Captain Marvel SDCC exclusive revealed!
Posted by CapnRex101,
Yahoo! has announced the first exclusive product for San Diego Comic-Con 2019. 77902 Captain Marvel and the Asis will be available for lottery winners to purchase during the convention, costing $45.00.
This set comes with an exclusive Captain Marvel minifigure, wearing her Starforce uniform, alongside Maria Rambeau and Goose in his Flerken form.
Unfortunately, this set is not covered by LEGO's assurance that regional exclusives would be made available around the world as Comic-Con items are excluded.
Will you be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year and what do you think of this exclusive set? Let us know in the comments.

I absolutely need to Bricklink Goose.
Flerkin Hell!
What a shame we won't see this released normally.
Cool! Can’t get it :/ oh well
Incoming outrage in 3 .. 2 .. 1!
I know why these limited sets get done this way, I do get it...I’ll always be bummed that I miss out. Cool looking set, very MOC-y.
You asked us to loose the negativity, so I'll just say that I wholeheartedly feel positive feelings towards a decision to make sets available broadly for all to enjoy should they find the design and theme of said sets to their likeness, at a reasonable price which still profits the company. Box art could be different for special events as an added value.
A neat little set. I feel as though the comic-con sets are one of the main reasons people were upset over exclusive offerings, so them being excluded is still a disappointment. But it's a really cool little diorama set.
Let's watch; LEGO has released the instructions for the last few SDCC sets, and there were few-to-no exclusive pieces. Hopefully they'll do the same this year, because I'd really like to build a copy of this...
....
@elangab - nice one.
@Classicsmiley - The only exclusive piece I can make out is Carol's Kree Starforce Uniform Torso.
abolishconventionexclusives
Now this pisses me off. Lego has been doing a FANTASTIC job in recent years of making SDCC exclusive figures and sets that are desirable but not so desirable that I’m upset about not being able to own them. But this set would be so amazing to purchase on its own. A Kree suit Carol, Flerken Goose, and Maria Rambeau?? I think that much exclusivity is ridiculous as at least previous exclusive sets didn’t really have exclusive figures. I’ll try to get this secondhand but I really don’t want to pay $200 for it.
Not interesting looking and overpriced.
It looks like the kind of ship I'd have made out of my space Legos back in the '80s when I was 12.
If the Starforce suit colors were accurate, I’d be more upset. As it stands, this is a set I’m fine with missing out on.
They probably should just stop with the Con exclusives. I'm not sure what Lego gets out of them except a BUNCH of scorn.
Why are there technic pins on some power bursts?
This is most decent SDCC exclusive Marvel licensed LEGO set in recent years! I want one for myself!
Ah, the pain of being an avid collector... Convention exclusives make a lot more sense to me than region exclusives, since they're meant to be a nice souvenir for people who go to these events. That being said, this is a very nice display piece I would have gladly purchased if it had been more widely available.
This set is awesome! And also extremely frustrating that it's an exclusive. :-(
This set is so cool! The figures are great, I love the Maria and the Captain Marvel looks great. Goose really takes the cake though. The ship build is fantastic, I love this set. I’m just so disappointed that it’s an exclusive set. I really, really, really want to get it. Please make this more available LEGO.
So in other words, it will be 500 bucks on ebay.
Hard pass.
does anyone know what asis is/means?
Easy pass for me. The movie wasn’t that good and her character honestly just bothered me because of how arrogant she was. As a result of that the set really doesn’t interest me at all.
I like it. Let's hope against better judgement that these end up with collectors rather than resellers.
@BearsyWearsy the technic pins are probably for attaching to the jet build to simulate exhaust.
Wish this was more than just a convention exclusive as I'm now going to have to pay $200 to get it off of some scalper.
Apart from the fact that I don't give a toss about Marvel or DC, I see no problem whatsoever with LEGO releasing exclusive set whenever and wherever they please.
The only reason people ask silly money for these exclusives is that there are other people who are willing to hand over that sort of money.
I'm no Rolling Stones fan either but they neatly summed it up 50 years ago:
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need
These Con exclusives don’t bother me at all because even the people in attendance have to enter a lottery, so there is no guarantee. It would be a nice accommodation, though, if LEGO would consider reserving some small number of exclusives for a lottery among all VIPs, or VIPs who previously purchased a Marvel set in the past year. (I recognize this last condition may also be too complicated.). If they did this additional lottery, there would still be some minuscule chance for others, while much better odds would remain for attendees. Additionally, I think it could generate great fan interest. And if they leave the program as is, that would be fine, too.
Gonna eBay it for sure.
That’s how I picked up Aquaman’s set, Ultron’s set, and Rocket’s set. None of the other sets have been IMO unique enough to pick up; the Ant-Man bust with Wasp mini-fig - for example - is nice for display, but doesn’t really offer any playability.
Now, if I could only hit the lottery so I could afford those exclusive minifigs...
It will be available for everyone - @ $1000 on Bricklink...
I really wish exclusive sets weren't so exclusive.
In a perfect world, the only exclusive parts of a set like this would be the box, and maybe a printed "SDCC" element that is not integral to the model. Maybe even a signature by the set designer would be cool.
But no exclusive minifigures or parts in exclusive new colours. Even an exclusive sticker sheet might be passable, though I'd start to get a bit frustrated there.
The Star Wars dioramas of past cons were great! Nothing too impossible to build with your own bricks. Basically Just exclusive packaging.
I'm not a massive Captain Marvel fan, but if they did something like this with classic Ghostbusters or something I am a huge fan of, I'd be incredibly frustrated.
Nobody wants to have to resort to the secondhand market and pay exorbitant prices.
I get that it's a toy and that I may sound privileged. But it'd be nice to be able to purchase the things I'm interested in. I want to give the LEGO Group my hard earned money. Please let me!
Thankfully I am not the least bit interested in Superhero exclusive sets, plus this looks like a 25 Dollar/Euro set, so the suggested price of 45 Dollars looks totally ridiculous. I feel sorry for people who are such obsessive completionists that they feel they have to spend ludicrous amounts of money on the aftermarket for such a boring set.
I saw this on Instagram and thought it was a wind up, the box art is well below par considering last years similar Marvel, DC, Star Wars sets..
I’ll still get it though.. as once you collect SDCC sets, you cannot miss any out.. sad really..
I honestly love this build, the whole vignette style display on a 10x10 base just looks super dynamic and exciting. It's extremely savage that Lego is putting not one but TWO exclusive minifigures into this Comic-con build now. I don't believe any of the previous builds had exclusive figures... I guess last year's Aquaman was "exclusive" but I wouldn't consider a hair piece swap that exclusive, and Rocket with the Ravagers suit was eventually released in a polybag. Still, LOVE the build and I can't wait to check out the instructions. I won't be paying after market prices for this one but if my friend wins this in the lottery I don't mind paying her back for getting me one.
To me, these 'technic pins' look like 1x1 trans-blue round tiles.
Not my theme, so not an issue as to getting it. But still an issue as to - Lego: "we won't do exclusives anymore except for the exclusives that we will continue doing."
It's a pretty good set. A pity it's an exclusive, since I think it looks much better than the official Captain Marvel set we got earlier, but oh well, I'll live without it.
I was hoping lego would release Carol in the green star force outfit as a polybag then make a Minerva figure aswell, but I must say this is cool
If I had a captain marvel minifigure I'd change her wig to 30399 in medium dark flesh..
The only interesting part is that they use Octan colors on the barrel in a licensed theme.
Luckily, I'm.not a fan of this, because no way ill ever get it
I’ve been able to pick up my three SDCC sets for about $200 or less, apiece.
That’s actually relatively cheap considering I’m not paying for airfare, hotel, food, tips, taxi or rental car, and event tickets. In addition, I only have to win a bid, not enter whatever drawing they hold to determine who gets to buy an exclusive set.
Boo on SDCC exclusives!
Humm... I like this set, it creates a nice diorama, also good figures included! That jet throw me a few years back, I think there was a classic town set jet fighter with a similar design, pulled by a truck! I might bricklink it, hope the instructions may become available! Very collectable box as well!
Maria and Goose were the best parts of the movie... aaaand they're both exclusive.
I'm sorry, but does anyone else think it's unfair that you can only get these sets:
1) If you live in San Diego?
2) If you can afford airfare to San Diego?
3) If you're willing to pay a ridiculously high price on the secondary market?
There are many other AFOLs out here that don't, or can't, meet any of the above requirements.
Sorry Lego, but you should at least offer them to VIP members. Not fair!
Probably next up, a SDCC Exclusive Stranger Things set... :(
@saturncoupe1999
Not unfair in any shape or form.
You don't have to live in San Diego to go to SDCC. All over the world attend SDCC.
Just have to get those tickets early. That's the main issue. But if you're a regular attendee year after year, everyone knows the drill.
I went for over 10 years straight. Budget for it each year. Had a blast with the family.
Some airfare is cheaper than others. Have to look around for the best deals. Be diligent and thorough.
Secondary market is, what it is. If someone is willing to pay more, then what can you do.
If you can't meet the 'above requirements' like you say, then again...what can you do.
Bricklink the parts, and/or save up for the exclusives you want or save and budget to go to San Diego Con next year, and so on and so on.
Lego gives alot of stuff w/purchase throughout the year.
Don't worry, everything's gonna' be alright. There there ;)
This is borderline unacceptable from LEGO - Con exclusives need to stop like right away. They can fix millions of angry fans by ending this now and making the set a GWP.
Well, for every shitstorm on a new D2C-set Lego puts an extra exclusive minifig in a SDCC-set to annoy Afols. :D Too farfetched? Maybe...
It'd be a shame if Maria was only in this set.
It's a nice set but it'd be nice to see it released outside of just one country, even if it were at another Con
Wake me up when it’s available more widely.
I guess I’ll be sleeping a while...
This is the best SDCC exclusive set released for quite some time IMO. Very cool! On my bucket list to attend SDCC one of these years.
"Will you be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year and what do you think of this exclusive set? Let us know in the comments."
Unfortunately I live 10k miles away - bummer!
It's a lovely set and I would really like to purchase it, but I'm afraid I won't be able to, given the exclusivity.
And - yes - I sense there's something wrong with all this, but I really can't pinpoint it...
A great set from a boring origin story, to this day Marvel hasn't made clear what happened to Goose and Maria Rambeau in the current MCU.
Well, that's disappointing. Absolutely awesome set from one of my very favourite MCU films, and it's an SDCC exclusive that I won't be going to 'cause I'm Canadian and poor.
I may be the only one, but I would not be disappointed if Brickset quit doing reviews on sets that are not available to the general public.
I just want the building instructions for the flurken.
@mkrey. You don't need them. Just build a little base and a lot of tentacles. Flerken MOC!
^ I'd like the instructions for the jet as well, but the flurken seems quite easy to build using pieces from a reasonable Lego collection, and is much the most interesting part of the set!
Funny how once they release an exclusive set in a non-western country/region, after all whining from those westerns, TLG decide to release those exclusive for western costumers as well.
However, once there is exclusives sets in a main western country/region: "yeah, sorry folks from Asia/Pacific/Oceania, it is an exclusive, we can't do anything about it..."
Next time (and IF) TLG release any exclusive set for Asia/Pacific countries, please those in USA, don't complain and stop the whining.
Hope someone shares the instructions for the rest of us thanks.
Here's my best guess on how to build that Flerken:
https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/07vNkk43aAm
Haven't watched Captain Marvel... is this some sort of spoiler?
Meh, whatever the case it's a cool ship that might not be that hard to source for whoever wants it (myself included... if only), but of course y'all care about the exclusive minigals. Fair, that's what they intended after all...
I really just need the instructions for the flerken’s mouth and I’ll Bricklink the pieces. They can keep everything else.
Seeing this unobtainable set is actually inspiring me to do some MOCing. So, I guess, thanks, LEGO...?
@Samie
Ok, I'll bite: this is not in any way comparable to a regional exclusive; this is only available at 1 event, and only to some of the people at that event. People in "Western" countries have no more chance of buying this set than you do.
Incidentally, if you're in Japan, San Diego is 'Eastern'.
On second thought, this looks like a $15 Creator set with some minifigs thrown in and a needless $30 price increase. This makes the Jurassic Park set look like a good deal. So I guess that's something.
Looks pretty easy to MOC if you MUST have it. Small, simple, no exclusive parts or colors except for Captain Marvel's torso. The other torso looks like it came from a TLJ Resistance aviator.
Does goose have a normal head? Also are the parts to Maria Rambeau exclusive to her figure?
For the peeps that want to build the Flerken. From

I was re-watching "Captain Marvel" the other night and one of my thoughts was my disappointment we'd likely never see a Starforce Carol minifigure... which makes this, let's say, an incredibly mixed blessing for me. I loved that costume, and I'd love the minifig. I could try to bricklink the torso or something I guess but I imagine it'd be more trouble than it's worth. Monica Rambeau is another mixed blessing. Goose is something I can handle because it looks easy to make with normal parts, but minifigure prints are not something you can replicate.
The ship looks cool enough too and I'd probably have bought it sooner than the Quadjet if it was a general retail item, but the possibility to bricklink it if I wanted to (and I don't think I would) makes me feel less like I'm losing anything. I am not opposed to Comic Con exclusive sets and builds; I think the Aquaman set was adorable and managed to offer something that might not work at general retail and felt exclusive without feeling impossible to figure out. The minifigure there was something that could be assembled from existing parts. The microscale Star Wars sets have been pretty fine for this niche. Rocket in a special spaceship was a reasonable choice.
A special build can be replicated by an experienced brick fan but is still unique for a purchaser, but minifigures can't be replicated. I think the builds are the ideal path forward for convention exclusives.
Dang; I saw the preview image and thought "That looks like an awesome model with two cool figs, I should pick that up" and then scrolled down and saw it was SDCC. I'm disappointed, yes, but I'm sure lots of folks there will appreciate this.
This is heartbreaking; what a cool set as a huge lego marvel fan and captain marvel fan, i am sure there are thousands of us out there who'd love this set as a free with purchase on shop at home, instead of the hateful con lottery draws soon-to-be flipped on fleabay for hundreds of dollars....I truly despise the con exclusives - bc they're not universally available to all comic cons. there are NO exclusives to Chicago for instance. Y does Lego do this each year to its marvel/dc fans who don't have the wherewithal to go to sdcc for the miniscule chance of scoring and fueling the fleabay scalpers?!?!
Honestly, I'm incredibly disappointed. It's nice to have exclusives for special events but they keep making characters or sets for SDCC that are maybe too mainstream in interest? Deadpool the Duck seemed perfect since it was gloriously obscure, but this is...oh man.
I hate to put a downer on what looks like a great set, but I feel pretty sad I'm not going to be able to get this. I'm a big Captain Marvel fan, I've been making a LEGO Kree army for the past year now, and had my fingers crossed they'd make one of the Starforce suits.
I know I'm not entitled to anything, and I don't think that's even how I feel. Being in the UK and other personal circumstances make it almost impossible for me to even think about attending something like SDCC, and I could never justify it just to buy a set. Same goes for the after-market: I have car payments to make, furniture to buy, etc.
I know some people will be actively angry about this. I don't want to tell you how to feel, but getting angry over this somehow seems strange? But I can't help being disappointed, and because of the things LEGO chooses to make each time (Falcon-Cap, the Collector, Spider Woman) I seem to end up with this feeling every year.
@huw:no I'm not attending the SDCC and I like parts of the design and mostly that Maria minifig - BUT definitely not the price! That is 16,6c per piece!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!
Do u remember the "why all the negtivity" article from last week? That's why! A handful of pieces together with some popular characters (poorly executed with no leg-printing!!!) that make an hellishly overpriced item that is available in some kind of "maybe u are the lucky one to pay a ridiculous price"oh-so-funny-lottey-situation for the fewest of the few.
This is a company that totally goes berzerk and gives a s*** on loyal customers and fans. They are only in for the show! Their show of annual "scalper-feeding" - because the addicted ones are willing to pay any price! We had this years before. LEGO is not smart enough to make those available after the conventions - just wrapped up in a different packaging, so the "convention-packs" stay exclusive.
Obviously making money might not be their primary intent. Because reflecting the reactions here on brickset alone, I strongly believe, that a lot of us would buy it in a day-one-purchase-way. Even for that ridiculous price!
I. NEED.
I genuinely thought that all the thin-skinned blokes who couldn't stand the existence of a female lead had disappeared back into their caves.
Shame they're still going.
(Thread closed in 5... 4... 3.......)
Funny how the negativity question is discussed and then LEGO does this again.
The set looks decent enough, but I don't NEED it. I would like to say I NEED the figure, just since I'm a collector. But I won't pay those aftermarket prices for any set/figure. I'll learn to live without it before I give a reseller that much extra money. A little profit I can understand. A ridiculous mark-up? I think not...
With that said, Goose and the flerkin thing looks similar to the abilisk from Guardians. so if you have that set, maybe you can build this? (I don't own that set and I haven't seen this movie yet either).
Even with the exclusivitiy, I don't expect this figure to go above Harley from Apocolypseburg set. That is beyond ridiculous (and I desperately want that figure, but never at the price bricklink is asking).
@bananaworld
Yeah, I think Brie was quoted like I don't want any man even looking at the new SDCC set. Just a quick glance, get a sense of the set and look away. Don't talk about the set or even buy it. Don't be crazy enough to even think about building it.
Looking at it is like looking at the sun. You don't stare at it. It's too risky. You get a sense of it and then you look away.
I'm gonna' try to have my wife get it and I'll peek through the door while she builds it. Just don't tell Brie ;)
@Phathead, you continue to show your ignorance and act as though you somehow understand Lego marketing better than the people that actually work in the company and have the years of data to back up their decisions. Why is their marketing bad? People, including you, still buy their sets. You're still interested in Lego. You may come and moan and groan about this like everyone else, but you're not going to stop buying Lego because of this one thing. If you really don't like what Lego is doing, then vote with your money. Not everyone cares about these SDCC sets, so to them Lego has done absolutely nothing wrong.
@Sethro3: "With that said, Goose and the flerkin thing looks similar to the abilisk from Guardians. so if you have that set, maybe you can build this? (I don't own that set and I haven't seen this movie yet either)."
Yes exactly! That's what I was thinking after I saw the movie and was wondering how to make Goose possible.
@monkyby87
Alot of folks for some reason don't know these comic con exclusives are advertising.
They're not designed to make a profit on the exclusive. It's to get a buzz and hype and people talking about Lego before and during the shows.
There was a Forbes article way back on this. They take a loss but the strategy is it's all advertising.
Keep people talking about Lego. Even negative talk works in their favor too. Lego on the mind, all the time.
So like you said, they got the data to back it up. If it doesn't work, they'll stop the exclusives. So far, it's good advertising online-the various sites showing it for SDCC, Youtubers talking about it, etc.
it realy sucks that this isnt a walmart or target exclusive like the darth vader bust. then again i got it on clearence at target so maybe i'm answering my own question
Just got to hope it has no exclusive pieces or minifigs and I'm fine with it.
^It does. Carol's torso and maybe Maria's prints are exclusive.
This is an awesome looking set. Definitely disappointed that it is not available in any capacity to the general public for purchase.
I love the idea of con exclusives. Amazing mementos for attendees.
However, I prefer the idea of having all sets available for purchase, with the exclusives having some special identifier(s) to mark them as such (special packaging or markings on the pieces).
