Holiday gift guide: Marvel Mechs
Posted by Huw,
Zander has selected not one but two sets for a combined cost of under $25 for us to consider today:
If you’re looking for one or two sets on a budget, you can’t do better than 76140 Iron Man Mech, with or without 76141 Thanos Mech. At under $10 each or $20 for the pair, they provide loads of fun for your buck.
Any superhero fan – child or adult – is sure to appreciate these two iconic characters from the Marvel Universe. For kids and big kids(!), the mechs have plenty of articulation which children love as well as ‘swooshability’. Each can be held easily one-handed by small hands for plenty of role-play action. What’s more, each mech contains a minifigure that fits in a compartment, another play feature kids are sure to enjoy.
For adults, the Iron Man minifigure in 76140 is uncommon, appearing in only two other but more expensive sets, and the Thanos minifigure is unique to 76141. Both of the mechs have considerable poseability so are great for display.
Because both mechs have the same basic design, they are easily combined, for example, by extending the arms and legs of one mech using parts from the other. So the mechs aren’t just great for role-play and display, they’re also ideal for construction-based play.
These two sets come in boxes that are the same size giving the option of gifting them separately (Christmas eve and day; different days of Diwali, Hanukah or Kwanzaa) or wrapped together as a single present.

Nice I might pick up the iron man mech for parts....
I’m Hoping to get the Thanos Mech soon...
Not being a fan of bigfigs, I consider the Thanos Mech with minifig as essential.
For kids I'd consider the Spiderman Mech. Lots of fun to be had with the webs and probably better known than Thanos
I picked up the three-pack that includes the Iron Man, Thanos, and Spider-Man mechs at Costco. If you’re going for these two, may as well grab Spidey for good measure.
The three pack 66635 seems to be a US only retailer in store promotion for around $20, i.e. obtain the third mech free but availability may be limited. The available secondary market price is more expensive than buying each individually.
I think these sets are fabulous. Thanos and Iron Man were my pick for my nephew's son for Christmas and I am having a hard time not opening them up for myself or giving them to him early. Watching the little fellow play with them will be very entertaining as he does full dialogue and action sounds.
These are great sets and all (especially for the price) but not really for me. If it was a small location build I’d be down but as it stands the Minifigures are the main draw for me, and I already have figs of Iron-Man, Thanos, and Spidey. I’m still satisfied with the Iron Man Mech because it’s close enough to the Hulkbuster and a third (if it’s the new one, make that a quarter) of the price.
I wasn't impressed by these, when the preview pictures came out? But I ended up loving them. I bought the Spider-man set and thought it was brilliant, then the Iron-man one ... and then I picked up the Spider-jet because it came with a four-armed Venom mecha, and that's just so darn cool.
Mishima has a nice Mod for the Thanos mech using 2 kits and some extra parts.
Makes the model more robust.

Just thinking about my collection I’ve got plenty Nexo Knights, Ninjago, Marvel and DC and yet I’ve managed not to buy a single Mech.
If they’d just half the price on those Monkey Kid sets however...
You can get the 3 pack at Costco for $25
