#ShowUsYourISD competition winners
Posted by Huw,
Our #ShowUsYourISD competition, in which we asked you to show how you are displaying the new 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer for the chance to win 50,000 VIP points, has come to an end.
We had some great entries on Instagram and Twitter and we have now chosen the winners.
1st prize (50,000 VIP points): the_lego_rancor on Instagram
the_lego_rancor has mounted his upright on his mantelpiece which really shows off the distinctive wedge-shape of the craft. The light behind accentuates it well and helps makes it a stunning centre-piece in his room.
2nd prize (20,000 VIP points): @Dizman7 on Twitter:
Most of us can only dream of having a space large enough to display so many Star Wars sets in such an awesome way. The ISD takes pride of place on the top of Dizman7's cabinets, which are nicely lit and uncluttered, the key to an attractive display.
3rd prize (10,000 VIP points): kosztap on Instagram:
kosztap's is using an old CRT television wall mount for his. It's a genius solution that anyone could use to display the ISD, or any other large set for that matter, in their room without it getting in the way.
So, congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who entered. We'll be in touch to sort out your prizes.
There's one other entry we should mention, by may_the_lego_be_with_you on Instagram:
It narrowly missed out in the prizes because we're not sure about the sustainability of the display solution :) However, I suspect the picture will be used for memes for years to come...

Every lego competition is a rich get richer stunt.
Props to the last photo. It’s super creative and funny. Personally it’s my winner.
@Thunbear you couldn't have said it better. Totally agree!
I thought this was a contest on displaying 75252 creatively and well? Dizman7’s display is an eyeful for sure, but it took me a while to find 75252. It’s a lovely large collection and the blue-lit cases are beautiful, but 75252 is just sitting on the top on one. Quantity beats quality? (Sure the room looks like great quality, but 75252 is just placed on top of a case...) I don’t get it?
Props to the_lego_rancor because it has been displayed to be a great centerpiece and focal point for the room, but non-LEGO-fan visitors might just assume it’s an art piece from Pier 1 Imports or such.
I really like what kosztap did. It showcases the set so well allowing it to be seen as exactly what it is and from several angles too!
I agree with @yuffie 100%.
The last one should have been the winner by a clear mile.
That last picture should win. It has actual thought in it.
I agree on with many of the above. The creativity of the “honorable mention” makes it my favorite of the the ones shown by far. 3rd place has a nice functional solution. 2 is just a photo of a display and, the winner, while reasonably nice visually, I can’t image people would want to display one vertically except for space or this contest because that isn’t how it is normally thought of. Kudos to everyone for putting in the effort to enter and for those running the contest - I know it takes a lot of work
The winner looks fantastic.
The checkered pattern kn the hearth reminds me of Lego as well and have you noticed the smaller star destroyers at the bottom? Nice.
Congrats to the winner.
Also pretty fond of nr3.
I agree with @ericjohn regarding option 2.
While the room looks fantastic, compared to the number 1 and the number 3 he just put it on cabinet.
The comedy option is gold as well. Thumbs up for those two for the creativity and humor. :D
There was always going to be negativity on this one, but if you can try to stay independent the original complaints about the people that can afford the most expensive sets being in a competition only open to the very few that can seems to have come to pass. No offence to the winners, I didnt enter, but its clear someone has won a lot of points that has the means to buy lego without them. IF these were the only 4 entries for me the last one is the winner, for comedy value, 2nd is the 2nd placed one, which is a very impressive display and room. 3rd would go to the rather worrying vertical install. I would not be able to sleep if that was on my Mantlepiece, or have anyone come round.
I'd be terrified to put such a large set on a tv mount.
That last picture though... XD
Loving these
The fourth idea really made me laugh ??
Thanks for the competition Huw and thanks for the 3rd place.
For those who want to use this solution:
These wall mounts were designed for a 40-50kg TV so to place a 10kg Lego modell on it is safe. It will not fall off, the mount is very stable so its almost as safe as placing it on the top of a shelf.
Also you can place the mount at any hight so you won't bang your head into it and you can walk under it safely. ;-)
Third one looks absolutely terrifying, feels like someone walking could easily cause a horrible accident
I enjoyed all but one of the entries mentioned here — I agree the third place winner looks very precarious! Congrats to the winners at any rate.
No photos of the ISD with cloaking devices?
Clearly the last one is the true winner.
Great photos, love the last one.
I think 2nd place is much more impressive than 1st. And last one is pretty funny :D
"2 is a willy-waving picture of how many sets the person has". Really?
While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, why would you be so crass, rude and vulgar towards a lover of the Lego?
It is obvious the person loves Lego, and has allot of pride in their collection.
To me it looks like a wonderful way to display a collection. Like artwork that is easily accessible to share with others and play with.
Cheers everyone.
That huge Star Wars display is super impressive. It badly needs a UCS AT-AT though... :)
The last pic should have won on humor and originality alone.
What a ridiculous “contest” though...
Four curbstomps all the other entries.
Props to the winners, and the last one is funny. The one with the wall mount looks off though, the angle where the TV mount meets the wall and the scale of the ISD seem to change. It almost looks photoshopped.
I would be worried about putting Lego above a fireplace due to the heat, unless the fireplace is purely a decorative one and not used, and the second pic seems just another "look at my collection" pic. I do like the innovative use of a redundant TV bracket as they are designed to take some weight but The final pic really showcases the length of the ISD in a humorous way.
Hello! So, I wanted to congratulate the winners and say thank you for the contest! I am the one who entered the picture with me in the bed and my wife on the floor! I’ve read the comments and am pleased it got the reaction I was going for! I was worried about the entry bc clearly it isn’t my permanent display location haha. (I’d be divorced if it were so). I think, as adults with spouses who don’t share the same hobby, there’s often an issue with collecting Lego bc of them being traditionally labeled as “toys” and bc they can get quite pricey. That’s why I did the picture... makes light of that situation. Also, it looks pretty impressive at that angle... because it IS an impressive set! I do appreciate the shout out though. They didn’t have to do that and it made me happy! So thanks again! And congratulations to the winners!!
My Instagram is may_the_lego_be_with_you If anyone wants to check it out! May The Force Be With You!
1st one seems way more likely to fall than the 3rd.
You know what would be cool? Just a general "how do you display your Lego" or "Lego layout"
This is the Lego equivalent of Pay to Win.
I still can't wrap my head around why the last one didn't win, or at least scored better than the first runner up.
@ra226 But this time the transactions can’t really be called micro
Excellent! All of these look very good and might even tempt me to buy the ISD myself :).
Throck deserves more than honorable mention :/
All of these are really good, and I like the ingenuity of the CRT stand.
@Peter1999 I agree
Last one for the win! I like it best :-) @Throck588 I thought your photo was genius!!
@Dash_Justice I think you may be right. The shadows are wrong too. The shadows from the furniture is below the furniture as if lit from higher up but the shadow of the model is above it on the wall even though the top of the model is clearly lit.
The wall bracket is wrong too. In the small top right picture the wall mount is not vertical despite the pov being almost from level with the model. The pov of the model between the pictures changes but the pov of the stand in relation to the furniture stays the same. Something just feels off with the picture.
^Actually, now you mention it, the first one looks a little shopped too. With the back lighting and angle etc, shouldn't the back of the bridge section have alot more shadow on it too?
Damn, it ended and I forgot to show how I keep mine!
I forgot to visit the LEGO Store to take a picture with the shelf were I display mine.
Wow! Thanks so much to Brickset and Lego for the contest and prizes. I didn’t think I would win, precisely due to the love out there for the more quirky ‘display’ solutions that I will admit are hilarious, plus some amazing Aladdin’s caves of Star Wars displays. Just for avoidance of doubt, The_Lego_Rancor is indeed my alter ego on Instagram.
Sure the contest is only open to those that can afford the set, but didn’t we already have this discussion/heated debate when the contest was first announced? There’s no need to take it further, but I would like to point out there are some fantastic displays shared in the Brickset forum that really take things to another level, without any entry criteria.
Thanks for all the positive comments -just to clear up a couple of practicalities for transparency as my Instagram post didn’t have loads of detail:
- A much longer length of time for display is not a massive concern for me, because I’m hoping to move into a new flat soon (no fireplace though :/ )
- The model isn’t glued - neither the bricks nor the stand. Because the weight of the bridge would make the ship tip back if placed perfectly vertical, it’s actually leaning forwards slightly against the light coming from the back
- Relating to last, the model isn’t actually fastened to the wall. I had some wood offcuts from a broken piece of furniture and measured to ensure they could fit within the engine space of the ship fairly snugly, with a small wedge for the lean and to support it from the bottom. It won’t get knocked easily, though I admit there may be bending if left there for a long time without additional back supports
- The fireplace is decorative with an electric fire inside. Call it an odd piece of interior that I still have some fireplace-related items around it to make it feel more real
- A final tip if anyone is planning to lift or move the ISD vertically - it is possible to do undamaged but it definitely helps to remove the rear flaps/tiles because they will come off anyway otherwise. The engines also need their clips removing - I didn’t want to break them under the weight but the cones are surprisingly strong. Let’s put it this way - there’s probably a reason why lifting vertically isn’t shown in the instructions. I was literally having hot sweats getting it into position - it is categorically not photoshopped and I don’t think the other winners were either :)
Congrats to the winners!
Fun to see a runner up and his partner with a sense of humour!
Sad to see so much negativity surrounding a fun contest.
Wow scary get a life people
1: It looks...... like it's about to fall off. And it isn't actually lit well, the backlight is distorting.
2: If they were judging you based on the size of your Star Wars Lego collection, there were some more impressive entries. Sure, the lighting in those cases is nifty, but the ISD is just plonked on top of one, you barely even notice it. Are men to be judged by the size of their wallets, or their sense of humor? We want funny, not money. Not to say it was a bad entry, or that you can't show off your enormous collection... but it wasn't a winning entry.
3: At first it looks like it will fall off, but those TV stands are actually pretty sturdy. And it offers an excellent view of the bottom too. The only one of the winners that actually deserved it.
I cannot believe the runner-up didn't win! Obviously that wasn't a permanent solution. It was supposed to be funny and creative!
And what about the one with a cat on top of the ISD? Or the "cloaking device" one? Or the ISD displayed on a tiled island in a pool? Or the one hovering over an ENTIRE TO-SCALE JEDHA CITY MOC?
...Not even the one still in its shipping box?
Congrats to all the winners and I love the last one. What happened to the one with the cat?
So bored with all the negativity -look at me complain, I am awesome.. yawn.
So I guess the important takeaway here is that pancakes don't hold a candle to the new UCS ISD.
Far and away the last one is THE best one.
Perfect spot for the Star Destroyer to snuggle up with, watch tv, and GREAT to wake up too.

Cool, no wonder I purchase Lego less and less, it's obviously rich people toy.
Only entry that was original (but perhaps a bit edgy) and not a wealth display got no reward. I guess creativity means nothing anymore but who can glue model better and place it in luxury environment.
Obviously our values are diametrically opposed.
Number 2 is just someone flexing their Star Wars collection. Besides, it was pretty hard for me to find the ISD in the picture for a while.
@yuffie: perhaps you indeed are.
Some of my negative posts (not in this thread) were also censored recently, and since then all of my posts (even though none of them were negative) have perhaps been given a cloaking device, because apparently no one reacts to them in any way anymore. Even when I ask a question or answer someone else's questions, there is zero reaction. It is as if I am now the only one who can see them.
First of all I would like to congratulate the other winners!
Reading the comments I was suprised that some people think my display solution was photoshopped, so for those that are in doubt here are some short videos about it:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B4hcay0JP2O/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
So everyone can see that is real and if someone is interested in using this solution can check the functions and stability.
Cheers
Number 4 is my favourite. And congrats on having a girlfriend who played along.
For me it's no contest, the last one wins hands down.
I sincerely hope for this type of contest to be a one-off. I have a hard time finding anything positive about it and I wonder how Huw actually feels about it himself. The whole concept is so miserable and prone to creating negativity, jealousy, and hate. Contests with a similar premise are all over the place... mostly designed directly for marketing purposes and an increase in profit. But I think the community here at Brickset is too good for such cheap practices.
Nothing against the winners btw. They should not be yelled at for participating and winning. It's not their fault that the contest sucks.
The last picture really is amusing and I agree it has earned it's long-lasting fame already! :D
@Dizman7 must be a very big LEGO Star Wars fan to own 75098 and 75201! :P
Jokes aside, I really like the first one, it's very creative. The second, while not especially original, has an awe-inspiring effect, due to the surrounding display. The third one, in my opinion, is inventive, but seems just a bit on the odd side. The honorable mention is just plain old hilarious.
Too bad I didn't enter, because I definitely own the ISD, and I keep it next to my Porsche. ;)
To quote Darth Vader "Most impressive."
In short, only if you have a lot of money then you can get 50.000 VIP points. Sad
That fourth one is hilarious! Great job on the judging.
Gee, I don’t have the money to buy a big LEGO set I desperately want, so I can’t compete in this contest. What to do... I know! I’ll complain about how unfair the contest is and shame the people who entered the contest! Yay me!
Seriously, you people are repugnant.
@Dizman That is a cool entertainment center display you’ve got. I very much like the blue lighting.
Just one question: How can you concentrate on the TV when you have it surrounded by all that awesome LEGO?
Awesome photos, congrats to the winners!
I 'ooohed' and 'ahhh-ed' at the first 3 and laughed hard at the honorable mention.
All the sour grapes, though...pathetic & divisive.
