Re-imagine Disney’s TRON: Legacy movie scenes with LEGO bricks!

Build Disney’s TRON: Legacy with this LEGO Ideas set, featuring 2 Light Cycles, 3 minifigures and a TRON grid/display base to recreate the movie chase scene and Identity Disc battle.

Build, play and display with this futuristic LEGO Ideas 21314 TRON: Legacy set from Disney, featuring 2 Light Cycles, each with minifigure seats and translucent-colored light-style elements, plus a divisible TRON grid with attachment points for the vehicles. Use the grid as a display base for the Light Cycles or split it in 2 to recreate the chase scene from Disney’s TRON: Legacy movie. Alternatively, stage an Identity Disc battle between the 3 included LEGO minifigures—Sam Flynn, Quorra and Rinzler—on the grid. This construction toy includes a booklet with information about its fan creator and LEGO designers, plus the lowdown on Disney’s TRON: Legacy movie and its main characters.

  • Includes 3 LEGO minifigures: Sam Flynn, Quorra and Rinzler.
  • Features 2 buildable Light Cycles for Sam Flynn and Rinzler, and a TRON grid/display base.
  • Sam Flynn’s Light Cycle features a minifigure seat, authentic features and assorted translucent-blue light-style elements, including power stream effects.
  • inzler’s Light Cycle features a minifigure seat, authentic features and assorted translucent-orange light-style elements, including power stream effects.
  • TRON grid/display base features 2 detachable parts, attachment points for the 2 Light Cycles and translucent-blue elements.
  • Divide the grid to recreate the Light Cycle chase scene from Disney’s TRON: Legacy movie, or use it to role-play the disc battle scene with the minifigures.
  • Includes Quorra’s sword.
  • Accessory elements include Sam Flynn and Quorra’s blue Identity Discs, and Rinzler’s 2 orange Identity Discs. Attached to the back of each minifigure.
  • This construction toy includes a booklet with building instructions, information about the set’s fan creator and LEGO designers, and the lowdown on Disney’s TRON: Legacy movie and its main characters.
  • Each Light Cycle measures over 1" (5cm) high, 6” (17cm) long and 1” (4cm) wide.
  • TRON grid/display base measures over 8” (22cm) wide and 3” (9cm) deep.

You can view more images on the set details page and look out for our review in a few days' time.

By in Canada,

Holy price tag! The minifigs look fantastic though. I'm curious to see what the "grid/display base" pieces look like.

Gravatar
By in United States,

^The grid/display base pieces are in the set details page.
Price is a little high for me, but I may buy on sale. It looks cool and the minifigs are fantastic.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I don't suppose those Light Cycles light up as in the picture, because description says nothing about a light brick somewhere in the bike...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great, but that price tag is ludicrous

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another must buy from the Ideas line!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks neat! Not a TRON fan, though, so it's an easy pass.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

45 CAD? Oof. Max I'd pay for this would be 30 CAD. Never seen the movie anyways, so an easy pass.

Darn Disney and its greed!

Gravatar
By in France,

Pricey. Will wait for a discount

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I love it !

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks neat. No idea what TRON is, but I might pick one up anyway.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I've thought TRON: Legacy sets would be cool ever since I saw the movie. It's like Lego made this just for me. Normally I wait for discounts but this is an instant cop. The minute I see this for sale I am grabbing it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the price tag! With a set so unique like this I was expecting Lego to have us shell out the moolah but it's much cheaper than I was expecting.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Ah, its Rinzler! Gosh, is this set overpriced!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks nice and safe with noöne in any danger of running into another rider's tiny stream...

Gravatar
By in France,

I like it. Even as an old fan of first TRON movie, this will be for sure a good display set to complete my collection. I like the color scheme, Trans-clear overall parts use and global design. But it's about 0,15€ per part so yes, you're all right, it's a bit pricey, I mean in the higher average price point. Who talked about greed? Grrrrrr...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is anybody really surprised it's $35? Lego Ideas sets are infamous for being slightly overpriced, and even then, if you look at what most $20 sets look like, I can see this being $35. Also, Lego Ideas always seems to have AMAZING quality with their line.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I am so excited for this set.

Considering that they're working with a giant corporation/license like Disney, I'm not surprised at the price point.

Now I just wish Disney would keep the Tron franchise alive...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m pleasantly surprised with this set, not a particular fan of the source material but it’s got a strong enough sci-fi vibe to get my interest. The UK price isn’t bad either considering the 3 figs, their accesories and the stand in addition to the pair of bikes.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Brilliant! I definitely hope to pick this up at some point. Reasonable price for once, too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This a must own for me, love the movie and always believed the Tron aesthetic would work well with LEGO and I wasn’t wrong. Trying to overcome some sticker shock however...yeesh LEGO...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Comparing this to the source material, I think it looks surprisingly inaccurate. The wheels are fine, but the mid-section is kind of a mess. Maybe I'll try to design my own because I really like the concept.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'ts pretty pricey but other than that I love it! The Minifigures are all fantastic, and covering both the cycle chase and disk fight is a smart move. Weird that the description lists all the features of Sam's cycle and Inzler's cycle separately despite the features and builds being practically identical (save "blue" swapped with "orange.")

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This looks awesome! I'm sure I'm gonna grab this one at some point, but I think I'll wait for it to go on sale. $45 is far too much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Having seen the 'ehh' pictures weeks ago my reaction hasn't changed at all. They don't look right. They have the feel of Tron but not the accuracy.

Also let's use some new words for the price point of the set.... ludicrous is a great one. Ridiculous is too over used. The price is preposterous, outlandish, ludicrous, farcical....

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yes! Finally!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The arm printing on Quorra's Minifigure is fantastic. Never been a big Tron fan, did like the movies, but not enough to compell me to buy merch. The set does look nice though, but I think I'll pass on this unless I can get it for 25.00 or less.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I imagine this is a nice set for existing Tron fans, but nothing particularly special to attract potential new ones. Perhaps it's my age (34) but before this set, I'd never even heard of Tron ??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's a good set but realistically it should be about £25 but looks futuristicly cool..

Gravatar
By in Germany,

DE 34.99€

Price seems ok to me, will buy it on day one.. not a too huge fan of the (new) franchise, but the old movie burnt some memories in my brain...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Never even heard of TRON, yet I'll probably still get it!

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

As usual, underprized in most countries, especially US and CAN.

Gravatar
By in United States,

People shouldn't be surprised about the price. Other than the Saturn V, which I would consider an oddity in terms of price and quality, they've always been a bit high. This is a neat set. I'm not sure if I'll pick it up, but I did enjoy Tron Legacy and these sets are great representations of them. The new Luke figure from TLJ might provide some good parts to make a Flynn character...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Anyone want to make a bet that it's the angry clone face for Rinzler's head?

Gravatar
By in France,

The more I look at the pictures of it on LEGO.com the more I like it... The Light Cycles are really good IMO. Smooth, good balance, good use of parts, and what looks to be interesting printed ones.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Comparable set in terms of pieces is Women of Nasa. That's £20 rrp.
If this had been £25, given the licensing, there shouldn't be complaints.
At £30, I fully understand them & agree

Gravatar
By in United States,

"Tron" was a film from 1982, which received a follow-up in 2010 titled "Tron: Legacy". This set depicts the Light Cycles and characters from the latter film, but which have analogues in the original.

I really wanted to like "Tron: Legacy", having grown up in the shadow of "Tron". The original was a box office bomb, but it did have a kind of cultural impact that was strong enough for Disney to decide to make a sequel. I found the sequel to be a visually stunning experience, but once again, it wasn't an amazing film. It was okay, but with some flaws; definitely not good enough to "redeem" the original's failure at the box office.

However, as with other licensed properties (I'm looking at you, Star Wars), my love for the world-building is enough to get me to buy a themed LEGO set, even if the actual films weren't great. I'm definitely getting this set as soon as I can, hopefully with a promotion from LEGO.com. I was expecting it to be $50 USD, but at $35, it's an easy choice.

Edit: Based on the numbers, it looks like the original "Tron" wasn't exactly a box office bomb, but it was definitely disappointing versus its budget. As a kid, my memory of "Tron" was that it was groundbreaking, but ultimately not exactly a masterpiece. However, it held a special place in the heart of anyone who was into computers, video games, and technology for a long time, and still does today.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Buying this immediately. The price to piece ratio may be a little off, but I don't think it's a bad price by any means. Three figs, two cycles, and a buildable base is more than I expected to get, and I can't wait til this comes out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The set looks pretty great, but that price point is a shame. It's $35 for a 230 piece set and the base for the bikes makes up around a quarter of the pieces. Take out the base and it should have been a $20 set, $25 at most. I may pick it up but I'm definitely waiting around for a decent discount. I don't see this being very successful at its current price point.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks absolutely amazing!! Just wish it included an old Jeff Bridges minifigure.

Still, it's a Day 1 purchase for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Through in pull-back motors and light bricks and its a $35 set. Pricey dust-collector otherwise...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the overall aesthetic of the set and the minifigures look great, but the price point is ridiculous. You can pick up two Speed Champion sets (which look fantastic) for $30 and get way more for your money. $35 for a 230 piece set is about $10 overpriced. I can only assume that Disney (the money-sucking evil corp that they are) jacked up the licensing fees. Since I already have almost all of the Ideas/Cuusoo sets, I will probably pick this up too, but I'll wait until it's double-points to do so.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Who priced this must had been the same person who priced sets like 60132.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yes! Will be at LEGOLAND California on April 5 with my family. Perhaps they will sell it there? Woo hoo!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If this set included a couple of light bricks, I would probably buy it.

But as is (at that price) it is an easy pass.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are nice but missing something. They just feel too simple and flat. There are some odd pieces used that feel out of place. I'd like to see more curved wedges. But what they -really- missed out on was the use of light-up elements. These -beg- for that. @speedorz4ever 's pull-back motors is also a good idea.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What a rip off for that set I want to get it but not for £30 :O

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yeah, I was hoping for light-brick features, glow in the dark graphics on the figs?
Looks cool cause of the packaging art but without lights it could look dull on display.
Don't get me wrong, it's very well designed and minifig graphics are great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Personally, I think the movies are pretty hokey (even if The Dude is in them) but I do like this set.. Price point a little less would be nice, but I'll get one anyway.. And I guess since it's an ideas set the designer will get a few bones or clams or whatever you call them..

Gravatar
By in United States,

After re-reading, it says in the description 'power stream effects'?
Is that the 'light' function?
Maybe I'll try to build up the base to puts lights. Small light box/panel?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've never seen either Tron movie but this definitely looks like an improvement over the original project to me. The vehicles look both more streamlined and less flimsy than the original proposal, and it looks like they were able to add functioning wheels instead of the rigid Technic fan housings from the original proposal.

The use of that diving/space helmet visor with the Football/Hockey helmet is also nice, especially since I've got an Alpha Team revamp going on LDD that uses that same combination (with the same black helmet, no less) for an updated Ogel (combined with a yet-to-appear black recolor of TLBM Mr. Freeze/Red Hood's shoulder armor).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great! I loved this movie. It wasn't a big hit and got pretty mixed reviews, and I'm surprised to see it the subject of a set released 8 years later, but I'll take it. Def has an Ultra Agents vibe but it's very sleek and the minifigs look great. Well done.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Usually I'm the first one to complain about price point but £30 seems pretty reasonable to me for an Ideas set, great display piece, three exclusive figures and no stickers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will definitely pick this one up but might wait on a sale. Dunno, £24.99 would have been a no brainer but it's that extra fiver on top...

Nice set though and prompted me to watch some clips of the movie to refresh my memory.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Should have been $20-$25

Gravatar
By in United States,

These look great! A little chunky, but great. The figs especially. The price, not so much.

Gravatar
By in United States,

i wonder what these would look like under a black light, especially the orange one?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Wow.. $45CDN.. that’s a hard pass.
Not a huge fan of Tron.. liked the movie when it came out, but haven’t had a desire to watch it again since then. Might have been an impulse buy though if it were $30 to $35CDN.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I get a feeling that Lego has raised it's prices in the last month's . More sets are appearing that have some higher pricepoints than before. Can someone confirm this?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

$45 for 230 pieces?! Still very nice set. Not at all for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LEGO prices have been high for awhile, so this just didn't happen this month. Also to all the Canadians, 45CAD is almost exact 35USD, so at least you aren't getting completely screwed. :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Yet another Ideas set where the original entry design looks better than the TLG version . . . That's at least two now.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

By "power stream effect", do they mean "piece of translucent blue/orange plastic at the back"?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

The price is outrageous. Two boring motorcycles, of which LEGO has loads already, especially Ninjago ones, plus some admittedly cool minifigs.
Good thing is, Ideas sets that don't sell (and like Adventure Time I am sure this won't sell over here either) get heavily discounted eventually. I got two Adventure Time sets (because of some of the cool and rare parts in them) for 50% off recently.
Usually I thought Ideas sets were quite good value for money: Saturn V, Old Fishing Store, Ship in a Bottle, Maze, Wall-E, Birds, Ecto-1. All sets with a PPP ratio below 10 cents, some of them way below that. Usually, the smaller the set, the higher the PPP ratio, but that seems to be a general rule anyway. But this set has by far the highest PPP ratio of any Ideas set yet.
TLG just doesn't learn its lesson from their declining sales numbers.

@DualBoot: you're absolutely right.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I would buy it for the Tron minifig alone. My college student son (big Tron fan) thinks it may be the coolest Lego set ever. I guess I’ll buy 2.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those who have said they’ll wait for a sale, my guess is it will sell out before it goes on sale. Has happened on a number of Ideas sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hasn't happened on an Ideas set in years now that LEGO gets their head out of their... Saturn V, Fishing Village, Women of NASA all still around. I bought the Women of NASA set for around $16, and a Beetles set for $36-$38. Almost got a Saturn V for $72 but someone beat me to it. :/

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I will be at the Dreamworld LEGO store day one no question. As a TRON fan, this is a must-buy for me even at the $50 price point here in Australia. And considering that its an Ideas set (which can be more expensive than other similar sets due to the lower production run), has a Disney license attached (which doesn't come cheap either) AND has a bunch of recolors and new prints (which probably also push the price up a bit), $50 isn't too bad.

Oh and this would have to be the first time LEGO have ever done anything Cyberpunk I believe.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this set. My brother and I are HUGE Tron fans and this set looks great. The suits are spot on to the movie. Quite frankly I am not to upset about the price, I think it is reasonable for the set size not great but reasonable.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

$50 Australian for what amounts to two oversized motorcycles, though?

I think Lego have lost their damn mind, to be honest. Between this and the absurdly-overpriced ship in a bottle? All the while, we have to listen to reports that they've made too much stock that's sitting there gathering dust and that their profits are shrinking. I can't imagine why.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Cool set but 39,99 euros in the Netherlands??? Thats almost 50 USD!
Have to wait for a better price cause this is ridiculous....

Gravatar
By in United States,

That black suited Minifigure looks like the evil robot from Pacific Rim: Uprising. Saying that now makes me want LEGO to make Pacific Rim sets...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am so sick of this ridiculous pricing. I will not buy it. Should be $19.99. Is it just me or have we seen a massive price increase in 2018's sets?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sometimes I’m ashamed to call myself an AFOL with how everyone acts. Don’t buy the set if you don’t like the price.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

^ According to their last financial report, a great many people have been doing exactly that.

What bothers me is that when the company inevitably hits a rough patch, the same people get blamed. "It's your fault for not supporting the business!" Well, yeah, because you said not to.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I saw the original TRON in its theatrical release, right around the time I got my Commodore 64 & started tinkering with BASIC. It had a major lifelong impact on my brain & left very fond memories! Finally 20 years later I got the proper light cycle re-release toys & figures from NECA and cherish them to this day. Legacy mostly disappointed me due to the lack of the nostalgia hits I desperately wanted, but it wasn't bad by itself.

The figures in this set are awesome and I want _all_ the discs. I don't yet know what I'll use them for, but I want 'em. The inclusion of two toy bikes in one toy set is a massive toy win for kids. Good job to the toy company LEGO for that decision ;) That said, I can't help but feel somewhat let down by the dramatic reduction of detail versus the BrickBros' original design. I know it's a "can't have your cake & eat it" situation, but still.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks so great! I argued back in 2010 that this should have been a whole theme for Lego to release in conjunction with the movie's release. Obviously, that didn't happen, but I am sort of glad that it is being released now thanks to IDEAS. It helps that parts and minifigure design have advanced quite a bit since 2010. Too bad there was no way to get a Kevin Flynn or CLU figure included, but the inclusion of Rinzler/TRON practically makes this an instant buy for me. I will likely even buy this in multiples to make a whole light cycle arena someday (though obviously, I will wait for that price to go down or some nice VIP promo).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not thrilled about that price tag, but it's Tron so it's easily a must buy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

If it comes with a Journey cd, I’ll buy it!!,

Gravatar
By in United States,

@jonwil: I feel like Ninjago and Nexo Knights have both had some cyberpunk subthemes—and Ultra Agents was pretty cyberpunky. Not to mention Cyberslam!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The set looks great for it's size. But the price definitely doesn't match the size and pieces by a massive margin.

I saw the original movie when I was young and have introduced my whole family to it and they love it. Sadly I'm still tempted to get this as I'm such a big TRON fan! I put my thoughts up on my blog.

But the long and the short is that price to part ratio is shocking tbh. But a cool looking set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has that helmet been used before or is it new? I thought it was galaxy squad, but I was wrong.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@monkyby87 I am a AFOL and therefore willing to pay premium for the quality. But when prices go up more quickly and you are not paying for lego but licenses than something got to give.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

This looks cool but not for me as I am no fan of it.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Didn't like Legacy but the original's a classic. Minifigs look pretty nice though with those identity discs. End of line.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I absolutely loved the Tron movie growing up, so much so I made it compulsive viewing for my boys, who like it too, despite it's dated appearance in towards HD world...
I think a lot of sets just lately have been a bit overpriced, but this set isn't too bad. That's quite a reasonable set for only £30. Plus I get the opportunity to get it signed next week.

Which brings me to an odd query...
Is it me, or does this set look a lot more like a different Ideas submission than the Brick Bros one?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

if they would include Jeff Bridges minifig then the price is justified (just barely). and the power stream design at the back looks like they stole the idea from another Idea set, and it honestly doesnt look that good (it could have been better).

All in all I'll get it when it is down 10-20% in price, being an ok Tron fan.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hard pass. No interest in tron and no interest in paying 30% over the 10-cents-per-brick formula.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Typically just buy the mini-figures from Ideas sets... but I’m a fan of the original Tron film and my GF and I love riding the Shanghai Disney Coaster, so will get 2 sets to recreate the attraction.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Needs more CGI Jeff Bridges...
On a more serious note, this set is super-cool and super-overpriced. Quorra is the coolest figure, I LOVE that arm printing, and Rinzler has a sweet helmet print.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

40 euros for 230 pieces in Belgium. No thanks, that's ridiculous, for less then twice that amount I've got Ship in a Bottle and 962 pieces ...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Most of y'all daft. W/ 3 custom minifigs, two vehicles and an interchangeable display base... me thinks $35 USD is in the ballpark.

And expect prices to go higher in 2019, after TRU is liquidated. Greatly doubt LEGO is going to get all $32M that it's owed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a TRON fan, this is a must, but it is a little pricey. I’ll wait for a discount on Amazon or something. I know it won’t happen, but it would be sick if LEGO made a separate TRON line, kind of like Minecraft.
