City Advent Calendar: Day 4

Posted by ,

The third door opened to reveal a fireplace and some more indoor furniture would be welcome today, particularly if its design is suited to a rural cottage in the style of yesterday's gift. Read on and find out...

This chair and side table assembly is very simple, consisting of a mere eight pieces. A big armchair would perhaps have been more appropriate for sitting in front of the fire than this element, although I think the red colour scheme has been well chosen and the reddish brown 2x4 plate on which it is constructed matches the wooden floor on the display mat.

My favourite aspect of today's model is definitely the side table. I like the pearl gold lamp, featuring a trans-orange 1x1 round plate to represent the bulb beneath the shade, while the Christmas tree ornament is instantly recognisable despite being built using just two pieces! Both the reddish brown 1x1 round plate and green 1x1 cone were included as spares in my set so hopefully we will find somewhere to put another little tree over the next few days.

Overall - 3.0 - This is a useful piece of scenery but I think a larger armchair would have been more fitting with the fireplace that arrived yesterday.

I agree that the armchair could have been built with 4 or 5 pieces of lego.
However another moulded chair is always useful for MOC's.
This scene fits nicely with the fireplace from the 3rd.

I also had a spare xmas tree, which could be useful later.

I don't think I've ever seen a spare 1x1 cone piece before!

im not sure about within the calendar, but I use the 1x1 cone in 40082 to show a growing tree.

This was a boring build honestly, ´glad it didn't come at day 22 or something like that, it's good to get the boring builds first and best ones at last. But I still think it was an averege build.

I might be in a minority over here.. but I kind of thing that IF this going to go on for another 20+ days (2-3 reviews per each day for advent calendar's mysteries], that many would rather hybernate and sleep it off.. I truly do not see any point why to make so many individual reviews for each "slot" in the calendar - and more to it .. why to make one review per City advent slot, 2nd for Friends advent slot etc.. could you at least "combine them" into one review?

@crayxmp I love that they do this. I do not open them, my son did not enjoy it much a few years back and I do not see the value in them. But I still love seeing what comes out of the boxes each day.

I for one appreciate the time and effort taken to write each review for each day of each calendar. I enjoy checking Brickset throughout the day and reading all of the articles, even for the Advent Calendars we didn't purchase this year (only have SW and Friends). Thanks again for all the hard work you guys put in to making this the best LEGO fan website on the Internet!

@ensigndan You probably got me wrong. I have nothing against the Advent sets produced - I was just opposing that each day you have three separate reviews what was in Friends Advent calendar.. what was in City calendar.. and what was in SW calendar. .. thats what I was commenting about.. that it could be easily comprised in a single review per day (not three different articles).

This is not a boring build... these are made for kids to enjoy, not adults. The way these are sent out are 100% fine. Nothing wrong with them ever cause again, these Advent Calenders are for the kids.

@crayxmp bah-humbug to you sir :-)

Everyone loves "the christmas", and these little reviews are very useful. I honestly thought todays build was an outside heater and lavalamp, with a red sunlounger. Guess it's all in the imagination :-)

Geez! You ppl really didnt get what I meant??? Just to put all all these (individual) daily advent calendars reviews INTO ONE SINGLE ARTICLE! .. besides they are published almost at the same time so you wont miss anything.. one of the reasons why I VOTE for this is.. that right now the homepage is full of advent reviews and nothing else. Just Advent calendar - is that going to be the TOTAL theme for December?

@CapnRex101 (if you read these comments...)
For each day, can you please include a photo at the end of the review that includes all of the builds up to that point? It would be nice to see the storyline come together as each new detail is added.

@crayxmp - I understand your point of view but we are going to continue publishing separate articles as this is a very busy time of year so keeping the site fresh is beneficial. You can adjust your news preferences to remove the Advent Countdown if you wish.

@synapse77 - We always read the comments! Thanks for the suggestion; I will take weekly photographs as the display mat fills up.

I love reading all the individual reviews for all the different advent calendars even the ones I don’t own. Keep up the great work Brickset team!

Keep posting each Advent and 24in1 Build Up Set ítems separately. I enjoy opening the site when I am bored at work and read one article!! Moreover, some people will only read the Calendar they are interested in.
