Star Wars Advent Calendar: Day 24

Posted by ,

Christmas Eve has arrived, yielding our final gift from the 2018 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar. Past sets have consistently provided a seasonal minifigure or model so I am interested to learn what will arrive today.

Let's open door number 24 and find out...

Snowmen are a consistent feature of LEGO Advent Calendars, although they rarely appear in the Star Wars edition. This little model is therefore quite unusual but I think it looks good, wearing a helmet that belongs to Antoc Merrick from yesterday and features some lovely printing. Unfortunately, the designer has chosen to use the older Rebel Pilot helmet rather than the modern component from 75218 X-wing Starfighter but either design works nicely in my opinion.

Furthermore, the head is decorated with some lumps of coal which form its eyes and mouth along with a carrot for a nose. This is an unusual design feature as past LEGO snowmen have lacked printing but I think it looks brilliant, especially when viewed from the right side where the perspective of the carrot seems more realistic. Two reddish brown twigs form the arms and the snowman stands on a simple white base.

Overall - 4.0 - I like this snowman and its printed head, although a truly festive minifigure would have been even better!

75213 Star Wars Advent Calendar has now reached its end and I hope you have enjoyed our Advent Countdown articles. This set comes with an excellent selection of mini models and the minifigures are superb on the whole as most are only available in a couple of other sets. Anakin's Jedi Starfighter, the miniature Cloud City and Antoc Merrick have been particularly appealing. However, previous calendars have followed fairly consistent themes and I think that was missing from this set, which leaped between different planets and movies at random.

Thanks for writing and posting each day! I'm a Star Wars fan but I didn't get the calendar so it's been fun to see the builds and get your analysis, as well as to read people's reactions. I learned a lot actually:) Have a lovely Christmas!

That snowman head is actually pretty cool!

(Pun intended)
Might have to bricklink that. There are so few minifigures with actual noses printed on them.

Now someone will have to count them.

I miss Santas! In future years, I'm hoping for Santa Ren, Santa Phasma, Greivous with red and green sabers, and maybe Qira as the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Snoke of Christmas Future.

Pretty sad. I got another Arrowhead today. Now I have 2.. And no snowman

"Unfortunately they used the old helmet?" Disagreed. Those old style helmets are perfect, the new ones from the X-wing are oversized and awkward. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Thanks again Rex for the reviews! I'd have to say the micro-Cloud City was my favorite this year. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

By in Ireland,

This is the first Advent calendar that I have had the pleasure of assembling and I must say the quality of both the minifigs and the models have been astounding. I wish to thank CapnRex101 for his daily updates especially for the days I had no idea what it was I had just built!
Happy Christmas to everyone reading this and I hope all your presents tomorrow have that distinctive rattle before you unwrap them!

I loved them all. I Enjoyed opening each one and I personally was hardly disappointed, even with the gun rack. Honestly the moisture vaporizer isn’t as bad or annoying as it seemed before and it adds a nice festive touch. I only have one problem with this calendar, and all others, the box art sure spoils a lot of the models you are going to open which a find a bit disappointing.

I wish they had used the new helm, or at least printed a visor for Merrick. I am still glad to have the figure, though, and I think this year's advent was better than last year's.

Also glad they used the old helmet....I hope the ones in the X-Wing were one-offs as I find them terribly designed...

I liked the variety present in this calendar! "Random" isn't a bad thing.

I think this is a really great figure/model but should have been Day 23. To understand why just read my post from yesterday:

The BB-8 last year was a huge let down and for some reason the trend has continued into 2018. It really needs to return because at the moment these calendars are just a collection of rare figures which could be opened any time of year.

This particular calendar has been absolutely awesome but will always have something missing. I think they should have not included that freemaker adventures ship and replaced it with a festive figure which would occupy day 24.

The ones that I always like to use as examples are Santa Kylo Ren and Christmas Tree General Grievous.

I always found it odd that they didn't print a visor on one side of the head only for pilots. Best of both worlds.

By in Netherlands,

Overall I've been pretty pleased. My favourites were the Merrick, Guavian Death Squad and Death Trooper minifigs, Cloud City, Luke's Speeder bike and Anakin's Starfighter. Wasn't impressed with Rose Tyco due to it being a double from the Resistance Pod set even though it is a nice figure, and the droid being the plain old I already have 5 million of these variety. We'll just ignore the stud shooter and weapon rack because they're unavoidable.

I will echo other's comments to say I disagree about the helmet. I am quite glad that they used the older, accurate, mold for this.

Pathetic ending; that helmet is most likely not a design choice, but rather LEGO skiping out on the more expensive new piece. God forbid these calendars have anything but the highest possible profit margin, right?!

The lack of a festive and exclusive minifigure here is befuddling, honestly, and I can imagine many children will have been disappointed on this final day (although I assume they had the surprise spoiled already). Besides this, there has been a clear reliance on Disney-made content, which is rather disappointing. Merrick and Rose Tico, really? Throw in the Freemaker and you have a set that has little appeal to collectors. Only real highlight was the very original miniature Cloud City and Twin Pod Cloud Car.

For myself as an OT era (+RO and Rebels) fanboy this was the worst SW advent calendar yet. Nevertheless there were some fun builds and this set gave me something to look forward to for the last 24 days. Highlights for me were the Landspeeder, Y-Wing, Cloud City builds, and Merrick + his helmet. Thankfully I picked this set up for 40% off just in time for Day-1. Fingers crossed for a Lego SW 20th anniversary edition next year.

These calendars aren't made for collectors. They're for kids. Never forget that.

I don't like all the builds, but I'm just one shopper.

Thanks for all of the reviews and explainers. Our first ever Lego advent calendar and we loved it. I thought it was incredible value for all of these mini sets and figures. Stand outs for me were Cloud City, Luke's Speeder, Death Trooper, IG-88 and the Imperial Walker. We'd never tried building mini scale ships before so it has been an inspiration. We just built our own custom mini-sandcrawler. Thanks again!

I liked the calendar a lot. I really missed Antoc Merrick in the regular sets. The Deathtrooper and the Guavian were fine troop builders. The snow man head will come in handy anytime soon... Two or three of the builds were rather fine. So that's as good as it can be with one of these calendars. Take a look at the city or friends calendar. It could have been a much worse SW calendar!

A sad end to an otherwise good calendar. First one to lack a Christmas themed character figure.

By in United Kingdom,

Very glad they kept the old helmet design. Hate the new one. Also appreciate getting the printed snowman head

Thank you for the Advent Calendar countdown CapnRex101, I enjoyed every day of it.

By in United States,

Its a little odd, since it isn't super star warsy (once you take the helmet off, its just a regular snowman), but the printed head is nice.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this year. My favorite models were Cloud City, TIE Fighter, and Anakin's Jedi Starfighter (oddly enough, every 6th day except today), with an honorable mention to the Imperial Troop Transport because that was fun to hold in my hand.

I actually liked the lack of an overall theme, since it lead to some nice variety and sense of surprise each day. Thanks for going through all of these daily! There were a few that I couldn't identify, so I always came here to find out exactly what it was. Happy Holidays, everyone!

I will be very surprised if that head printing doesn't get used for future Advent Calendar snowmen.

By in United States,

I miss the days of Santa Star Wars characters. Some of my favorite minifigs are the Santa ones from the old Star Wars advent calendars. The highlight for this year's calendar to me was Antoc Merrick.

By in Australia,

Many people hated on this calendar but after looking at everything in front of me, I think it was actually pretty decent. Cheers everyone!
