Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 14

Posted by ,

Our third item affiliated with the Galactic Empire arrived yesterday, hence I am expecting another such model or minifigure to appear behind door number fourteen.

Find out after the break...

In fact, our attention has now shifted towards the Prequel Trilogy and this Corporate Alliance Tank Droid looks excellent. Its distinctive shape has been replicated effectively and I like the dark tan highlights that match the original vehicle. Light bluish grey binoculars depict the optical sensors while 1x1 round plates with bars form poseable laser cannons on either flank.

Furthermore, I like the 1x2 grille slope which represents the textured tread. Unfortunately, that does not continue onto the front of the Tank Droid and I think 1x1 round plates could have been situated near the back, forming the rearmost drive wheel. The stabilising outriggers look superb though and include some interesting 1x2 inverted curved slopes which might prove useful for various creations.

Overall - 4.5 - This rendition of the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid looks brilliant when compared with its source material, although the rear wheel should be larger and could be modified easily.

Have we ever had a minifig-scale CAT Droid with this much tan in the design? It honestly looks a little jarring now.

By in United Kingdom,

This is one of my favourite builds from this year's calendar. I agree it would have looked better with 1x1 roundies on the back though.

By in United Kingdom,

Again I love the grey 1x1 studs with horizontal bar, overall a meh build but it means that in the next few days there will be a droid character I feel it with this build, every figure is next to a build that goes with them case in hand the Acht To Island came the day before Old Man Luke

Definitely one of the best vehicles builds for the calendar so far.

Apart from saying that this is an exemplary build all I can say is "roger roger"!

Battle of the Licensed Advent Calendars continues. After ceding the lead to SW on Day 13, HP fans are in full panic mode for the fate of the calendar after three consecutive losses. This year's race is anyone's game at this point but the momentum has clearly shifted in SW favor. That said, let's take a look at the offerings awaiting us on Day 14.

Behind the door of HP's calendar stood a magnificent child rendition of Hermione Granger. Rounding out the triad of main characters, this exclusive figure is a welcome site. The author points out that light grey hands would have been more accurate to source material but the printing on the torso more than makes up for it. I also found the hair piece to be very accurate and really rounds out the figure nicely. Along with her counterparts, she comes complete with her wand of light tan/beige origin.

On the flip side, SW saw a version of the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid emerge today. This buildable mini model is faithful to source material and is a nice step up from yesterday's mouse droid. Color scheme is on point although the author takes issue with the rear wheel- a minor flaw in an otherwise superb offering.

All in all, both calendars bounced back from arguably their worst offerings this holiday season on Day 13. This is another close call albeit in a positive way rather than a negative one. Based on the trend of minifigs winning their respective days across both calendars, as well as a perfect score for HP vs a 4.5/5 for SW, the point goes to HP. With the Day 14 bounce back, the score is once again tied for the second time this holiday season, and now stands:

HP- 7
SW- 7

To be continued...

Great model. Looks just like it. Love the tan and the use of the grille is brilliant.

I hope this doesn’t mean that our next figure will be an ordinary battle droid.

By in Germany,

It's good, but I'm sad we're already done with the Empire.

You should start using Aurebesh numerals instead of roman numerals for the headline photos of the star wars advent calender reviews.
