooper
2016: Snowtrooper and Stormtrooper

Here's hoping next year includes some First Order or RO Troopers.

I'll gladly accept this stormtrooper--what a great minifig. Happy with the leg printing, too. Still think that this is the best Star Wars advent calendar.

Second Stormtrooper for me within this year's advent calendar. First one was included instead of day 12's model. Have let Lego know and they will send me the missing minibuild from day 12. So, all good at the end of the day. And yes, think that this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar is probably their best yet. Looking forward to next year's.

Army building is never a bad thing, happy to get this guy today. Also enjoying the lack of weapon racks! WTG Lego! Hope next years has some EP7 and Rogue One stuff to add some variety going into the 7th year. Maybe even some Rebels eh? Agree that this has been the best one yet.

By in Netherlands,

Was it in previous years also common in previous years to get builds on the wrong day? I see it happening a lot this year.

I do love this design as well. I wish Lego would create a battle pack with only this version of the stormtrooper.

Why would the generic Stormtrooper head need to be differentiated from the clones? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Imperial Stormtroopers were clones. The First Order Stormtroopers were the ones who were regular humans.

I would certainly not say no to a new generic clone head though!

@DragonLord56: Nah, Stormtroopers aren't clones. At the Empire's inception the first Stormies would've been clones, but they were soon phased out for regular conscripts and volunteers.

Been such a good calendar this year.

If there were 24 stormies in the calendar, I'd still rate it 5.0 everyday.

Stormtrooper. The more the merrier! And a proper blaster rather than the stud shooters the Battle packs come with.

Ah, if only it were a Shoretrooper! (Or Scarif Stormtrooper, which one is it? TLG seem confused) Maybe next year, although we still don't have anything from Ep VII yet, so maybe that first. Some good vehicles and locations that would lend themselves to mini models.

@DragonLord56 It's always been the preferred interpretation that, as the OT Stormtroopers don't all have the same voice, they must all be recruits, so a lot of fans, especially but not solely those who hate the prequels, tend to get bothered by the use of clone heads for Stormtroopers. This is especially prevalent in the action figure collecting community.

I don't mind most of the time, although I wish the generic head had a more neutral expression.

I'm never not pleased to see this Stormtrooper!

I'm with JVM here, I'd be fine with every Stormtrooper having the same head if it weren't THIS head. It's not exactly versatile, and having more than one character with this ugly snarl looks silly pretty quickly.

So happy he was included! Sadly mine was a bit off-white. He sort of stands out next to his other brothers I have >< But still happy to get one!
