City Advent Calendar: Day 10

Posted by ,

This year's Advent Calendar has been split fairly evenly between furniture, toys and minifigures thus far. I am looking forward to discovering what lies behind door number ten.

A propeller aeroplane appeared on day six and is now joined by another kind of aircraft. This model resembles a seaplane of some kind given the high wing placement and rounded underside, although there are no turboprops or supports at the wingtips. Nevertheless, the craft looks superb, featuring a cockpit, a tailplane and an attractive colour scheme of flame yellowish orange, red and black which matches the Canadair CL-215 almost perfectly. Perhaps the designer took some inspiration from the famed amphibious aircraft.

Its design also reminds me of 31064 Island Adventures, albeit without the twin-boom configuration. The curvature of the underside looks marvellous, making good use of two 1x2 inverted bows. My only slight issue with this model relates to the dark bluish grey 2x3 plate that serves to support the wings as this looks rather out of place to me. However, it is vital to the structure of the aircraft and ensures absolute stability so you can fly it around with ease.

Overall - 4.5 - I am very pleased with today's gift. These toys are proving to be a highlight of the calendar so far and I think this aircraft is one of the best yet.

The City calendar seems to be a lot better this year (so far) than I remember prior calendars being.

Looks like the Jungle Air Drop Helicopter minus the rotors to me. Even the color scheme (Flame yellow orange, trans blue, red).

I really enjoy the daily updates of the advent calendars - any chance of an overall pic each day too of the ‘story so far’ so we can see how they unfold in their entirety which can also be fascinating? Just a thought for something new!

Keep up the good work!
