Star Wars Advent Calendar Review: Day 23

Posted by ,

The last two days have had an Imperial theme so one might expect that this will continue on the 23rd of December, although previous Star Wars Advent Calendars have yielded some great surprises on the penultimate day. Let's find out what is waiting for us this year...

This cargo sled is modelled after those seen inside the Rebel base on Hoth and it looks great, with an attractive combination of white and light bluish grey armour on either side as well as room for a minifigure to sit on top.

However, the sled is not being used to carry military equipment in this case and is instead devoted to the storage of ice hockey gear! It includes a pair of hockey sticks which are mounted on the sides to form skids as well as a sack containing ice skates and a puck. The black 1x1 round tile which represents the puck is rare, appearing in just eight other sets at the moment, but is also very useful so I am glad to see a spare included too.

Overall - 5.0 - It is difficult to assign a score to today's model but I like the idea of the equipment sled and it closely resembles the Rebel cargo sleds seen in Echo Base, albeit with a fun twist!

H. E. double-hockey sticks! Nice build!

At last, we can recreate that famous ice hockey scene at Echo Base from The Empire Strikes Back. It's about time Lego addressed this issue.

Brilliant set--absolutely a 5 score. It's not until my son and I finished it did I realize the tile piece was a hockey puck. We had Luke and the the Rebel Trooper engage in a hockey game immediately with the sticks. (I wish it came with two pairs of skates, though.)

The premium price paid for the SW calendar is really evident this year. Hopefully future years continue the trend of excellence. I suspect these are planned years in advance, and maybe next year we'll see some Episode 7 models and minifigures.

With the exception of the first year, I have collected every Star Wars advent calendar and can honestly say ghis year has been the best ever! Fantastic army builders (naval trooper, snow trooper, stormies, hoth rebel- even the battle droid), fantastic exclusives and rare minifigures (U-3PO and Wing Guard) and some usable mini- builds. Best of all... no weapons racks!

I can't find any pictures of a cargo sled from inside Hoth Echo base. Can someone provide a link?

Love this. I think it's meant as a sleigh, and it works much better than some from other years.

Wow, dangerously close to a weapons rack! Just kidding - looks like we got lucky this year :P

Just opened day 24... What a perfect way to end an amazing Amazing calendar! And it's the main reason I got it. :)

Completely underwhelmed. I do appreciate the cargo sled as a Christmas sleigh, but blah.

Oooooh. Thanks Rex. It looks a lot like a mobile hot tub. That's what I would want if I was stationed on Hoth.

Worst build of the calendar. I'm excited to have hockey sticks and skates, although only enough for 1 1/2 players, but the model itself is an unidentifiable lump of boring.

I was hoping to get the Hoth Rebel with ski-mask, disappointed that's not the case. He's on the box man.... Overall, my son and I like what was included and this is our first calendar set, so here's to hoping for future sets.
