Gaffe on Steamboat Willie box
Posted by Huw,
LEGO has made a bit of a gaffe on the box of 21317 Steamboat Willie where the Ideas set sequence number is shown. It's the 25th, not the 24th! The 24th was 21316 The Flintstones, released last month.
Perhaps the decision on whether 21316 The Flintstones or 21317 Steamboat Willie would be released first was made late in the day and by that time it was too late to change the box. Whatever, it's a bit embarrassing...
Thanks to retrieverfalcon and lusci for pointing this out.
Update: TheBrickFan has reported a statement from LEGO about the issue: "Due to our excitement to get the Steamboat Willie set into the hands of LEGO fans around the world as quick as possible, an error was made on the packaging relating to the sequential set number. It was mistakenly printed as #24 and it should have been #25. This will be corrected in future sets."

Thanks a lot!
Extortionate perhaps, but intentional, so not a gaffe.
First they jack up the price, and then they screw up the set number? Hmm...
Is Lego on something?
When you try your best but you don't succeed...
Yikes!
Product recall!! ;-)
@CCC
The Steamboat Willie set isn't nearly as overpriced as the Toy Story 4 sets IMO.
Yeah, I think Lego really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on this one.
Top 10 LEGO Set Errors And Mistakes Part 2!! just2good?
This will be mentioned if just2good makes a part two to the 2016 video
Who else thinks this?
Email from Ideas continues the mix up:
Introducing LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie
Hoot Hoot!! It's with huge delight we're able to reveal the first official images of everyone's favourite modern stone age family made entirely of LEGO elements.
Please welcome LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie coming to LEGO stores on the 1st of April, 2019.
^ yep Ottox, that confused me as well - the marketing guys at Lego are obviously so young that they think Mickey is stone age just like the flintstones......
^ I think LEGO has had some minor production and publishing errors, but im sure these will be resolved or maybe this set is a April Fools joke with some people getting the set to make it look legit but I doubt its that.
^ Ottox and jdm, was just about to comment the same thing... talk about rushed!!
On a $90 set that I wont buy it is a huge mistake, I am aiming for Chemical Plant if it releases and the sweet Temple you showed last time.
"Sheild eyes from light"
What is ‘gaffe’?
^ Exactly pirro, as the tile in Back To The Future! ;-)
@dutchlegofan50 embarrasing error
Perhaps the numbering "error" is intentional. Perhaps it's a way to make this set collectable. Perhaps they'll sell a few sets that way. Perhaps it's not been a monumentally bad call to turn this into an actual product. Perhaps it won't be another 40%-off-from-Day-1 fiasco like Adventure Time. Perhaps....
Looks to me that retrieverfalcon was first to point this out in the reveal post: https://brickset.com/article/42666/steamboat-willie-revealed!
Credit where credit is due.
Well, I *was* going to buy 100 of these, but not now ;)
I wonder if they will make a second batch of sets but with this error fixed, similar to the, as @pirro mentioned, “Sheild eyes from light” error in the Lego Delorian Time Machine, and the new figure in the Resistance Bomber set.
Yikes (me when i see price per piece
Next week on eBay...
"EXCLUSIVE!!! LEGO 21317 STEAMBOAT WILLIE W/ 24 PRINTING ERROR!!! STARTING BID $160 TODAY ONLY!!!"
Oh now I need to buy. The second wave will fix it. Maybe I can get a 24 one, sell it for $180 and then buy a 25 one for technically free.
It was retrieverfalcon who noticed this first (see comments...)
When I first saw the set I thought £59.99, will wait and see if it goes on amazon.
Maybe they realized their error when it was too late, and jacked up the price to distract us? ;)
What is right is right. Great retrieverfalcon who noticed the mistake with me!
@Octopus.Boy The Ultra Dragon didn't say what season it is from because it was in multiple seasons. It debued in season 1 but was also in season 2.
They know all the OCD people will need 2 now.
Good sales boost, on such an overpriced set.
The error box print will no doubt skyrocket in price on the second hand market...
ROFL.
I thought it was embarrasing enough when I got the mail where they mixed up this and the Flintstones.
Of course, wasn't "Hoot, hoot" what Fred always yelled? :-P
In the end does it matter? It’s not going to make it more valuable to have a error box.? Like a error on currency or collectibles.
It's "Artic" Batman all over again.
Another error I found was in a weekly email from LEGO Ideas which announced the new set and showcased a few projects. The announcement said, and I quote:
"Hoot Hoot!! It's with huge delight we're able to reveal the first official images of everyone's favourite modern stone age family made entirely of LEGO elements."
So does that latest LEGO announcement mean that only review sets will be mislabeled?
Then reviewers could very well have a most valuable set as deemed by some LEGO collectors / investors ... or do such sets absolutely need to be MISB to hold any value?
Like who can't count at LEGO!
It's a good thing. Get this misnumbered set, wait til new corrected number comes out, sell this one to the completists, and pays for the new correct set.
I guess they fired girl that was responsible for that.
hmmm... Set 24 & 25 - both sets Steamboat Willie unopened in box, wait a year: starting price = MSRP, reserve = $200, if winning bid = $500+, Flintstones gets added as a FREE bonus - eBay here we come!
