City Advent Calendar: Day 8

Posted by ,

Our second minifigure emerged from the 2018 LEGO City Advent Calendar on day seven and it therefore seems likely that a little model will be provided today. Hopefully this will represent an improvement over the first few gifts.

Find out after the break...

Quadcopter drones have become increasingly popular during the last few years and the LEGO City range has begun to reflect that, introducing a similar unmanned vehicle in 60124 Volcano Exploration Base from 2016. This recreational craft is considerably smaller than its predecessor but it looks magnificent, making good use of four light bluish grey steering wheels that form the rotors. They cannot rotate freely but look perfect.

A series of trans-red and trans-red green lights are situated underneath the central structure. Presumably these are intended to represent navigation lights, although you could also imagine that they are receivers for the remote control. The controller is very simple but fulfils its purpose, featuring two large buttons and a transmitter aerial.

Overall - 4.5 - This quadcopter drone looks superb and is certainly my favourite gift from the 2018 LEGO City Advent Calendar so far.

Well this seems like Lego's version of bayblades because it actually works like one

By in Sweden,

I saw the instructions, looked at the completed model and had no earthly explanation for what it was supposed to be. I wondered if the calendar had large models that were given out in sub-assemblies or something. Now that I have the explanation, yes, I can see the resemblence, but it certainly had me stumped.

This doesn't work for me, bad attempt at such a diminutive scale. Excellent parts pack though

By in France,

Good surprise today, after a bad one as the sled. The build was pleasant and final result very good. We displayed it on a trans clear bar, with the boy driving it with RC it's perfect! Very nice little drone toy. Great design. A 5 for me.

Very recognizable although it's a slight shame the rotors don't turn freely. My favorite LEGO drone so far is the one from 42081 Volvo Concept Wheel Loader ZEUX, though it's much too detailed for an Advent calendar build.

Ooh, nice! Knew what it was immediately, which is good.

I like the drone in 41352-1 The Big Race Day better. This one is too box-y in the center.

Almost looks like a flying Scooby Doo sandwich
