LEGO revving up to release more Speed Champions in 2018

Posted by ,

I must admit I thought we'd seen the last of Speed Champions so I was surprised when crayxmp contacted us to say that 2ttoys.nl has listed six sets for January release.

There isn't a lot of detail provided other than the make of car and price:

  • 75884 Ford - 14.99€
  • 75885 Ford -14.99€
  • 75886 Ferrari - 14.99€
  • 75887 Porsche - 14.99€
  • 75888 Porsche - 39.99€
  • 75889 Ferrari - 99.99€

Cool, the displays for adult fans will increase.

Still waiting for Lambos.

By in Germany,

I really like the Speed Champions sets (well, most of them at least), but I'd say we had enough Ford and Ferrari...

By in Australia,

No new licences unfortunately. Would be nice to see BMW since we already had the technic bike this year.

By in United States,

Wish we could have seen some more licenses. Too much Ford for my taste. Excited to see what Porsche models will be on offer, hopefully some road cars. Hope the 99 Ferrari isn't another truck.

Lambos would be great!

I was at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and the Ford stand had a pretty large area dedicated to their Lego partnership, complete with a large scale Lego GT40, so it's probably safe to assume that the partnership between these two is pretty strong. I would also still rather have Lamborghini though - despite the fact that the cars lend themselves even less to Speed Champions models.

By in United States,

Very happy to see more Speed Champions for 2018. I wonder what models the two Fords could be. One might be a 60's Mustang. I agree, some new makes/licenses like Lamborghini and BMW would have been nice.

I'm calling:

Road Ford GT - I know they just did the Le Mans winner last year, but we know they've at least done a prototype of the road version because it was in that video on Ford's YouTube channel

M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC - Because we haven't seen a rally car yet, and M-Sport won the 2017 WRC championship (also took Silver and Bronze)

Ferrari 488 GTB - Road or GTE. Because what else has Ferrari done?

Some sort of road Porsche 911 - I mean, unless they're doing a Cayenne, what else does Porsche even make?

2017 Le Mans winning Porsche 919s - Yes, there was a 919 in the set two years ago, but again, what else could Porsche do in a two-car set?

Rerelease of 75913 (Ferrari truck) - Because we're in the Year of Re-Releases, and there needs to be an F1 something.

Changing the subject slightly, I'm also betting that this will be the end of the Speed Champions line. Basing this mostly on the fact that Craig Callum (the lead designer) is no longer working for Lego.

By in Canada,

Really was hoping for some new/different brands.

By in Malaysia,

I wonder what will be included in the $99 Ferrari set. Hopefully not F1 related

By in Australia,

Ford Mondeo BTCC version would be cool

By in United States,

The Ford I'm guessing is the Ford GT, new gen Mustang, or even another Raptor.

Ferrari set I'd say 488GTE or even an 812 Superfast could be a far stretch. The more expensive set I'd say would be similar to the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 pit set but with a truck.

I'd agree with others on the Porsche subjects. It has to be some kind of 911 (road or race). The other one could be the 919 or e-tron as a far stretch speculation. Most likely the 919, though.

In either case I'm glad LEGO had committed to this car and race theme. I love motorsport as much as LEGO. ;)

I am hoping for a Speed Champions scale Ferrari F-40.

By in United Kingdom,

I garuntee from the 720s spare wheel covers that one of the Ferrari sets is an F40. That would be great, because I could display it next to my big-scale creator expert one.

75884 & 75885: Fiesta RS WRC, Focus RS WRC, 1968 Mustang GT 390 fastback, Model T, Thunderbird, Pinto, Capri, Bronco, Sierra RS Cosworth, Ford Shelby GR-1

75886: Ferrari 308 GTS, 360 Modena or GT, 488 GT3, Enzo, F40, Testarossa, Portofino (although it's a little late for the 70th anniversary)

75887: Porsche Mission E concept, RS Spyder, 924 Carrera GTR

75888: Porsche 911 (GT3 RS) & 911 (930 Turbo)
75889: Ferrari It's a truck. Or a racing track, maybe? Doubt it. Could be a Pit Lane crew plus garage? And two cars - whatever the latest F1 model is...

As my son has shown more and more interest in this series I have grown to like it. A bit too heavy in the modern stuff for my tastes but still impressive. LEGO has done a good job replicating these cars in brick form. I would be a bit surprised to see it go after this year but I also believe it's not a top seller. The SC shelves are always fairly full.

By in United States,

I absolutly love the Speed Champions line, mostly because I also love cars. Have everything from every wave except for the Mercedes Team Gift (75995-1). Hopes:
Ford GT- Honestly, I'm surprised why they haven't done it before except for the Le Mans one.
Ford 67 Mustang-I'm a Mustang fan, my dad love the 67 Mustang, and I think it would be kind of cool to get to 2015 and '67 Mustangs and put them next to each other.
Ferrari 250 GT California(?)- If you don't know it, it's the Ferrari from Ferris Buller's Day Off, and I like the shape and looks of it.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Most likely going to be a 911, this is, I think, the most popular model
*Safe to say next two will have a scene and at least two cars, sets over $14 always have been*
Porsche (??)-Honestly, I don't have any ideas for this one, I think it might be nice to see Le Mans cars so you could do a Ford vs. Porsche Le Mans Race.
Ferrari F1 Team- Last time they did it, it was in the 1st series, which came out in 2015 (!) so Lego might think 2 years is enough to re-release stuff.

By in Canada,

I have really enjoyed this series but was kind of thinking it was done. Will wait to see what the sets look like. I had completed all sets other than that special release so slightly torn as whether to continue or not.

By in New Zealand,

I hope that Speed Champions continues for ever. It is this theme that changed me from a LEGO collector of 30 years to a LEGO builder creating many MOC's of buildings and vehicles related to the SC theme. Looking forward to the new sets that won't arrive in New Zealand until July 2018 :(

By in United Kingdom,

The Ford one is gonna be Ken Block's Hoonicorn Mustang. I remember LEGO presenting him with an official one at Le Mans this year. If You are on Instagram go on Ken Block's profile and scroll down to his video of it on 21st June

By in United Kingdom,

I'd like an escort cossie, but I suppose it's not that well-known outside the UK, and the spoiler would be near impossible (macaroni tiles and a plate with bar?)

By in Australia,

I also wish we got more cars from brands other than Ford and Ferrari and Porsche and Audi.
I want something from Lamborghini. Or more from GM beyond that one Corvette. Or things from any number of other car brands out there (Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Japanese brands) instead of more of the same boring crappy brands over and over again. (no I dont like Fords, Ferraris, Porsches, Audis, BMWs, VWs or Mercs :)
Heck, why not a Tesla in there, it would be a way for LEGO to seem to be "green" and supporting the environment (like with the other "green" things they have put in sets as of late)
