Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 18

Posted by ,

75279 Star Wars Advent Calendar has continued to impress and yesterday's Pit Droid was among my favourite gifts thus far. Maintaining this high standard might prove difficult.

Nevertheless, I remain hopeful...

Unsurprisingly, the frozen planet of Hoth has appeared in almost every LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar and Snowspeeders have been available twice previously. This model shares its fundamental design with both earlier renditions, featuring 2x3 wedge plates and similar laser cannons on each occasion. However, there have also been some interesting updates, including the harpoon launcher which is adjustable and represents an improvement upon the models from 2011 and 2014.

The design produced during 2014 featured tiny engine nacelles behind both laser cannons and I think a case could be made for their inclusion here, although the protruding section of this 4L bar behind the clip works quite nicely. The orange highlight is certainly welcome and I like the cockpit canopy too. The nose remains imperfect but the current selection of available parts provides few opportunities for improvement at this scale, in my opinion.

Overall - 4.0 - This model captures various important features of the Snowspeeder but its shape still deviates somewhat from the original craft.

Have bought the calendar for the past 6 years.
This was the first time I was missing parts and thus couldn’t complete it.
Missing about half the pieces.

My daughter got an extra penguin in her Friends Calendar, so as a family we are at least all square.

I think this is one of the better snowspeeders they’ve done at this scale

This is another one of those models where the reviews would benefit from showing prior versions next to the original.

I have all three AC Snowspeeders to date side-by-side, and they all look *just* similar enough to work well together, and *just* different enough that the differences stick out all the same. This one does lack the 4-wide SNOT piece in the rear which allowed for two engines on each side, so the back looks a little plain.

Can't really focus on commenting. Too revved up about the Mandalorian!

Enough of this. The model has nothing to do with the Mandalorian and the finale is barely 10 hours old, don't let this thread devolve into spoilers.

Cool build. Solid 4.25.

I don’t know if I do like it or if I do not.

@ResIpsaLoquitur:
If they moved the guns back a bit; you could stick some Apollo studs on the back ends.

True, although consulting a more scaled-up Snowspeeder, the guns really do extend the length of the ship. I think the biggest flaw is that the cannons aren't that consistently exposed on a "real" ship. If something masked the middle of the bar pieces, it might look better.

My calendar contained an extra bag of parts for Anakin’s podracer! Woo for extra parts! Lol
