Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 21
Posted by CapnRex101,
Some fantastic Yule Ball scenery has emerged from 75981 Harry Potter Advent Calendar and hopefully this trend might continue during the concluding days.
Let's open the next door and find out...
This microphone and music stand are extremely simple, although they complement the piano which arrived on day seventeen. Furthermore, I think the traditional microphone design, rather than using the standard accessory, works perfectly for the Harry Potter theme. The microphone stand is the correct height for minifigures with medium legs, reflecting the figures in this Advent Calendar.
The printed musical score is splendid too, having only appeared in three Disney sets before now. The colour combination of metallic gold and black looks good and I like the trans-light blue, trans-clear and white stand, matching the Yule Ball colour scheme which has appeared throughout this calendar. These notes represent the first two bars of When You Wish Upon A Star, from Pinnochio and the beginning of each Disney movie!
Overall - 4.0 - These models are small but match previous items from the Advent Calendar and feature some interesting parts.

A bit simple, but they are nice pieces.

The scores are always subjective. This is worthy of a 4.0 to me because I did not have the printed music tile, until now.
I rather like these. The builds are well executed and look terrific. Even though the parts are few (mine had nine parts and two spares), they are all very useful and some are uncommon.
I'm disappointed by the lack of nerdy nitpickery which I've come to expect and appreciate from @CapnRex101! There wasn't a normal microphone at the Yule Ball, but the special moulded megaphone piece that S1 Flitwick had as his accessory. I bemoan the lack of lamentation at its exclusion (although I do think this build looks better than the special piece and is worthy of a 4.0).
Are the scores for the default Disney theme?
Should've been a new print with the first notes to the Harry Potter theme. That would've put it over the top!
No hope of Jarvis Cocker I suppose. Can anyone suggest minifigure pieces to build him?
Can you dance like a hippogriff? Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma!
Flying off from a cliff? Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma!

Yeah, but it’s Disney music in a WB set. It’s like giving Batman a shield with a star on it.
@J0rgen:
It actually bugged me that they didn’t use the actual microphone piece until I read your comment. This looks similar to Flitwick’s Cone of Loudness accessory, but it can be attached to the clip element that’s included. There isn’t an easy way to mount the other part in a post, so this might have been a “best I can manage” solution. If they used the flickfire bar with an Apollo stud on top, they actually could have attached the other cone, but then it probably would have been taller than Flitwick. Round bricks/plates/cones could have worked, but then the stand would have been super bulky. This really seems like the best solution possible without cutting new molds.

I do wonder what Warner Bros. would think if they were aware that Disney music appears in their Harry Potter product. I suppose they have bigger problems at the moment!

Maybe this is what they had to do to get the Star Wars cameo in The Lego Movie? :)
@CapnRex101:
Nothing is a bigger problem than Disney hoovering up all of Hollywood, and anything that gives them even a specious excuse to file a lawsuit is cause for worry. Disney was big enough to not care if they were right _before_ they bought Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Fox.
@TheOtherMike:
Disney got their meathooks into Lucasfilm in 2012, but the FTC didn't drop the ball on the Fox buyout until after TLM was released. Fox owned the physical rights to Ep4 outright, though Disney was slated to pick up the digital distribution rights sometime this year.
