i did think that at 1st but then i remember that it's only NEWS item that are Posted in the Morning of 1st of april that count. as we not in april yet. it dont count.

I really wanted the 156 piece set that was submitted to Ideas. This has 5 times as many pieces, and an inflated price tag (compared to other sets) to boot. Seems like the trend now at Ideas is to take the submitted idea and just run with it, rather than making the set that people voted for.

I really thought this would be cheaper. Guess I’ll wait for a sale yet again. It does look like a cool set and it’s interesting that they’re introducing new molds in an Ideas set.

Honestly, I think that Lego was already planning to release a set based on Steamboat Willie since the past year, the fact that somebody made an idea based on it was just coincidence. That would explain why it was approved, why the teaser was released in less than a month after the idea was announced as winner and why the set is already released. That's it.

Judging by 95% of the comments this will hang around the shelves of Smyths for longer than the big bang theory set (assuming they stock it as they have most ideas and creator expert sets). So if you want it, but don't like the price, just wait for a 20% off deal at Smyths.

I was super excited to get this until I saw the price... I'll wait for a sale. :/

This does seem rather expensive for what you’re getting. Which is a shame, as I think a lot of people here would buy this at a bit of a cheaper price.

I see people mentioning new molds not being allowed in an ideas set - I always thought your original submission had to obvs be made from existing parts, but if during development the lego designers wanted to push through a new mold, or maybe use a brand new part from a still to be released set then that was OK.

Everyone be freaking out about the price, I'm trying to figure out where they got to 751 pieces from.

I'm with most others here. Way too expensive. It's a steamboat not a ship.

I definitely want this but agree that $90 is way too high based on what you get. I would have guessed $70. I'll likely hold out for a while and see if it shows up on Amazon for 20% off like some other Ideas sets have. $72 would be much more palatable and much closer where it should be in the first place.

This thing looks awesome... for maybe $50 or $60 at most. $90 is so much it’s honestly a joke.

It's a licensed set so yeah, Disney tax... but wow, I would expect $90 or $100 for that--Where'd the 20% beyond that come from??

I'll add another voice to the chorus.. the set was actually very much growing on me, but then I saw the price. I'll wait for it to be on sale somewhere. Such a shame!

Seems everyone has said this, but wow. How expensive?! I honestly thought based on the original idea that it would be £40-50. Id of brought it for that price, more so from a collection point of view than actually really liking it. But £80?!! No chance.

This is to everyone who is commenting on the new molds - look at the original submission. There are NO NEW MOLDS. Lego is free to use new molds on the final product, and has done so with several of the ideas sets.

Now if somebody can explain how they got around the licensing issue, let me know.

I believe the "new molds" everyone is reffering to are the hats that Mickey and Minnie have.

I heard that they were ok with the submission even though the license was in use due to the fact that it was submitted prior to the implementation of the rule that current licenses are not allowed. Still very strange, though.

Yeah, the Disney Tax is way too high on this one. That being said, at least the price here in Norway isn't that bad - 900 kr is actually pretty close to 90 euro, nowadays that price would usually translate to 1100 kr. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't include more figures (Pete, the cow and the goat), but if it's true that there are leaked pics of a goat around, maybe that means we'd get Pete and the goat as part of the Disney CMF series?

On the positive side this set DOES have many of the features I'd hoped for (a bigger boat, moving paddles and chimneys, and B/W artwork), so even while I generally avoid Disney licenses I'll probably buy it.

@ggfile The idea was submitted before Lego imposed more stringent rules, as Robot99 mentioned.
It would seem unfair to change the rules during the game, so that does make sense, to me at least.

The set looks delightful; the price not so much.

Definitely something I won't buy without a really good GWP or double points. Still, one or the other should be coming up soon....

Yeah, I don't get how so many people seem to be missing that bit. These two hats have very limited usefulness. They won't work with standard minifigs at all, and while Minnie's hat might show up someday in the Friends theme, Mickey's hat looks like a one-and-done for sure. Ideas sets don't generally show up at regular retail (at least not in the US), so the sales numbers will be considerably lower than they would be for a similarly sized set of any popular theme. And this one set has to completely offset the cost of those two molds unless they already have a plan to reuse them.

the boat is really - when you look at in - "nothing special".. it is nice, thats truth.. but really nothing like exceptional, one of a kind etc..

as for the minifigs .. when you look a little bit further apart, there is really NOTHING LEGO-like about them. except the legs that fit into the the base plates.. ihese figs could be easily made by any other toymaker and EXCEPT the legs fitting into the studs on the base plates / bricks .. you might not see the difference..

so what is this? Evolution or Revolution? or just some sad Degression? We (as LEGO) make EVERYTHING to fit the studs.. ? whatever the costs?

I hate this set. personally. And I hate that the original creator wouldnt get such revenues as he/she expected.

I keep saying this over and over again... The price point for this is around 70€/$/whatever. So they price it higher, high enough that a common 20% discount will reach their price point. Otherwise, they would sell it for 50-60€.
People will still buy it at 90, and most that want it but complain about the price will be happy to buy at 70. And LEGO will laugh, call us fools and keep on doing this.
Since last year that this is clearly their price policy.

I'm quite (pleasantly) surprised that there is no €10 Benelux tax on this one: the Flintstones set is €5 more expensive than in our neighbouring countries… But still, €90 for this is a bit steep… Yet, I'll buy it at some point if there's an incentive like a nice GWP or double VIP points…

If you look at the lower right corner you can see the number 24, but it’s supposed to be 25. Because the flintstones set (21316) already uses the number 24. It’s a serious quality control error!

The new mold that you mentioned was introduced by LEGO, and not the original creator of the set. That is my point. That the no new molds rule is on the submission, and this rule was not broken, and that LEGO is free to introduce new molds in the final product - as is the case of the new mickey hat. In the original submission, Micky is NOT wearing that hat!

Easy pass. I didn't expect this to be more expensive than the Pop-Up Book. Even at 69.99€ it wouldn't have been that good of a deal.

The official release looks like minor upgrades to that set, about what I would have expected if that one had been approved.

Maybe TLG started working on a Steamboat Willie set back in 2017 when that submission failed to get any traction, and decided to link to the one that got 10K votes to avoid a rehash of the Ghostbusters HQ ruckus.

@datsunrobbie Yes, indeed! Good you're pointing this out. Strange that there isn't any (or much) mention of this.

And the 90 $/€ price tag must come from one of the comments in this Ideas submission, which idea may have been brought to attention to Lego again by someone commenting next, whose idea was approved shortly after. Or maybe that's all just coincidence.

I wonder of the silver coloring on these minifigs is real silver leaf, which accounts for the higher price point. The upcoming CMF versions don't have this.

The "no new molds" rule is imposed on Ideas submissions because it's also imposed on the Ideas team. They're stuck working with what's available at the time. And technically they don't appear to have broken that rule after all, as the Disney 2 CMF series has just been unveiled and features non-silvered versions of the same two minifigs sporting the same two hat molds. The CMF team is absolutely allowed to toss new molds around as much as they want.
