Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 22

Posted by ,

Three days remain in 75981 Harry Potter Advent Calendar and I am hoping that every unrevealed item will prove as appealing as those which have emerged thus far.

Let's open the door and find out...

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley have both appeared already so Hermione Granger's arrival was inevitable! This minifigure looks absolutely marvellous, featuring an outstanding hair component that returns from 75948 Hogwarts Clock Tower. Such intricate detail is unrivalled and reflects the onscreen character's hairstyle perfectly. A hole to accommodate an accessory is included on top but no hair accessories are provided.

Hermione's pink dress appears similarly authentic, featuring layers of pink and magenta fabric which correspond with the source material. I am especially pleased with the elegant ruffles that continue onto the 1x2 brick which forms the lower section of Hermione's dress, ensuring that all six minifigures available with this Advent Calendar are exactly the same height.

The double-sided head incorporates smiling and angry expressions which might typically seem unsuitable for the Yule Ball, although these designs reflect Hermione's emotions as the evening continues. A dark tan wand is supplied, along with a separate sprue which increases the total to three spares.

Overall - 4.5 - Despite appearing once before, this Hermione Granger minifigure looks incredible and I welcome her return!

At least they didn’t use her for day 24. I’m assuming we’ll get the presents on that day.
I do find her hair so large to the point it’s comical.

I don't like this figure very much. It looks a bit cheap. That 1-2 brick at the bottom only being printed on one side doesn't help.

I have gotten double the number of wands for each of the figures. Is that true for everyone? Or am I just lucky?

I'm thinking we'll get the Triwizard cup on day 24

Yep double the wands for me as well

You mean the sprue holding two wands? Because that's just how they always come.

No, I've been receiving 4 wands with each minifig.

I, too have gotten three extra wands for each character.

This calendar is putting the other three to shame...

Harry and Ron should be all smiles with facial expressions. You have a Yule Ball with two guys and four girls. Getting Cho is nice, but I do wonder if it would have been better for Hermoine to have her date so it would even out.

Krum is in the Clock Tower set though, so having him would be another repeat character unlike with Cho

Judging by the box art we’ll get gifts and and a wrapped broom tomorrow then who knows in the 24th? I hope it isn’t the Triwozard cup. I’d love a festive Dobby although that’s unlikely. Maybe Dumbledore in a Santa hat?

I just saw the movie (again) yesterday and was sort of waiting for this minifig :)

@Darth_TNT:
It would be nice if they printed both the brick and plate on both sides (or a new midi skirt with print on four sides). But I ran the numbers and figured out that there are already 100 paint applications just on these six minifigs, a lot of which is unique to this set. Then there are eight more prints (five on just the Yule Ball poster), and the egg is painted gold. It would take at least another dozen print applications to give just the four bricks a two-sided print.

@Rob42:
Last year you got one sprue per minifig in the HPAC, but this year you get two sprues (four wands) per minifig, which is enough that you can turn the sands into a second, lame, advent calendar).

They worked hard to find this hairpiece, as it first appeared in 71004 in 2014, and as far as I can tell has only been used there and in these two HP sets since.

edit: upon further review, it also appeared in one other collectable minifigure set: the queen from 71011-17

The top half of her outfit looks too much like a sheer negligee. All kinds of wrong.

The only downside to this Advent Calendar that I can think of is that - when combined with the Clock Tower set - it leaves Fleur as the only character/champion without their corresponding date.

I have to say that the Harry Potter advent calendar is head and shoulders above the rest this year

@Natfire125 I made what I consider a very good Roger Davies (Fleur's date) with the torso from my spare Harry (he wears the same kind of dress robes), the head from my CMF Cedric, and Neville's hair from the new CMF/Clocktower.

I too made a Roger Davies with the Harry from the Clock Tower, an extra head I had, and Rex Dangervest's hair. So now I have all four Champions and their dates dancing on the dance contraption that came with the Clock Tower.

With four girls in dresses in this set, I'm really annoyed that they didn't think to print both sides of the blocks -_-

At this point in 2020 we all should be numb to disappointment LOL... I think?

Cheers!
