Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 14

Posted by ,

LEGO has produced relatively few Star Wars Rebels sets so the emergence of a miniature Imperial Troop Transport yesterday was very welcome.

I hope another item from Star Wars Rebels will arrive today.

Weapons racks are a disappointing mainstay of almost every LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. These simple assemblies offer little play value and seem completely superfluous, particularly since minifigures generally come with their own blasters. Unfortunately, previous sets suggest that any minifigures which emerge after the weapons rack will be unarmed, hence the need for these rifles.

This model is very bland, consisting of two clips for the blaster rifles and some trans-red lights. The sand blue 2x4 wedge plate at the base is somewhat rare, appearing in fewer than ten sets, but these elements are otherwise fairly dull.

Overall - 1.5 - Weapons racks are typically extremely boring in my opinion and this is no exception.

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

No. NO. I THOUGHT THE BLASTERS BEING INCLUDED WITH THE MINIFIGURES MEANT NO WEAPON RACK THIS YEAR!

Blech.

The only, and I mean only, good thing about this weapon rack is that it means two figures should be coming that can use the rifles.

On their own they are not much, but I like to add them to existing sets such as UCS Death Star etc. Just adds a little extra detail whilst still keeping the sets official Lego builds.

Being a complete novice to Advent Calendars I welcome the guns; I suppose it will take a few years for cynicism to set in!

While this is a very disappointing gift, I am happy to get two of the long-rifle style of blaster instead of the more common variant.

Another blaster rack!?
Nevertheless, you can’t ever have enough blasters!

I'm glad I didn't get the SW advent calendar now...

At the very least these could replace studshooters in battlepacks.

The designer did the best they could do considering they might not have been able to decide what goes in the calendar.

My reaction upon opening today's door: Nooooooo!

Not true. The army builder come with those stupid stud shooters. Sometimes when I am trying to arrange a battle scene, I have to scrounge around for weapons to replace the stud shooters. The build may not be exciting but I can always use some spare blasters.

@Mara Jade's Father - I was referring to the minifigures in a Star Wars Advent Calendar. The minifigures that have been revealed so far have all come with their respective weapons but those which have yet to emerge will probably be unarmed, assuming this calendar follows the example of past sets.

On that basis, it seems likely that LEGO could include the weapons with every minifigure and omit the weapons rack in favour of something more exciting.

I actually like these weapon racks. Like the comment a few spaces up I also like to add them to larger sets, they are much more useful to me because I made stop-motion films.

I like the weapon racks. They add more minifig scale to the calendar

I’m not too upset by weapon racks like many others are. Honestly as soon as I opened today’s I was excited to see all the fuss in this article and the comments since so many people hate them. Can’t wait to see what’s tomorrow.

@Master of Lightning:
Except that any time you see a weapons rack, you know there will be minifigs coming that need those weapons. So, by the time you're done, you won't actually be ahead. And since the alternative is that they would include the weapons with the minifigs and give you one more mini model, this still doesn't net you any weapons that you would have otherwise missed. Instead it means that you get an _empty_ weapons rack in exchange for whatever else they could have included for that day instead (a mini model, a minifig, or an artillery piece like they did a couple years ago).

The weapon racks are generally designed to fit whatever the prevailing theme is at the time they appear (I remember getting one that looked like it belonged in the Ewok village), but most of them are just generic-tech like this one, which I think is partly why everyone hates them so much. The one that I actually really liked was the fireplace with two lightsabers hung like stockings on either side. It had a Christmasy feel to it, it spoke of bringing family together (even if they spent three movies trying to kill each other), and it turned the weapons into decorations rather than just accessories that need a place to be attached.

You guys have no imagination with the Weapon's Rack. You get blasters, it can be used as a charging station for droids, you can add it into your moc/mods, small diorama's, could be used as part of an engine, etc.
