By in Belgium,

Think this is supposed to be the FIAT 500 L, but with every other car LEGO has ever made: it doesnt really look like the actual car...so I will definately pass

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Might just be the first in the Creator Expert car range that I pass on. Looks like it suffers from the same problem as the Aston Martin in that the real car has a lot of curves, particularly along the sides of the bodywork an doors - something Lego just can't recreate well, so we just end up with flat brick walls instead. Plus, let's be brutally honest, the old Fiat 500 isn't the prettiest car anyway, so the fact that the model doesn't even do it justice says a lot about the set.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

wow! as Italian I really love this set! Even the Lego versions of the posters are awesome! Totally nailed it!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I think it looks rubbish. Like a MOC build by an amateur who just gave up. It looks unfinished and not at all like a Fiat 500. It seems like for every good car LEGO release there's at least a few bad ones. I won't even bother with this one even if it's on sale.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’ve never liked this scale of build so it’s not for me, but I love the colour (it’s revived some 15-year-old pieces, yay!) and that painting would look brilliant in a modular building gallery.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Mmmm, look at all those new light yellow pieces. Such a huge boon to that underutilised colour. As always, excited to see new colours of 29119 and 29120. And I suspected that 1x3x2 curved slope in trans-clear wasnt made exclusively for that statium (as its barely visible in there and seems pretty unnecessary), perhaps this was the real reason it was made.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Great representation for what is achievable in lego. Lego by its nature in this scale can not recreate the complex curves of this compact Italian design. It’s another iconic automobile which is clear just from a glance which model it is.
The biggest problem I have is the space to display it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like Luigi from cars lol :) Whoever gets this might want to consider modifying the windshield to have eyes! For real though, this set is just ok. Not anything special really, but that’s just my take.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Interesting to see them make this car, don't know why I wasn't expecting this but I just wasn't expecting a Fiat 500. Looks cool though and £74.99 for 960 isn't bad. Love the little painting included as well a fun little feature to add onto a pretty decent display model.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The random set of the day is almost prophetic, Creator 4404 Land Busters, being a rather curved, yellow car. All glory to the Huwbot.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I quite like it but I won't be rushing out to buy it tomorrow, maybe in the summer. I'm mostly glad it is a Creator car set down to less than £100 again. I like the yellow, but if yellow was the 1 choice for this years car I would have preferred a New York taxi cab.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Well
It's not a mind blowing set, but I wouldn't compare this to the DB5. It's better than that

Price seems fair, the build looks cute but my favorite part is the posters. They did an amazing job recreating nostalgia

Yes I thought that myself. He must have glimpsed at the draft article I prepared last night :)

Kind of neat, but as a former Fiat owner, I can say it stands for:
Fixing
It
All the
Time

Gravatar
By in Australia,

There are plenty of cars I would buy if made into a Creator Expert set (including anything Lambo) but a Fiat isn't one of them.

Thankfully LEGO are doing a Technic Lambo later in the year that should (assuming the Australian price isn't obscene and that they pick a cool color for it rather than something boring) satisfy my desire for a large size car for my collection.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I really don't understand why they use a render and not a photograph for the box art, looks so awkward with all those horizontal lines between the bricks and plates.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ AGreed. It doesn't look great, does it. Presumably it's cheaper and easier to do so than employ photographers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love it, but the front is a bit plain, since most models tend to have a sort of bullbar at the front...Nothing a few silver pieces can't fix!
@Huw do we know how or when are they going to give out those posters?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love.
It.
End.
Of.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

An addition to my ‘end of’.... ;-). It’s quite nice to have a set with a RRP of £74.99 after a few more expensive cars over the last few years. We haven’t seen this price since 2016 beetle. With a current want list as long as my arm this also makes me happy!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is what happens when you upgrade Huwbot to a Quantum Computer.

Thanks to Heisenberg Uncertainty, what we thought was old sets is actually a peep into the future of new sets, and the Probability Waveform only collapses when TLG announce what's in the pipeline. :oD

Sorry but I think it's a photograph, not a render. The problem is that they have used too much photoshop

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks great! Just needs some Lupin and Daisuke figures- hmm, I wonder if the old Technic figs are the right scale?

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

Nice model, good price!
I’m back in vehicles after last year’s pass. (hey LEGO, Harley MUST have chrome pieces!!).

Whoever wants model cars there are plastic kits and diecast models in various scales to fit your display and budget. Lego Vehicles are made with bricks, remember?

Gravatar
By in France,

Just doesn’t look right to me.

Lego either totally nail these, like the mustang, or they just don’t- DB5, this

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll buy the polybag equivalent lol...
Like I did with Volkswagen and Earth green Mini...

But it is nice lego!

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

And we’re back to cars with no steering. :-(
I was hoping that, after the Mustang, steering would now become standard for Creator Expert cars.

I won’t buy a car that can’t steer.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Nice, I love the posters! Hopefully the Renault 5 gt turbo is next!

Still the worst in rendering are the recent Overwatch sets

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Don’t get the negativity some people have for this set. But each to their own. For me this works and will get for sure, hopefully with a small discount ;-)

I love that someone else noticed that cute painting and I now have to see if it's available on it's own.

Gravatar
By in South Africa,

I'm surprised to see the negative response, I think it looks really good. It'll look great next to my Mini and VW Camper. Now we just have to wait for the Citroen 2CV.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it looks fantastic. It looks just like a 60s Fiat 500. I would love to know why all the designs are from the 60s. Maybe I missed an interview with the designers somewhere along the line, but it was a really good time for design.

There’s always a vocal minority who hates these because they don’t look exactly like the car. It’s a toy model, but they still become very angry. The backlash against the DB5 was insane, almost nonsensical.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Must Buy for me!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Haha I absolutely love your take on this! Gave me a smile this morning to go with this adorable lil 500.

By in United Kingdom,

My first reaction was “Ouch!”, but after looking at all the promo images, it actually looks quite nice. Great choice of colour too.

But once again, the box art doesn’t do it justice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pale yellow?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I’ll wait for the mini version of the fiat like the beetle VW, is there one actually?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I like it. It's not necessarily on my list of 'cars I want to see recreated in Lego', but I think it is quite cute. Also, it has a decent enough price (given it's below 1000 pieces) and hopefully doesn't take up too much shelf space :) I'll buy it sooner or later

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this! I think this looks like a fiat 500.

Gravatar
By in France,

So, after looking at all the pictures available, sorry but... I like it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

You have to give Lego credit for not playing it safe with the choice of model. This is definitely a challenging vehicle to model with the brick, but I think it has a certain charm, even if the shaping is blocky. Based on the license plate, I'm guessing this set was designed by Pierre Normandin, not Mike Psiaki. That might be why it doesn't have some of the functional features of the previous sets. It's also clear that Lego is no longer shy about marketing this set directly to adult non-AFOL customers, as witnessed by all the PR in the automotive press.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Creator Expert vehicles are my favorite line so this is a day one purchase for me - off to the lego store tomorrow!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Want it as a completion-ist, Not great, but not bad. Plus with the loco promo starting tomorrow, its a 'buy' for me.

Gravatar
By in Latvia,

This looks great, and the price is quite good. But it will not beat the Mustang

Owned a Spider in the 80s and though the car was free (from parents, used) but wow it was a serious drain on my wallet...in the shop at least 4 times a year. I thought about dropping out of college and becoming a mechanic. Weird that’s when my Dark Age started. Couldn’t buy LEGO either...:O

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well I love the original Fiat 500, but I'm not sure about this. Definitely at the DB5 end of things rather than the Mustang.

Still - there have been plenty of sets that didn't sway me in photos, that look so much better in the plastic, so I'll wait until I've seen it for myself. Love the colour, and I'm really pleased they chose the original version over the current 'reimagining'.

Look at the highlight on the front tire. I think it's a render.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I really don’t get all the negative comments.

This little 500 is cool and the pale yellow is spot on, pure nostalgia.

Can wait to get my hands on this.

"I really don't understand why they use a render and not a photograph for the box art, looks so awkward with all those horizontal lines between the bricks and plates. "

Regardless of whether it's a render or a touched up photograph, I'm quite certain the lines between bricks and plates being visible is intentional. It allows you to better make out the individual parts, which makes the scale and complexity of the build more obvious than it would be if the flat surfaces of the set blended together.

I quite like the subtle curve of the bodywork on this set (achieved by hinging the front and back sections of the car above the wheel arches with hinge plates). The price is good too, especially for so many parts in a fairly rare color (Cool Yellow). I might try to make a Lego store visit in the near future for this, the ISS (which I have yet to get) and a few of the Dots sets.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

It's growing on me. It's not perfect, but it's hard to see how it could be done THAT much better at this scale without some new pieces and such. It also has the misfortune of coming after last year's Mustang, which was about as close to perfection as it gets (that one had like 500 more pieces too though, so not entirely fair).

But what I really want to know is... Where's our Architecture Colosseum set, LEGO?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does it come with the lawnmower that Fiat engine originally came in? ;-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I quite like it, especially the colour choice. Granted it is not perfect, but it is certainly much better than the awful Aston Martin.
Might be the first 2020 LEGO set I am actually interested in buying.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Still don't know why nobody is asking the question, was it not Saabfan & Gabriele Zannotti that did alot of work on Lego Ideas for a Fiat 500 Set? They got the 10k votes, Lego passed in the end and then a year later they release it as a Creator Set. Am I missing something?!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

@dephone First thing which came into my mind when I saw this set: wasn't there a 10k Ideas Fiat 500? Even though there is some kind of disclaimer about similar sets being in development which might lead to "not approved", but at least Saabfan's submission got the 10k in August 2018 (!). Not sure about regular set development times, but this is kinda low (especially when considering the story about the "night mode" lighting kits as displayed by Lego)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Doesn't come with a Lupin III minifigure.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Actually, this one will look great displayed with the VW and Mini. I've been waiting for another model to go with the cute, nostalgic pair I already have. I'm happy the Fiat is released. Not a fan of the other vehicles as they do nothing for me, especially the Aston Martin and Ford.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love it. I didn't expect Fiat and I don't care about Fiat, but I love the model and the color.

@cubo From what I understand Creator Expert sets could be up to 3 years in development time, from the idea to the product on shelf.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Poor addition to what has become a growing theme. Even at the knockdown price of £75 I'm probably will not bother with this unless its bought as a present. Poor styling and a poor choice of car.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Excellent choice!
Together with the Beetle and the Mini the Fiat 500 represent the most iconic trio of car designs.
Each of these designs are so iconic that they with great commercial success have spawned modern retro-designed versions.
I also appreciate that Jamie Berard decides to tackle also difficult curved designs instead of just playing it save with easy renditions of blocky cars like Ferrari F40 and Ford Mustang.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Now this car I like!

The Mustang was cool for a "muscle" car, but I much prefer the charm of this one. Fantastic set and a great addition to car creator series.

Jamie Berard did not design the Mustang. Mike Psiaki designed that as well some of the other Creator Expert cars.

Another thing: the designers themselves would be told what to design, usually based on the market for that set. They don't just decide to on their own.

Really? Fiat 500 is one of the iconic European cars. You call this poor choice of car?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego is offering a trade: fiat for Fiat. That's a deal I can't take because I can't buy every single product they produce (unfortunately), but I would like to say that fiat money is inherently worthless and we should all seek out a truly hard, easily fungible and exchangeable money that offers sovereign-grade censorship resistance.

Set looks great, though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

One of my favorite colors! Instant order. I look forward to seeing it next to the Mini.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know it's incredibly hard to get the shaping right on this Fiat.
The kit looks nice and the engine details, interior just fantastic.
BUT, this iDeas set from a fan designer got the shaping better in my opinion. I'm gonna assume stability issues but look at what he did. I think the shaping all around looks better, especially the top half of the car, around the windows, etc....

^Should've mentioned the fan designer I linked is the same guy who did the Saturn V rocket!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it looks great, but wasn't there already a Fiat 500 on Ideas for the longest time?
