Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 13

Posted by ,

Original Trilogy items have become available on days eleven and twelve. For this reason, another such model seems probable on day thirteen and could prove appealing.

Let's open the next door and find out...

7958 Star Wars Advent Calendar offered a miniature Mouse Droid during 2011 and another such droid arrives today. However, this model deviates significantly in design when compared with its predecessor, corresponding with the Mouse Droid from 75251 Darth Vader's Castle. 1x1 curved plates with bars form the wheels and I like the 1x1 clip which represents the textured command order tray.

The dark bluish grey core looks slightly awkward though and black would undoubtedly have been more appropriate. I favour the Mouse Droid from 75522 Mini Boost Droid Commander, although the tiny scale of this model is impressive when displayed beside minifigures.

Overall - 3.0 - I appreciate this Mouse Droid and certain aspects of its design, although there is potential for improvement too.

That's a thorough "meh".

This might be the first day of the calender where city and friends are better than both HP and star wars

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. We are now entering the back half of the advent competition and fittingly, after 12 days and for the first time this season, the score is all tied. The first half has seen some pleasant highs and bizarre lows on both calendars. Recently though, SW is on a hot streak while HP has gone cold. That said, let’s take a look at the offerings on a pivotal Day 13.

Behind the door for Day 13 of the HP calendar is…another flag. Quickly becoming “The-Gift-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named”, the calendar has now established a pattern of mediocrity with respect to this “gift.” We’ve seen a variant on Days 5, 9, and now 13. Will we see another on Day 17? We will have to wait to find out. This Ravenclaw flag gives us another pearl silver offering which is welcome but at this point, it won’t help its case in a race this close.

On the flip side, the SW calendar produced a new version of the Mouse Droid. The author rightfully points out that the grey core looks awkward but the design is novel in its simplicity. That said, this offering is not the strongest by any stretch of the imagination.

Again, on what turned out to be a pivotal day, both calendars lacked punch and slightly let down their respective fans. But based on a score of 3/5 vs 2.5/5 and also on HP's repetitive offering, SW walks away with the point on Day 13. And with that, SW takes the lead for the first time this holiday season. The score is now:

SW- 7
HP- 6

To be continued…

By in Netherlands,

I was actually looking forward to see who @Matt_Z_ would award the win to today as both HP and SW are fairly rubbish today.

By in United Kingdom,

I thought it was pathetic, given the number of tiny pieces compared to other days.

By in United States,

Build this, and have Chewie from Day 7 roar at it...

By in Ireland,

Notwithstanding the limited number of pieces I think this is rather cute!

By in United Kingdom,

A weaker build of the advent imo but at least it ain't as bad ads "Acht to Island"

It’s rubbish like this you have to factor in when deciding whether or not to buy the current year’s advent calendar.

At least the island thing was OK if you viewed it from a very, very long way away.

And squinted.

Dull, but not terrible, since Mouse Droids are such easy inclusions for any number of sets.

I hate this version of the mouse droid. Clip makes it ugly and gray body is odd. Why not black? It was good to previously on other sets.

Very much agreed. Hope the HP banners will stop soon.

By in Canada,

Honestly, I didn't understand why they chose not to include enough parts for two of them. Everybody needs an army of these little guys to run through their Imperial Strongholds, and it would have been interesting if they gave us a regular build and then a build using festive colours for an extra.
