Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 10

Posted by ,

Our second banner arrived yesterday, probably confirming that every Hogwarts house will have been represented at the conclusion of the Harry Potter Advent Calendar.

Let's find out whether the next banner emerges on day ten...

In fact, another exclusive minifigure has appeared today! This version of Ron Weasley is based upon Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, sporting an attractive dark red jumper which was knitted by Molly Weasley. The woven texture looks wonderful and I like the decorative flame yellowish orange 'R' across the front, complementing the earlier Harry Potter minifigure from day one.

Ron's double-sided head was introduced last year and appears suitable for the character, particularly given the contrasting cheerful and frightened facial expressions. The white details in the eyes look too large in my opinion but I love the printed freckles and hair component. This minifigure carries a reddish brown wand, as usual.

Overall - 5.0 - Exclusive minifigures are generally the highlight of LEGO Advent Calendars and I am delighted with this festive Ron Weasley figure.

I love these Christmas sweaters! The young faces introduced last year look their best with these designs. Several holiday themed minifigs, actually based on the source material, along with useful builds that fit in with the rest of the sets of its line, are the reasons the HP calendar is the best calendar LEGO has ever produced. Focusing the calendar on one film is brilliant, and I hope they continue with «Chamber of Secrets» and «Goblet of Fire» in the years to come :D

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. After another colossal fail on Day 9, HP fans can now feel SW breathing down their neck. But it appears once again, when faced with adversity, HP responds with an exclusive offering- this time in the form of Little Ron with Christmas Sweater. Pairing with his chum Harry from Day 1, this figure is exclusive to the advent calendar, matching the exclusive "Old Luke" fig which emerged in yesterday's SW calendar.

On the flip side, we have a mini-build of the quadjumper from SW: TFA. The build has garnered a seemingly positive response, although it has been slightly divisive. This one is close, but based on a HP's perfect score vs a 4.5/5 for SW, the point goes to HP. Once again, HP has staved off SW for another day, and the score is now:

HP- 6
SW- 4

To be continued...

Just want to point out that the existence of a second banner doesn't necessarily confirm the other two. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are frequently excluded.

Now, I agree that two more banners is likely. But in the interest of accurate reporting, I don't think you can make that conclusion with such confidence *just* yet.

Its alot more complicated then that though. While it is 4-6 on the day to day scores, its tying on the overall scores at 40/50 each, but Star Wars has scored consistently higher. Its lowests being a 3 for the island on day 8, to HP's 2.5 for its banners on day 5. Its only the overly generous scoring of HP's Minifigs making it seem so close.

I am basing this on the head-to-head matchup. So I’m not looking at total cumulative score- just which model comes out on top each day. While I’ve generally been sticking with the reviewers score, I am also basing this on my opinions too.

Also, “overly generous scoring”on HP minifigs, is just an opinion as well.

Lastly, I’m just having a laugh doing this- it’s not meant to be taken super seriously
