Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 23

Posted by ,

Four magnificent Christmas presents emerged yesterday and I am hoping that festive theming will remain consistent until the end of the Harry Potter Advent Calendar.

Let's open the door and find out...

Some outstanding minifigures have emerged throughout the Harry Potter Advent Calendar and Albus Dumbledore is another brilliant addition. This minifigure previously appeared in 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall but I welcome his return here, especially since the dark red attire includes extraordinary detail and corresponds precisely with the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone movie.

Metallic gold designs are scattered across the torso and legs beside an intricate cross-hatched pattern. The textured hair element and beard appear similarly authentic. Furthermore, two different expressions decorate the head, displaying a subtle smile on one side with a calm expression on the other. Both look effective, although the distinction is hardly visible behind the beard. Dumbledore's hat has been omitted which is slightly disappointing.

Overall - 4.5 - I was impressed with Albus Dumbledore when 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall was released and am delighted that more people will now have an opportunity to add this excellent minifigure to their Wizarding World collections!

"I can’t believe that’s the only figure not exclusive to this calendar. That’s got to be some sort of record to have 7 exclusive figures ( going by the Brickset database)."

I agree it's a record for custom Minifigures, but I believe McGonagall was in The Great Hall.

@The_Teenage_Brickster - Professor McGonagall only differs from the previous minifigure because the version from 2018 featured two faces whereas the Advent Calendar example only has one. Nevertheless, the minifigure selection is certainly very generous!

Question I asked in the City thread:

Does anyone else feel like maybe Lego should consider retiring some of the Advent Calendar themes? This year's Harry Potter has been a burst of creativity, while some of the City builds have been pretty sad compared to prior years. I feel like "every Advent Calendar needs a sled" combined with "we have to redesign it completely every year" is leading to some bad outcomes.

Follow-up comment: I would *love* to see Lego start rotating themes in the Advent Calendars. Like, maybe no Harry Potter next year (this has been so relatively good that I'd hate to see it go into a slow, boring decline), but do a DC Comics one?

I feel like Dumbledore, being a figure attired in red and with a grey beard, would’ve been even more suitable for Day 24.

This year's calendar was based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. So moving on to the next book/movie the following year would only be logical - and could provide enough change to keep it interesting.

@CapnRex101 one side of Dumbledor's head is bespectacled whereas the other is not - more than a hardly visible distinction, but definitely subtle.

Interesting having a minifigure like Dumbledore be the Day 23 slot. That would imply that the final day is a build of some kind. I am expecting a nice final build since there are always high expectations for the Day 24 opening.

Maybe 24 is better. A nice working pensieve or recyclable Phoenix.

Very surprised to see Dumbledore on day 23. Totally expected him to be the final one considering he's a bearded man in red robes...

I'm glad the one I got has much better printing on the legs than the one shown here in the picture. The leg printing actually fits with the torso and the color matches too. I'm quite surprised to see how poorly fitting it is in the pic above. Wonder what it looks like for others?

In a future Harry Potter calendar I would like a Santa Hagrid, not just because of him being a large, kind bearded man who loves children, but he is directly compared in the Goblet of Fire book "with the air of Father Christmas pulling an extra-large toy out of his sack."

Would have liked to see the dress piece used instead of legs, and a recolour of Dumbledore's hat from the collectable minifigure.

@CCC:
Star Wars has an actual tradition with Santa-fied characters, as both the Yoda and R2/3P0 pair were loosely based off of two of Lucasfilm’s most famous Christmas cards. I’m not aware of any similar source material for Harry Potter. Conversely, there’s no actual Christmas featured in any official Star Wars canon (Lucas or Disney), while at least two of the movies included Christmas/Yuletide scenes from the books, so in a way it feels less legitimate to stick HP characters in Santa suits.
