£65 for a licensed set with 7 minifigs and 1000 pieces? Even with the disappointingly predictable disparity between US and UK prices that seems a bit of a bargain to me.

By in United States,

Those green light posts!! I will need a few dozen.

Gravatar
By in Serbia,

A good parts pack, at a good price.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

WOW these figs are great and the build is soooo much better than the Big Bang theory set

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A fine looking set! and decent value too, which never hurts!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Why is Joey eating pizza?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I didn't look at the original submission, but this looks fantastic regardless of whether you care for the show (I'm not a big fan, but Joey's head is one of the best minifigure expressions ever).

The layout is great, I love the fun they've had with the geometry, and I really like the studio set meta references.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am quite happy with this one.

The figs are spot on and they did an awesome job of scaling it down. And because of the scaling it down it’s at a great price point! And as a bonus, the the 1x2x3 dark green windows will be back in circulation!!!

I’m a very happy LEGO guy!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I see stickers specifically the “Service” sign ??

Gravatar
By in United States,

@SFMuscle73, I'm not seeing a sticker there. I pulled up a larger picture of it on the set detail page, and it looks like a print from what I can tell.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@SFMuscle73 - The seat backs, two posters and 'reserved' sign are stickers. Everything else is printed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Awesomely surprised at the final model! Might have to build a MOC apartment building with this as the lower level.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The wife who isn’t as much into Lego as the little one and I am, is into Friends and thus this could be her 2nd set (after the Parisian Cafe)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@someguy827 agree completely that this set shows how much better the Big Bang Theory set could (should) have been. If it had been similarly enclosed with the flat door and included the kitchen the two sets would have been perfect set against each other.

That aside it is just about the perfect set and one I will definitely by buying.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad the rumors weren't true about Gunther being dropped from the set. And I'm pretty happy with the price point overall!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don’t like friends, but holy cow! Over 1000 pieces for $60.00!!!! Keep it up LEGO!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I can’t believe that this set is only $60. I’ve only watched like two episodes of Friends but I think it’ll be one of the only Ideas sets I buy at full price because it’s just such a cool set!

Gravatar
By in France,

Looks great! And great price in France for once! Day one purchase for me :-)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This set looks perfect to me, and it seems already from reading the comments that even people who don't like the IP may want this set anyway as parts packs. Stickers are unusual for ideas sets but I can understand the need to have a sheet here instead of all printed parts. Bravo

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I am not a huge fan of the Friends TV show but if the local .au price is any good, I may have to pick this one up just for the parts and figs (some of those fig parts look quite useful for generic city stuff)

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Great looking set and Ross is spot on.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fine, but now I want a Lego Seinfeld set.

(Was Seinfeld in the same loose NBC universe as some of the other shows? Friends and "Mad About You" were established to be in the same world, with Phoebe having a twin sister on the other show.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a great set, awesome detail, and surprisingly good price. The wife is very interested in this set so that's a plus. It would be only my 3rd Ideas set.

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

This is much cheaper than I was expecting. Now all I need is a LEGO Frasier set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@ResIpsaLoquitur I don't recall any crossover characters in Seinfeld. All of the shows you mentioned were on NBC but Seinfeld was pretty self-contained.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well for that price I'm definitely picking up one of these... maybe from France?!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I love it!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

No interest in the show or characters so this set has little appeal for me, but it’s pretty clever how they designed this to resemble a TV sound stage rather than trying to make it look “real”. It reminds me of the LEGO Studios theme from the early 2000s!

The build itself is as complex and detailed as we’ve come to expect from LEGO Ideas, and I’m very surprised by it having such a great value for money, given the number of uniquely printed minifigure parts. I look forward to New Elementary doing a review highlighting which of the over 1000 parts are new or rare and might be in my interest to seek out on BrickLink.

All in all, though, I’m still more drawn to the OTHER type of “LEGO Friends” sets. :P

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

€59.99 in France against €69.99? Surely TLG can't be serious! I'm (positively) surprised it's not €74.99 in the Benelux…

Gravatar
By in United States,

What an incredible looking set. I have to agree it blows the Big Bang Theory apartment right out of the water.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now we need a Cheers set. Can I get a "Norm!"?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

@XIII, come to think of it, the bar from Cheers would be cool, too!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Never did like the series but this set looks nice and a good buy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

An Airwolf set would be amazing, too. Sticking with the set themes, it could include a 2nd helicopter with a camera taking video of Airwolf, and/or a volcano that splits open.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Any indication of early VIP availability?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Now we need Frasier's set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

35 comments and they're all "a good parts pack" and "I don't like the series but it's a nice set"?!?!

Well, I've watched every episode of the show and I think this set looks awesome. Day 1 buy for me. And I'm so glad that Gunther is included.

@Aanchir: I like both kinds of LEGO Friends!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Phoebe was twins with Ursula on Mad About You. Kramer appeared in an episode of Mad About You, therefore Friends and Seinfeld are connected via Mad About You!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Chandler also appeared in an episode of Caroline in the City, which also had cameos from Daphne Moon and Niles Crane from Frasier, which is also connected to Cheers and Wings. So they’re all tied together by a whole bunch of crossover appearances :-)

Gravatar
By in France,

OK that sets looks fantastic, I wasn't expecting much of it but it's well designed and very appealing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Although Joey did watch an episode of Cheers in the episode where they visited London, with is a bit meta considering they’re technically sharing the same universe!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've never watched Friends, I have no interest, so I'll pass. Really nice though and $60 for 1000 pieces is really good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am with Megan. Awesome set with amazing price point. Ross’s face is spot on and Joey looks like “how YOU doin’.”

My wife is a much bigger fan of the show but not of LEGO and even she is interested because of the ip

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very impressive and it's comforting to have Gunther in it. Definite buy for me.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

"Friends" and "Mad About You" were connected, but I'm not sure about Seinfeld.

Anyway. Love this set. I think it's brilliant.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a huge Big Bang Theory fan, this just makes me wish that set was better.... what could have been

Gravatar
By in United States,

I am taking it that Kramer's appearance on MAY is a bit of a joke. Apparently, there's a Seinfeld episode where George is *watching* MAY.

Fiction frequently gets cute and funny on an unofficial level. Marvel Comics has frequently snuck a person in its comics who is supposed to be Clark Kent, although of course, they can't come out and just say it. But it's a guy with a large build, dark hair, and glasses, and he's been referred to as "Clark," so...come on, well all know who it is.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@MeganL: no one I know who likes LEGO is also a fan of the show. Come to think of it, no one I know is a fan of the show. But even non-fans can appreciate a good parts pack, which so many here seem to comment on.

Otoh, while the price in the US is indeed good value, the European pricing is annoying again, as it often the case. The US price is less than 54 Euro.
And what's with France being cheaper than Germany, is this a first?
We usually tend to have either the same prices as France or slightly cheaper.
Ah well, this will be available at Smyths and Kaufhof after a while, so a discount is on the horizon.
And the UK price has to be a joke. Totally overpriced compared to other regions.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Love the show. Love the building. The minifigures? Meh. Mediocre with two exceptions: Ross and Gunther. That's the closest they could come up for Joey? Really?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@ phathead.
Whilst I agree to an extent that it needn't become a platform for sitcom sets only, it's not like they take a large percentage of the ideas sets made.
Also if the crowds are calling for it then that would justify more being done, I mean that is the whole notion of the platform. You want something in Lego form show us your idea and if loads want it then we'll consider it. Kinda just sounds like your putting your wants ahead of the majority. Sorry not having a pop just saying majority rules (as far as consumer products go)

Gravatar
By in United States,

OMG! Could this set BE a better value?! Sorry to anyone above if I replicated your Chandler joke, I was too excited to read all of the comments before posting, which I usually do (per proper etiquette). This is so detailed and rife w/90's nostalgia that my better half may lift her no-more-LEGO-before-Christmas-embargo!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm another who isn't a fan of the series, but this set is just plain excellent. Loads of tiny details, over a thousand pieces, and just $60?

My favorite detail has to be the old style cash register.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can't believe they made a set for this terrible show

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Disappointed that all the characters aren't made out of LEGO Friends minidolls.

In all seriousness, though, it looks great! Well-designed and useful for parts and minifigures regardless of whether you watch the show or not.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks like an excellent parts pack as well as an excellent gift for my sister who loves the show and has a passing interest in LEGO (she owns several of the older LEGO Friends sets, plus people packs and the porg).

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BigOnBricks your opinion is fine of course. I missed Friends in it’s heyday and always had a mild distain for it (not a fan of the sitcom format in general). But I watched it all last year and it’s a funny and enjoyable show. It’s famous for a reason.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@capnrex101 there’s no stickers, there’s never been a Lego ideas set with stickers yet

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not my thing, but a great looking set with lots of detail.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Amazing set, great value, iconic show. Mini figures are all good (Ross is great !), with the exception of Phoebe, but I guess she is the most difficult to get. Will buy at least one, probably more :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow! The first Friends set to not include any mini dolls! lol

Gravatar
By in United States,

So interesting that a license set with several minifigures can have over 1000 pieces and only be 60USD. I wonder what excuses LEGO cult members will use to justify the price of certain modern sets now that it's clear LEGO simply does price gouge certain sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Friends don't let friends get Friends haircuts.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Seeing as Lego has already sent out sets to be reviewed, when can we expect yours? Looks like a great set for sure, with lots of very nice brick built details. Such an improvement over the original fan submission, odd noone else has commented on that?

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

Looks cool, but I don't know anything about this set. I'll wait for your review

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Can someone please make an equally good «Seinfeld» apartment? I need that set in my life.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Looks great and the price is good too. Regarding whether certain shows are connected, Friends, big bang, cheers, etc, there is the theory of the Tommy Westphall universe. Tommy Westphail was a minor character in the TV program St Elsewhere. In the shows final episode it teased that the whole show was a figment of his imagination. Since then lots of shows have been connected to St Elsewhere via crossovers and references and such. This shared universe now encompases about 500 TV shows, including the three mentioned above. Here's a link if anyone's interested - https://thetommywestphall.wordpress.com/about/

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great set!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

@ttddailey Because it's his special, two pizzas.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

The looks are great! I am glad they included Gunther!
Start the speculations: as the minifigs all look like the characters in the early stage of the TV-series, maybe we'll get another set of Friends... I suggest the whole building like Lego did with Ghostbusters.
Thumbs up if you like this idea!!

Gravatar
By in France,

If I was single, without wife and child, house, rabbit and dog... Hmmmm sure I would get it. Day one. Right across Lego and one of some series I really appreciated. But today...

Edit : the more I look at it... :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Never seen the show, but at some point I might buy it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not a fan of the show, but this might just be the Cafe Corner interior we never got. Beautiful detailing!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was down as probable even before the reveal - seemed like it could be a nice display piece next to Big Bang, also not my favorite TV show ever. Here we are with a nice build, nice minifigs, nice p/p ratio and I'm a definite.

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but at least I have seen some episodes. Unlike Voltron. :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Canadian price is 50% higher than US price. Absurd.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really love that area rug! I don't recall ever seeing that technique in a limited area where it is sunk into the plates.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are those TV cameras or stage lights at the corners? That's a nice touch. Very nice set. I'll probably pick it up at some point.

Edit: If I had read all of Huw's article, I would have known they were light rigs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

$60 US equals about 50 British pounds!! UK fans getting ripped off again, no justification whatsoever.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

After the Treehouse set this is the second Ideas set where almost no one complains about the price!
Nice, isn’t it?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Decent value for money (and a huge improvement on the Big Bang Theory set), but this feels profoundly uninteresting and a waste of the opportunities for innovation that Ideas offers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Disappointed that the seat back is stickered as I’d happily buy loads of those. Still, some other great parts - definitely going to have to get some of the torsos.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll join the bandwagon of "it's a nice set, but not my thing." Very well done. Not entirely sure who's buying it, but well done.

Gravatar
By in United States,

How you doin'? My wife might volunteer to build this (she's my lobster). Hope it doesn't get delivered to Miss Chanandler Bong!

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Love this, and will definitely buy at least one, will be perfect for some stop-motion scenes. I love the little details. Grew up watching Friends and enjoyed the early seasons a lot (after season 4 the show got a bit unfunny and inconsistent IMO, but was still enjoyable). Makes me want to watch a few episodes again for some 90s nostalgia...

Gravatar
By in France,

I was very disappointed with the Ideas project, which looked very bland. Now, they really improved on it.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

No vip early access?

Gravatar
By in United States,

For those commenting about UK price vs USA, please remember UK has VAT included in price (I believe) but US adds sales taxes to price at checkout. 8.875% at my location.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Where is Ross’s brick-built keyboard? On the box image, he has a newspaper in his hand. I guess it was a late change, and an oversight by the one who wrote the highlights text.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Even with VAT factored in, the difference in US price versus rest of the world is most annoying and totally unjustified.

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

Wait a minute, 60€ for 1070 pieces? Amazing!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Bit of an oddity to make a LEGO set out of since it's not a current show (like The Big Bang Theory at the time), but at least they didn't make it outrageously big or expensive.

I bet the guy who played Gunther never imagined one day he'd be turned into a LEGO minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$60?! That deal is too good to be true.

@David1985: you're always using that phrase "LEGO cult members". We're all equally in the dark about pricing. Maybe for some reason licensing costs or one of the other 200 variables in pricing was different here. Are people "cult members" just for not making immediate judgments on the company for its pricing?

^all of the above statements of course excluding NZ/Au. Thats pretty ridiculous.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This one looks great, not my alley but I can respect it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Saw this earlier on IG I like it and still watch friends on channel 5 and comedy central,

I hope the polybag that follows this is one of Ross,s ex wives or Nora bing lol...

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Equal to $90 in Norway. Jaja..., still good value I presume. Great set, cool and recognizable figs and awesome level of details! Love it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

@zed80: Good point. I don't see Joey's man-bag either.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A glorious espresso machine finally makes its way to the LEGO universe. I don't like FRIENDS per se, but this will make for a great accessories pack in my Modular world.

Don't like the broken fourth wall by making it a TV studio stage set — but with or without those elements, it's not why I'm interested.

And, kudos for the innovative, textured build on the recessed/embedded area rug vs. going with standard tiling-atop-floor technique.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now just makes me wish that Luke's Diner had been licensed and greenlighted for production.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like the build, but the figures let me down a bit. Ross and Monica work for me, but The likeness on the rest isn’t as good. The context and costumes obviously make them serviceable, but that is relatively faint praise

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@nvbrit This isn’t the first ideas set to have stickers, the old fishing store had some stickers too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if Ross said to Rachel ‘we were on a brick!’

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The set looks well designed, but since I hated the show, I'm a hard pass on this one.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Super set will definitely be getting a couple of these on day one. Great price point for what your getting. Well done Lego

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fully expect the USD price to change by September 1. My money’s on $80USD...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm really curious to know as to whether the heads are double-sided. I'm guessing No but I really think they should offer dual facial expressions for any flesh-toned Minifigure heads moving forward.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

If you look at the carpet on the florid closely you can see some dark gray gear rack 1x2 parts. Anyone seen them before?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Those aren't gear racks, its the 1 x 2 brick with horizontal and vertical grooves used in a neat way with some SNOT going on.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$60 for this set is an amazingly good deal

Gravatar
By in United States,

As I said the other day, not a fan of the show at all. Will be looking to get a good deal on this one solely for the parts. There are some great pieces in this set. It is an impressive set.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

@APS_HEARTS_ABS
At least one of the heads is double-sided: there is an image of the blonde guitar girl with an alternate singing head.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think Rachel's hair broke the mould.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No interest in this set, but that's a great price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$60 USD for roughly 1,100 pieces AND licensed figures? This seems like a great parts pack if nothing else

Gravatar
By in United States,

According to Lego it's a "memorabilia item". At least it's cheap-ish at $60. But I never, ever want to buy a Lego set described as a "memorabilia item".

Gravatar
By in Canada,

HOW YOU DOIN?
This set looks awesome. The mini figure of Ross is hilarious. I can’t believe Gunther is included. Is Rachel’s hair a new element? Love that Joey has pizza. I can hear Phoebe singing “Smelly cat” with that guitar. Chandler and Monica are spot on. Who will buy two sets, one for building and one for parts? Can we see a 2nd set of the apartments? Maybe with changing themes so we can see Joey in front of Rachel’s Thanksgiving trifle?
Maybe that last one is a stretch.

Gravatar
By in China,

Man, I wish more Star Wars sets had incredible value like this set. If a Star Wars set has this many parts, it goes for $120+! Twice as much as this one.

This set looks fantastic, though! Never watched the show before, but this set has truly intrigued me.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I hope Seinfeld is next. I saw someone did a perfect build for it. in the ideas, I'm supporting it.

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Sorry for breaking the habit, but I watched the show and would add opinion about the set :)
Monica's outfit looks strange. I had to look it up and she actually wore that, but even a chef costume would have been better. The other 2 girls look O.K.
Ross's face is perfect! I don't see the reference with the newspaper. Wgy not a Science Boy notebook?
Joey's expression is also quite good, the "how you doin" face :)
Chandler is just okay, though I don't know how he could be approved. The vest is a must have I guess.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fun fact, some character in the show may be a fan of LEGO. Here you can see a (modified) Toa Kaita Whirua.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKolI5vXnhA
(The mask is incorrect, but it's neat to see an honest-to-goodness BIONICLE in FRIENDS of all things...)

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

The Ross minifigure should really have one of the baby dinosaurs from Jurassic World instead of a newspaper!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I want to see Pops diner next from riverdale and 5 minifigs included... lego make it happen!!

Gravatar
By in Finland,

€85.99 in Finland, Lego continuing their bizarre European pricing structure I see.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will I be buying this? Hell yes! The 90s revolved around Friends for me and my friends, back in the days when you had to wait a week before the new episode was on. Oh except when the VHS was released before the end of the series so if you bought that you could binge watch it, but you can imagine how much room 10 seasons took up on the shelf when there were 3 tapes per season! The episode when Phoebe said that Rachel was Ross' lobster was the night before my wedding in 1996, and on our wedding day my lobster and I linked claws and are still together. Over the years we've had the posters, sugar pourers, mugs, keyrings, the haircuts, so this is a complete no-brainer!

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

- Could I BE more excited?! ....How U doin'?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was a huge fan of Seinfeld for its subversive, irreverent and bizarre comedy. Friends just fell flat for me. My initial thought was "easy pass" but if it goes on sale 1000 parts for that cheap it would be hard to pass up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@JMaster: I'm with one of the commenters on the video - that kinda just looks like flowers. Good eye though.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

My daughter's already BEGGING for it: I'll have to buy 2 of them.

People, I don't know what you think but the Ideas theme is burning hot.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think I will pop over to France to purchase this one as cheaper there than here in UK!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

@moggy001: but hurry. Do it before Halloween. You know, the exchange rate might become a little less favorable after that... ;-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great set! Glad to see Gunther finally getting some respect.! However, they could add Gunther- a secondary character at best but not give us a Dino in the Flintstones set?!!!??? Even a brick built one???? Cmon Lego!!!!!!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

tbh I love how it is a tv show set, not cafe, but there are lamps and other stuff

it makes it so much more unique

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^ @AustinPowers but Boris Johnson has promised us that a glorious bright new dawn lies over the horizon and the world will be down on it’s knees begging to do business with us, so everything is going to be dirt cheap over here.
Or he could be lying and we will all be buying Lepin if we can afford it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

You won't even be able to buy Lepin anymore as the company is dead.
But you are right of course, as is Boris, the future of Britain looks brighter than ever ;-)

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

@Various : I hope you realise that Boris Trumpson is going to make Blighty the 51st State, and so the United Kingdom (hereinafter The United States' Kingdom) will get full US pricing. See?! Its all going to work out fine. No cause for alarm....

But this is a great set. I watched the series from start to finish on the original UK run and although the end was a bit limp (as it was for Big Bang Theory) there's still a lot of affection for it. I'm guessing this will be as popular as the BBT set. And I'd love to see future "expansion sets" for both.

Gravatar
By in United States,

By in United Kingdom,

To everyone complaining about the US-UK price disparity, the UK price includes 20% VAT, which the US does not. Add 20% to $60 and you get $72, which is about £60 at today's exchange rate, so £65 really isn't much more. Never forget VAT when comparing US pricing, it's what makes most of the difference.

Also, @morvit, the Canadian price is in Canadian dollars and the US price is in US dollars, so in what way is it 50% more? $89.99 CAD is $67.58 USD, so it's $7.58 or 13% more.
