Shanghai skyline set revealed
Posted by Huw,
The Shanghai LEGO store has revealed the stunning-looking Architecture skyline set 21039 Shanghai in a WeChat post.
From what I can tell from Google's translation of the page, the buildings are, from left to right:
- Longhua Temple and tower
- Bund waterfront area with the Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World behind
- Oriental Pearl TV Tower
- Shanghai World Financial Center
- Shanghai Center Building
The post goes on to say that it'll be available from December 2nd in the store, then globally from 1st January. Jamie Berard will be in attendance on the 2nd to sign sets.
Thanks to spicypig for the news.

How on earth is that tower on the right constructed? It doesn't look like a simple stack of slightly twisted 2x2 jumper plates.
Damn it's even bigger than I expected. A must-buy for all AFOLs in China. And Jamie is coming to CHINA????? It's a shame I can't be there..
It looks fantastic... what's with that tower on the right, I also don't get it...?
The tower on the right must be made of new pieces. Technically the 2x2 jumper plates could be used, but would be an absolute nightmare to correctly line up.
MUST HAVE!
This indeed looks great! And the tower to the right is rather intriguing...
Possibly the most interesting builds and best appearance of any of the "skylines" to date, yeah? Building on the right is most likely a stack of part 32249 with one or two "rigid" (bendable) 3mm hoses used to form & hold the twist.
I think the Shanghai Tower is actually constructed almost entirely form part number 32249 (HALFBEAM CURVE 3X3)
Looks like jang just beat me to it :)
Can't wait for hands-on reviews. Shanghai Tower is the pièce de résistance for sure.
Bring it to me!
Smart set both in appearance and construction.
To more accurately reflect the real skyline, shouldn't the Oriental Pearl be further left?
Nice counter top.
The building on the far right looks like it has a reflective quality. Could this be some sort of chrome brick or tile?
I'm not a collector of Architecture sets, but I might get this for the parts.
The images of both Shanghai and Las Vegas got leaked about a month ago. The last, grey tower looks interesting.
Itlooks great! After visiting Shanghai last year, I was also thinking about how I could do my own Oriental Pearl TV Tower! It's so retro! And yes, the one on the far right is the amazing new Shanghai Tower (designed by Gensler), currently second tallest building in the world.
^^ Maybe, but we don't report on leaks.
The Brothers Brick has a better image: https://www.brothers-brick.com/2017/11/22/new-shanghai-lego-architecture-set-revealed-news/
I wonder if the blue tower is using lots of those new 1x3 double jumper plates.
I'm not really a fan of Architecture sets, but this one looks incredible. I wonder though, how the two towers on the right are exactly constructed, can't wait for a detailed review and if this set isn't too expensive I might get one.
The Pearl is a little awkward—I don't really love the indents of stacked 3062 cylinder-bricks—though don't dislike as much as the original Burj Khalifa—but the other towers are well done. I hope it would be priced around the same as US$59 like New York City— but looks like it could push $10 higher.
The shanghai skyline is the only architecure set i’ll Ever buy!
Finally an Asian skyline! How could they still not make a Hong Kong skyline? And no Jin Mao Tower.
Anyone know where to find a good image of the Las Vegas skyline kit? Wanted to check it out.
Oh my goodness yes. This is nuts. The way they did the Pearl and the new Shanghai tower ...breathtaking.
Still wishing for a Boston skyline.
I am surprised they did not include Jin Mao tower in it.
Got one yesterday at the international launch in Shanghai. It’s a pretty neat set and very fun to build.
