Christmas Build-Up: Day 23

Posted by ,

Here we are: the penultimate advent day. It has been a wild ride full of weird animals and questionable, non-holiday themed models - but also some real winners. What will the last couple days bring us? Let’s hope that the 23rd (Christmas Eve Eve, as I like to call it) offers some sort of indication.

Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to worry, as this Christmas tree is a wonderful model. It has a great, striking design that I don’t think LEGO has used for a tree before, using multiple techniques to achieve the ‘bushy’ look.

I also appreciate the assortment of translucent ornaments included, with two on every side. The whole model flows rather perfectly, in my opinion. I hope you readers think so, too!

One minor quibble would be the lack of a proper star, as two trans-yellow studs top the tree instead. However, given the rebuilding nature of the set, I can’t fault that omission. It obviously wasn’t needed for any of the other models and thus would have had no business being in 40253 Christmas Build-Up. Of course, it is a common piece, so that helps too.

Overall - 5.0 - excellent! It is my favorite model so far - and I believe it will stay that way, barring any surprise tomorrow.

By in Hong Kong,

With the decorations, it's more appealling than both the City and Friends' versions. But shouldn't the top layer be rotated 45 degrees for a more tree-like appearance?

Did you replace the white 1x1 dalek brick with a brown one?

^^ Yes. I thought the white one was in another model when I photo'd a batch of them but I just didn't see it in the pile.

By in Sweden,

Soooo much better than the “Christmas tree” in the city calendar.

^^ To be fair, it looks better with a brown dalek! Nice model, only slightly let down by the white trunk bit.

I love this model too. Really well done and the colored pieces tie it all together beautifully (I’m looking at you City calendar)

Did I miss the build that used the white croissant? I actually feel like there are a few pieces this time around that either haven't been used yet or have only been used once (so far).
