Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 23

Posted by ,

Our sixth character was revealed yesterday so I anticipate two small models occupying the final two windows of the Advent Calendar, which has proven outstanding thus far.

Hopefully that standard continues...

Christmas presents appear in the majority of LEGO Advent Calendars and these colourful designs correspond with each Hogwarts house. Similar wrapped presents were available with 75946 Harry Potter Advent Calendar during 2019, although these are distinguished by Gryffindor's gift which is evidently a broomstick! This parcel looks marvellous, although Harry receives his new Firebolt at Christmas during The Prisoner of Azkaban, rather than The Goblet of Fire.

The remaining presents are more traditional, although I appreciate their varied shapes. Those wrapped with the Slytherin and Hufflepuff colours are both angular while the Ravenclaw parcel comprises round elements. The 1x1 clips which form bows look excellent and I love the printed envelope which is connected to the wrapped broomstick, returning from the last calendar.

Overall - 5.0 - Once again, the Harry Potter Advent Calendar has elevated an existing concept, yielding four presents which appear perfect for the Wizarding World!

Was I the only one that thought the wrapped broomstick was a giant pen at first glance?

I expected these to be tomorrow’s build.
From what I can remember tomorrow’s build will be a slightly underwhelming

The broomstick is obviously a Prisoner of Azkaban thing, I wonder if the hatbox shaped Ravenclaw present is a reference to the diadem

This is by far my favourite Lego Advent Calendar (I missed out on the HP one last year), despite the duplication of figures, there are lots of little playable bits which fit in with previous kits

Maybe when Harry and Ron were torqued off at each other, Harry gave Ron his broken broom.

@Wobette :
That’s hard to imagine in the US. There were tons that went on clearance right before Christmas.

I thought it was a musical instrument to go with the music stand...

A while ago, I remember the question was raised in another article's comments of whether anything in the Harry Potter Lego theme had been based directly on content from the books, rather than the movies. I think this might just be the most prominent example: Harry receiving his firebolt broom as a Christmas present, which this appears to be referencing, only happened in the book version of Prisoner of Azkaban; in the movie its arrival was just the very final scene, without the Christmas wrapping depicted here.

Though since the firebolt was sent anonymously, I'm a little at a loss to explain the letter attached to it xD

This is a neat little collection of builds.

@ThatBionicleGuy:
The first broom arrived as a gift, even if it wasn’t on Christmas, didn’t it?

A nice variety of builds, and all four houses in one say, when they could have easily gotten away with splitting this up over 2 days. A good day.
