Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 12

Posted by ,

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendars have generally focused upon consistent subjects for several days in succession during past years. This example, on the other hand, has been jumping between films and television series on a whim.

Each gift therefore remains a complete surprise!

We are returning to Star Wars: The Clone Wars today and building a magnificent rendition of Anakin's Delta-7B Aethersprite-class Light Interceptor. 75056 Star Wars Advent Calendar from 2014 included a miniature version of the same vessel but this model is far superior, making good use of four dark bluish grey 1x2 curved slopes with diagonal edges. The craft's streamlined shape has been captured effectively and I love the consistent bands of colour.

The angular wings are slightly broader than those seen in the animated series, although it would be very difficult to create a narrower craft using the parts which are currently available. I like the white 1x1 round plate representing R2-D2 in the Astromech droid socket and the trans-black cockpit canopy looks great. Furthermore, the model is sturdily constructed so definitely qualifies as 'swooshable'!

Overall - 5.0 - This is my favourite model from the Star Wars Advent Calendar so far. It features plenty of detail and represents a perfect accompaniment for General Grievous' starfighter from day nine.

By in United Kingdom,

Looking at them all lined up on top of my monitor, I'm still seeing one pattern - since Rose, we've had build-build-minifig, so I'm guessing it's another build tomorrow and a fig on Friday. No idea if the advent calendars have always followed that pattern.

I like this model, although I wish it could have been a bit less chunky. Not sure how they'd do that at this scale. Glad to have some of those curved diagonal slopes though. Still think they'd have made the tank on day 4 look a lot better.

By in United States,

Besides how it looks, I really liked the build for today's model. The layers came together really nicely, and the final model was a lot sleeker than I expected from the instructions. Easily my second favorite so far behind Cloud City, and its nice to finally see a 5.

I thought nothing would beat Cloud City, but here you go!

By in Denmark,

Isn’t this a mini model of 75214? Haven’t seen The Clone Wars

Good to get 4 of those 1x2 curved slopes. One of my favourite new pieces that Lego has introduced in the last couple years

Halfway through, and the best models so far:
Day 1 - Luke's Landspeeder
Day 7 - Naboo N-1 Starfighter
Day 9 - Soulless One
Day 12 - Anakin's Jedi Starfighter

Honorable Mention:
Day 6 - Cloud City with Cloud Car

The pattern since Day 1 has been build-minifig-build. ;) Depends on what pattern you want to find. However, I'm sure the times they are a changin'...

By in United Kingdom,

Do the 2 robot things (not a SW expert - I have to look on here nearly everyday to see what I just built) count as minifigures? They don't have minifigure legs, or minifigure torsos or minifigure heads.

By in Ireland,

A superb design, though I had no idea what it was I had just built! Thanks for enlightening me Brickset!

@AndyWilson Yes, the robot things are counted as minifigs. If ever you should wonder how many minifigs are in a set, just click the Minifigs tab on the set's page here at Brickset.

But if anyone wishes to remain unspoiled for the remaining gifts in this advent calendar and the order in which they appear, I strongly recommend NOT clicking on the More Images tab, or looking at the listing on shop @home. LEGO spoiled it all from the jump.

“Nice new white Droid Anikan, what’s his name? R2-W2?”

Very nice representation of the model, besides the “new” white Droid. I’ve been super hiped for this one since I saw it on the front of the box. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I'm actually a bit put off by the "Roman nose" look of this starfighter. It's also the wrong generation to go up against Grievous' ship.
