LEGO has just published a video on social media showing a series of 'Harry Potter Moments' sets that will be released early next year and has now also added them to the 'coming soon' page at LEGO.com.

The four sets, which each fold up into a book, feature Hogwarts classrooms: transfiguration, potions, charms and herbology.

By in United States,

Great idea, I love it! We have all four of the Disney version of these books and they were a lot of fun to build and see come together.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

“Collect all four for a 360 degree experience!”

Proceeds to show only three books making up the panorama XD

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Stickers or not?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

These are brilliant, very neat design and fun to integrate into the Hogwarts sets

Looks like. I don't get it--but then, Lego's decisions with skin color are often odd. They've only just corrected Jango Fett/Boba Fett to have darker skin (the same as Cho's skin tone here). Heck, they've even given two different skin tones to the same actor (Jeff Goldblum).

Anyway.

These look really exciting! I loved the smaller Disney Princess versions of these books (my daughter and I got Arendelle, and have had lots of fun with it), so it's cool to see that they're making them bigger.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m glad that LEGO finally made the original appearance Flitwick into a minifigure!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

I love those new POOP book cover elements. And I love the colors they're coming in!

I know, right?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was surprised that the Seamus in 75953 didn't have a sooty face. Nice to see that here. :)

Gravatar

Ooh, an early film style Flitwick.

LEGO, stop making Cho the wrong color...

Like they just couldn't give us a student-uniform variation of one of the Patil twins.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Any obvious way of integrating these with the Hogwarts Castle sets? The castle sets have very small vignettes of some of these classrooms, it would be nice to extend them.

When they fold up into books, do all the accessories and the minifigures fit to anything, or do they just rattle around loose?

Short legs again - can we have some more medium legs please?

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Cool. They look like callbacks to the original 2001 sets, with an innovative twist.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

You can find more official images on stonewars.de
The minifigures are all new since the pupils have new torso prints with house crest. At last Prof. McGonagall has a skirt and hair under her hat.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

First the Disney books such as 43175 and now these - I wonder if any of them would have happened if it wasn't for 21315 Pop-Up Book?

Gravatar
By in United States,

So much ingenuity and great design work gets wasted on the Harry Potter theme... I miss Elves.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Doesn't this early version of Flitwick wear a cap? I'm curious to see if the Series 2 CMF Dumbledore piece can work with Flitwick's beard.

Gravatar
By in France,

Legoleaks, the naked truth : Cho is an other Patil sister !

Short legs make sense if these are meant to be from one of the earlier films (I don’t know if they are either way).

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Probably getting Potions & Herbology for the parts.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Surprised no one has mentioned the subtle new uniform pieces. Nice to see the crests integrated onto the jumpers again, though I'm kind of sad they only gave us 3/4 houses

$40 each - $160 total?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would have absolutely loved these as a kid, they remind of mighty max style toys.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The US Lego site has these listed in the New Arrivals - Coming Soon. 29.99 USD apiece

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Excellent! Don't give two warts about HP but I am digging this idea

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Have got most of the HP sets so far and I have to say I am impressed with these, My daughter is starting to grow out of HP and Lego but I will be more then willing to continue collecting them im sure.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

How much? 40 dollars for less than 200 pieces?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was expecting these to use the same "book" pieces as the Disney Princess line. I don't know if these are any better or worse, but it seems odd to produce two entirely different big new molds for essentially the same purpose. Perhaps these new book covers will be used as roof parts (or something else) in the future? They do seem more versatile than the previous mold.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow. These look amazing

Gravatar
By in United States,

@lynels said:
"How much? 40 dollars for less than 200 pieces?"

Huh? I’m not sure where you got either of those, they’re $30, not $40, and they all have greater than 230 parts, so it’s not that bad, especially considering the massive plates for the covers.

Beyond that, I like how these look, but I also like that LEGO is doing sudden reveals like this more often. We don’t have to depend on low quality accidental postings on random shops as often as before! I hope they do this kind of thing for every theme, it makes things much better.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

Lovely sets! Also very reasonable that these can be bought separately, instead of one expensive set (a HP equivalent of a Death Star/Cloud-City playset)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I truly don't like that they gave Cho dark skin. I am asian and most asian people I know are pretty pale. I mean look at Kpop Jpop, and Cpop. Even in the movies she had pretty pale skin.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised nobody has mentioned the new style uniform sweater torso that has the house emblem and different styling for the neck/tie.

This wave gives Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin so hopefully Hufflepuff isn’t far behind

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do they fold up into... books?

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Looking at the high res images it seems the minifigs won't fit inside while closed. Kind of misleading then in that video when the kids put the books in their bags.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think the biggest improvement I see here is that McGonagall finally gets hair under her hat!

That said, I'm having difficulty getting excited for these. I want to like them, but just... they don't really appeal to me on a personal level. Maybe I'd feel differently if we were getting some new student characters to go with them, but repeats of the same characters, just with subtly different torso prints (is the only difference the wider ties and addition of house crests? Not seeing a whole lot of change otherwise) aren't very interesting to me.

I'm not saying these aren't great for their intended audience, because I'm sure kids will love them; and the idea of making them self-contained is great! They're just not something that appeals to me, on a personal level, is all ^^

Gravatar
By in United States,

That potion bottle in the Transfiguration room is reminding me a lot of LEGO Dimension's cliffhanger cutscene. I won't spoil that for ya'll who haven't played it, but let's just hope the Hogwarts students don't accidentally re-summon him!

As for these sets, I think they're great! I hope they aren't over $20 each because this is an excellent alternative if one can't quite afford the Hogwarts buildings yet. You get a pretty reasonably sized room, some characters, and plenty of neat parts to boot.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Whilst these look great it does seem to be a cunning way to make structures even shallower. They have height but little depth. The inability to add classrooms on to existing hogwarts buildings is a major miss.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe just take a plastic bag for the figures? That's what I used to do as a kid.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just seen all four on Instagram... I look forward to buying them!! Ado hope this isn't it for HP in 2021 I wanna see a few more sets, I,e Gringotts and an updated shrieking shack!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

76384 Herbology Class looks like a nice parts pack. Im gonna buy this one asap!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Could that book cover not have been made with just ordinary plates and hinges? I don't see the need for new molds like that. Although, to be fair, I guess they have flat surfaces on the underside for stickers/prints that would have been difficult to create otherwise.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks to Hidden Side and Monkie Kid I haven't collected a lot of Harry Potter this last year. These might just change that...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like the way they have included some Lego with the stickers. They look great until you realise a lot of detail isn’t brick built, but I suppose they need to keep the costs down as Harry Potter is a niche market and won’t sell by the bucket load.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I wish these where in the same scale and style as this years Disney ones, these are cool but tbh I think I prefer the Disney ones. Would have loved to had seen a Harry Potter fig in that mini-mini fig style.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Looks fun but I hope LEGO will stop putting stickers in their products, there are "other brands" who are cheaper and have all printed bricks and no stickers. There is no reason the top brand should have them.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

These are great! Great pieces, usefull stickers and good minifig pieces!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is there something wrong with the dark-tan wand sprue that they’ve accumulated enough that are missing a wand that they could work them into a set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There are clips showing being advertised for 30 euros and 19 Jan release in Europe. So would assume $30 in US. Interesting idea, to use the four books to create four adjoining classrooms, although the lack any base plates is a shame and the main walls are really large tiles with stickers rather than the Hogworth arches and brick work we enjoy so much in the current sets. Looking at the previous classrooms, 4721 seems a rather simple accessory set but was only $10, whereas slightly more building structure was present in 4752 for $20. Maybe I’m missing the novelty angle of using books, but it makes me wonder could 4 adjacent classrooms be created for $120 with traditional Hogworth brick walls, windows and door arches all on a large baseplate as I don't see my kids tidying up all the pieces every evening!

Harry Potter may not outsell Star Wars but those are the only two licensed themes that have multiple sets priced at 400 or more USD. Harry Potter is not Minions or Trolls or Angry Birds. It is clear the TLG values the IP and is willing to make a long-term investment in it.

Actually the descriptions were leaked over a month ago, we had prototype images leak a few weeks ago and we also had McGonnagall leak :P

While the skin tone for Cho Chang may not be accurate, it is consistent with the previous figures, and it is nice to get a younger female face in that skin tone for custom figures!

Oh, I know, but I mean the official images that usually leak this time of year. Instead of getting 2 crappy pics for each, we can get these high-quality press releases that include all the information and details that we want.

If I had to guess, the plan is to eventually make this a much more common practice, and hope that the early official reveals will slowly kill of the want for leaks as time goes on.

Since we're going to drag this horse out and beat it again, I'll say the same thing that I usually do

If we had the option for every design ever to be either a sticker or a print, I'd choose sticker hands down. It makes pieces so much more versatile when you don't have a super specific design that you can't remove. It helps to think outside of the (set) box. If every stickered piece here was printed, the pieces would be so much more limited in their use. Having designs as stickers enables you to apply them if you want, or apply them to a different piece outside of this set, or not apply them at all and just build it clean. So much more freedom and potential for creativity.

By in Puerto Rico,

I love that Herbology class.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are great, but I would not be disappointed with a DADA classroom with professor Lupin.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Flitwick looks almost like a cheap kitbash. McGonnagall's new hat is nice, but Flitwick needed the new hair/beard/hat mold more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know that a lot of people on the internet don’t like Harry Potter (and I’m not the hugest fan of the author) but I’m still kind of confused by the mixed reaction to these. Maybe the builds are a bit shallow inside, but they could serve as pretty good display pieces when closed up. That’s not really my shtick, though, I’m just happy that we’re getting more complete and affordable builds for the classrooms. If these go on discount I’m probably getting all of these but Transfiguration, that one doesn’t interest me that much honestly.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are those back wall pieces the new road plates?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A small gripe but I kinda wish they had used the opportunity to make Professor Sprout without her earmuffs and given her removable round-the-neck muffs like the two students, to have an alternative mould from the Collectible Minifigures version and it would make the hat-and-hair piece more versatile as well.

Gravatar

Not interested in Harry Potter, so I doubt I will pick these up, but these are still really good interesting parts. My brother used to have the some of the original HP sets and I still find myself using the classroom pieces in my MOCs.

Gravatar

Reddish brown hinge plates in 76384!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

These don’t look bad, I’ll see if I can pick one or two up.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Harry Potter purchases are an exception rather than the rule for me (simply do not have the room to collect all the Lego sets I like !), however, this one will be added to my list - I must admit I prefer them displayed as the "books" though !

Gravatar
By in United States,

They turn into books, that's brilliant! Not only a neat play feature but also fits thematically: it's like magic!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

I'm very pleased they brought back the chests to the uniform sweaters, but I'd have liked if they had added the house Sigills on them as well, like the original 2001 ones.

Expanding on that point, having stickers instead of prints means you can use the stickers in your own MOCs for extra lil details even the smallest of parts can't reach - stuff like posters, texture detail and the like. I've got a ziploc baggie full of em for that specific reason, and they've saved my bacon quite a number of times when trying to fill empty space in custom builds!

As for the actual sets in question, I think the designers have done a pretty bang-up job with em but I can't say I'll be buying them personally - still don't feel comfortable with my money going towards you-know-who to be honest. I'll definitely be briclinking any interesting new parts and taking a flick through the instructions once they're out to see what makes the folding mechanism tick though!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Skip... I like these sets but I don't think they're very displayable. It's interesting how varied the figures are, not sure I like the updated Severus or Philosopher's Stone Flitwick but McGonagall looks so much better with the new skirt piece and hair/hat combo. Overall, will probably bricklink the figures like I did with some of the Star Wars sets this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very disappointed but at least I will save money on LEGO Harry Potter next year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They look fantastic as closed-up books. If you haven’t seen the other pictures, do yourself a favor!

Didn’t think I’d like these, but I was wrong!!! Going to have to look at the Disney ones with fresh eyes!!!

Gravatar

That said, I hope Lego does still provide expansions to the big castle sets.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll be very disappointed if this is all we get in the Harry Potter theme next year. I'm hoping for more sets that fit in with the rest of the regular sets (Hogwarts, Diagon Ally, etc). I was hoping we'd get a new Shrieking Shack, Gringotts or Hogsmeade.

Just because these are the only sets that have been announced, so far, is it likely that more won't be announced later?

Gravatar

Quite expensive for HP sets.
But at a discount they will make nice parts packs.

Alot of people, judging by the quite good prior sales history. The Hogwarts sets also currently are the only castleish things and work quite well as "Real Life castles" if you rebuild them. Also the only REALLY sucessful theme right now that isnt Star Wars

Gravatar
By in United States,

Not a fan of HP, but I am tempted by the book design as I love books. The two Disney friends sets that I had this year were good, if a little quick to build. Its nice that they use stickers as it allows for customisation into themes that lego don't cover.

Might pick these up on a discount as £30 x 4 is too much of a spend for a non HP fan. Much like the castle being too pricy for the same reason, though I'd consider it on discount because I would really like another lego castle.

Hope this branches out into other lego themes and they explore other authors.

I may be mistaken, but it looks like Brickset has placeholder numbers for at least 11 more HP sets in 2021.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Small vignettes with an interesting feature that are nicely evocative of their subject matter. I think this is a great way to add classrooms to Harry Potter while keeping costs down.

Also, TWO of these sets don't have main characters in them. That's GREAT!!! Now if you get multiple sets you can have full classrooms with different characters.

Looks like the Fat Friar to me, the Hufflepuff ghost.

I'm suspecting the portraits in Transfiguration are the design team - top one is definitely Marco Bessa.

Also, a shame they don't repeat the house logos in the same style as Griffyndor over the whole range.

Gravatar

I like the Ghostbusters /Pumpkin one best. I think it's a brilliant crossover to have the Ghostbusters crash into Hogwarts and trash the place. "Muggle this, you old witch!"

That is the Fat Friar I believe, Ghost of Hufflepuff House if I remember correctly

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really find the gimmick delightful here - the idea of unfolding a brick built book is adorable and very fitting for the "LEGO Harry Potter" theme, and it's a nice way to keep the sets compact for storage, which is a good concern to have.

That said, my inner collector is mildly annoyed that Transfiguration and Charms' classrooms haven't been represented in the Castle sets to my knowledge (I'm behind collecting them) and would have loved to see a few bigger classrooms that attached in a modular fashion to the main castle, and this feels like a confirmation those sorts of sets won't happen. The Greenhouse and Potions are accounted for, but it'd be nice to have a space like that there. I do wish LEGO would return to the 2001-04 formula of building Hogwarts classrooms and buildings that can be 'stacked' and not merely the connectible towers.

I'm also excited to see a classic Flitwick, something I was certain we'd never see, an improved McGonagall... it's a shame the kids are all faces we already have though. I understand making sure each set has a keystone character like Draco, Harry or Hermione, but Seamus, Cho and Cedric are already out there and it might've been nice to see a few more unique students.

...but the new uniforms with the crests/badges back are the most mixed of mixed blessings. I've always preferred that design, harkening to the 2001-02 and 2010-11 incarnations of the theme, and was disappointed they dropped it in the revival... but ugh, I don't want to have to buy fifty of these now to retrofit all the characters again, especially not until we see a Hufflepuff torso to fit. I hope they stop introducing new uniform variations for a while and try to include some more unique characters.

I sound complainey but I'm overall actually rather happy with this range and look forward to collecting them.
