Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 3
Posted by CapnRex101,The LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar has taken inspiration from several new sources, including Star Wars Rebels, in 2017. I am hopeful that we will continue to see a fresh selection of models and figures emerge over the next few weeks, following the trend set on days one and two.
The first door opened to reveal the Ghost so we should have expected to find the Phantom soon after! This short-range shuttle consists of just eleven pieces but includes several recognisable details, with a large cockpit canopy at the front and angled wings towards the rear. I like the splash of flame yellowish orange which reflects the colour scheme of the vehicle in the animated series and the 1x1 plate on top looks good too.
However, my favourite feature is definitely the twin laser cannons fitted beneath the cockpit. These are represented by a 1x1 plate with a horizontal clip and can be extended from the fuselage, just as in the animated series. The image above shows the model as it appears on the inside of the door but you can move the clip further forward by a stud and fill in the space left behind using the spare 1x1 plate. I should acknowledge that the wings look too bulky but I am not sure how they could have been improved upon given the scale.
Overall - 4.0 - It is difficult to depict the Phantom accurately at such a small scale but I think the designer has done quite well, incorporating many of its most prominent features and plenty of subtle detail.

I, too, think it's a good representation of the craft. I liked building it!
I thought this was a snowspeeder while building it, but then I built it and took a look at it. It looks nothing like a snowspeeder when finished and I was stumped. Thanks!
I like it, but why do the original phantom? It was destroyed over a season ago!
I think it would be hard to depict the Phantom II at this scale.
^ @MaskMaker and @Speed champions fan - the phantom 2 would of actually been easier to make as they could just of copied one of the 2 separatist shuttle from the older advent calendars and recoloured it! I prefer how they have gone for a unique model not just a recoloured old one !
Ah I was unaware that makes sense.
^^you'd need to shorten the fin, too
One of the most fun aspects of these calendars is trying to guess what the model is and building it without looking at the instructions. After yesterday's Ghost, it was pretty obvious this was the Phantom. I got pretty close to the correct build. Just had the yellow plate in the wrong place and the blasters too far forwards.
Being that the Phantom is supposed to dock to the back of the Ghost, I took 1 translucent clear stud and placed it under the 1x1 horizontal clip on the Phantom. I then docked my Phantom to the back of the Ghost for display.
The level of ingenuity in these early micro builds is really impressive - plus of course the appeal of being vehicles we've never had before in a calendar! The bar has been set very high in the first 3 days.
This one is ok.
According to the new Star Wars book by DK this seems to be the 2nd Phantom though because the first Phantom was already out in the previous Advent calendar
