Two new Batman sets have been revealed on the website of a Vietnamese retailer's website: 76188 Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile and 76180 Batman vs. The Joker Batmobile Chase.

The former comes complete with Batman and the Joker in their classic attire, while the latter is rated 4+ and contains Batman, Batgirl, and The Joker minifigures.

They could at least have given us Robin in the classic Batmobile >:(

Gravatar
By in United States,

I may pick this up as it's not a bad classic Batmobile representation at that scale. I like the display stand option but the fact it's 40433 counterpart was limited and now unavailable at anything other than ridiculous prices is kinda disappointing.

By in Ireland,

My heart! The 66 Batmobile is such a beautiful build! I can’t wait to get it as I missed out on the D2C! Speaking of which it’s a shame there’s no new characters or even a Robin from that series here. Maybe if it’s successful we can get a second set with Kitt’s Catwoman and Craig’s Batgirl!

Speaking of Batgirl I’m shocked she’s in that Juniors set! The builds look good considering how few pieces they use, but still not my cup of tea. I’m definitely skipping this one!

Gravatar
By in United States,

76180 is definitely a leading contender for the Best Batmobile award.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think giving us the '66 mobile in a standalone set is a wonderful idea. It's a very iconic design in general and it gives a whole nother audience a chance to own it who missed out on the huge and expensive Batcave from several years ago

this makes me want to go on bricklink and buy him but his price is gonna go up because he isn't included

Gravatar

HOLY AFFORDABLE BATMOBILE, BATMAN!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice! Saves me from Bricklinking the one from 76052

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Almost everything perfect on the 66 Batmobile... why not include Robin???

Still I'll get it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The 4+ one is a pass for me, but the other one looks awesome with the original Joker minifigure, if price is reasonable then it’s going in the basket! You’d have to spray me with Shark Repellent not to buy it...

By in Colombia,

I NEED that Batmobile, Day one purchase.

Now we need the large scale version

Gravatar
By in United States,

If anyone has questions I can read the Vietnamese website for more info, but basically:
76188 Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile : 1049000VND or about $45
76180 Batman vs. The Joker Automobile Chase: 929,000 VNÐ or about $40

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Two figs in the Batmobile and they give us Joker? Come on, Lego, I get the whole play value thing but realistically you know who's buying this set and it's not kids XD

Fingers crossed we get '66 Robin in a polybag!

Gravatar
By in Norway,

76188 is basically a new Speed Champions Batmobile. Nice!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Slightly frustrated that I only very recently Bricklinked the classic batmobile!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Other than Batman not having Dual-moulded legs and the absence of Robin, 76188 looks to be one of the best mining-scale Batmobiles of recent years. Including tiles to replace the stud shooters with is a great touch, too.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully this is a sign that they might (just might) be considering a UCS '66 Batmobile. Preferably to the same scale as the 76139 '89 Batmobile. Would be great to be able to display them side by side...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Classic Batmobile is a must buy as I love that car.
Still praying to the gods of LEGO for a UCS version to go with the Tumbler and Keaton's 1989 version.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What a stunning build for that Batmobile. Hopefully it gets released as part of the April wave that includes the Batman Cowl. Does anyone have any idea when this might get released?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holy illegal connection Batman! (I know it’s been used before, but rarely.)

I'm also happy to see an affordable 66 Batmobile and have a wish for more Batman 66 Lego.
So I hope it sells really well.
I feel I've done my part by buying the 76052 set. ;-)
But I'll gladly buy any new figures and sets.

You mean the gold grill piece in the clip?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Maybe they're planning on releasing a new helicopter as well with the classic Robin with it

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 60s show—by far the best Batman ever.

Disagree? Come fight me. And I’ll call Adam west to come do some kapows to your face. Of course he’s still alive—just look at his minifigure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

76188 looks really cool, but I personally always associate The Penguin as the core baddie in the classic TV series rather than The Joker.
Quick check: 8 appearances vs 9 respectively.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love how on the classic Cesar Romero Joker mini-figure, if you look closely at the face, they've actually included his heavily make-up covered mustache.

The classic 66 Batmobile is a must buy for my lego Batman collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Must have both sets! (I read once that the Penguin appeared more times than the Joker on the show.)

You've miscounted somewhere as they actually have equal appearances in the show.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Such a shame Robin isn't included, but looks a great set otherwise.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm almost surprised that 76188 isn't an 18+ set given how frequently that branding has been dished out to products lately

Gravatar
By in United States,

While I am pleased with more Batman sets, I am a bit saddened at the lack of 1966 Batgirl. I thought I had read somewhere that it was going to be a 3 minifigure set, with her included. Oh well. Fingers crossed for down the road.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, at least they gave us a new version of Batgirl, so this isn’t a total bust.

Goes away, checks another source

Quite right, 20 each.

Gravatar
By in Romania,

Maybe I shouldn't have bought the '66 Batman and Joker figs separately, though I did get them for a decent less than 10 bucks each.

But I'm glad I didn't get the bat truck seeing that Batgirl is in one of these sets and in a magazine.

Tiles and grills are slightly shorter than regular plates, so they can go in a clip without stressing it (also the clips have been ever so slightly redesigned so there's more leeway). So nothing illegal here

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Classic Batmobile is great!
Now give us an Batman the Animated Series Batmobile and I will truly be happy! That is the Batmobile of my youth - as I grew up watching that show - and so therefore my favorite Batmobile!

this would fix my main gripe with the set, no robin

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I love both especially the 66 batmobile however there is so many others lego could produce from that series I,e the Batboat, a more detailed Bat copter, jokers hotrod, Catmobile and Yvonne Craig's bat motorcycle, maybe the penguins Submarine from the TV movie which should include Commidor Schmidlapp..

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

YESSSS, finally a New 52 Batgirl in another set!!! I’m collecting Batgirls and that’s one of the two I’m missing, purely because of the high prices for the loose fig. Hopefully that price will go down when this set releases!

Also it seems like I’m the only one excited for that set, but honestly I’ve never cared about or had any experience with the classic show so it simply doesn’t mean anything to me.

Gravatar

That Batmobile is a day one purchase.

Agreed, I've bricklinked parts to make figures of all the other heroes and villains from the show, but that Batgirl costume really needs to be done right.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't do that many licensed sets, but I really do dig that classic Batmobile! But, Robin is missing. Both of the Corgi versions done years ago have featured versions of him molded into the seats.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At least we won't have to buy the whole 76052 batcave now to obtain the car. I'm just surprised never released on its own before apart from the strange looking SDCC 2014 version.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The 66 Batmobile will look good next to the Delorean, Mystery Machine, and Ecto-1's. Now I'm going to have to MOC a micro version to go along with it as I've got all the Dimensions micro version of the other cars.

Gravatar
By in Costa Rica,

This iconic batmobile I reckon is a must in my collection, nevertheless LEGO, thank you for yet another batman in the wall, this is getting beyond ridiculous having such a variety of characters in the DC world they have to come out with just another Batman...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll definitely be getting the classic 66 Batmobile.

Shame it uses stickers on the doors and not prints. Not sure about the hub caps. Those could be prints.

I've seen a few mentions of the Batcopter, but what about... the Batboat? ??

And of course the Batgirl Cycle.

40433 is super easy to build without buying the set and the only thing you'll be missing is the sticker. I made 5 versions in different colorways...

I came into comments to say this...and was pleased that so many other people had the same thought.

Forget Joker and put Robin in instead. Nobody wants Joker in this set at the expense of Robin. Everyone needs Robin in the Batmobile next to Batman!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the lack of Robin. You give the people who may have clamored for the 66 sled from the set but you can’t give everything away...this also doesn’t screw the loyalists who paid the green for the full set so they are the ones who got the full minifigure load.

Works for me totally.

By in Greece,

I’m just hoping this set and 40433 means Lego are starting a range of vehicles from the Batman pantheon. They’re both iconic and they both have display stands - if they are count me in!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Where’s Robin???

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Oh yes, another great Classic TV series Batmobil. Love it. Funnily enough, I still haven't gotten around to building my 76052 with its version of this vehicle. At least I can use the Robin from that one to complete this new edition.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like many people have said, the biggest mistake is without Robin. Wonder the difference of this and the one in the classic Batcave set. Now wish they make a UCS classic Batmobile.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@fakespacesquid:
The clip redesign had nothing to do with it. Mostly it’s the groove on the bottom edge of the tile that makes it “legal” when a standard plate is not.

@mr_Fikou:
The New 52 costume is black with gold trim. I believe this is her Rebirth costume. Some of the images I was able to pull up show her without a full cowl. Instead, she had her hair down with tiny bat ears poking up.

@sjr60:
I’m really getting tempted to mod this crashed into a flaming dumpster...

Sorry for my vagueness. The tusken raider village set. I ordered it day one because of the Mando figure, and Grogu. The rest of the set was meh, but those figs were too good to miss.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Oh wow! I paid so much money for the Batmobile from the Batcave set from someone who parted it out. It didn't come with the figs, but I did get the Batcopter too, which is a great minifig scale representation of the real-world Bell 47 helicopter.

I'm glad to see it becoming available in a cheaper variant, so that more people can buy one for themselves.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Not in my basket but man that 66 car will be a hot seller.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Not impressed with the forced stud shooters on the 66 Batmobile especially considering the real life version don't have any. Also I wish 66 Batgirl is included since she is pretty much the only major character not in the 2016 release, and she existed in video game form already.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Nana, nana, Nana, nana, MUST BUY...um; where was I...oh yeah: While I prefer my Batmobiles in black (or at least "Very dark Grey"...:)), the '66 version is one of 'the exceptions' (other include the early '80's Batmobile in dark blue, and the 'Batman: Brave and the Bold' Batmobile, which had a very '66 vibe to it)(oh, also noted exception:
https://comicbook.com/dc/news/batman-66-batmobile-dark-knight-tumbler-mashup/ )
Something about the red trim on these cars doesn't feel forced (COUGH:BATWOMAN:COUGH)...plus this is week after I re-watched "Batman: The Return of the Caped Crusader", one of two animated movies w/Adam West and Burt Ward reprising their roles as the iconic characters, at least in an animated format.

That said...yesh, that 4+ set looks like an undersized fish (in other words: throw it back). Yes I know the 'audience' are the kids movin' on from Duplo...But...really? On top of that: I know the Batgirl is based on her current 'look', but I really don't like it. Babs (or Barbara Gordon, if you prefer) has had much better costumes than this (at least the artist should given her more of a Hunteress type mask, to give a more bat-effect)...

At any rate, please excuse me: gotta' see if atomic batteries are to power, and turbines are to speed:).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad to see the 1966 show wasn't a one-off. I hope it sticks around to put the rest of the characters more affordably into our hands.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

76188 a definite YES. Too bad about Robin.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

Another perfect batmobile. And 4+ batmobile is good too.

Lego why you doing this?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Something just occurred to me.

We got some sets of the 89 Batmobile, one as a GWP 40433, then the comic style variant loosely inspired by but purchase-able, 76119, and a sort of watered down junior looking variation, 76139...all in 2019 when the UCS 89 Batmobile came out.

Is this a sign of a larger scale UCS 66 Batmobile, maybe 76240, coming down the road?

Wishful thinking? :)

Gravatar
By in Finland,

The additional images (not yet on Brickset) show 1x2 slope tiles attached to 2x2 plates, I believe they are meant to replace the stud shooters for a better look.

They also show a stand and a plaque, similar to the 1989 Batmobile GWP! (unfortunately without spots for the figs)

It was used in 70422 in 2019 as well (in a shade of blue).

Gravatar
By in United States,

Has anyone seen that the set comes with pieces to replace the stud shooters? There are two slopes that finish the hood, and fit neatly into the trunk.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Out of pure curiosity I wondered if it would pay off to sell my unbuilt 76052 Batcave when I got this set, but nope - lots of BL sellers has it at around 200e (slightly more than I paid for mine at 40% off), while for instance the lamented (and marginally cheaper) 75098 Insult on Hoth is mostly listed between 300 and 400e. I really wonder why the Batcave set is so poorly regarded, especially since it kinda forms a single structure and has lots of unique elements, rather than feeling like a combo pack of previously released sets.

I've been wondering if sets like Hoth (ie. an unpopular set in an otherwise popular series) has some investment potential, as many will skip it when it's available but will then later want to fill the hole in their collections. OTOH I imagined that quite a few people would buy it just to have it in their collection but leave it unopened (leading to lots of MISB sets being available later), but that doesn't seem to be the situation in this case.

"HOLY LEGO SETS BATMAN!

Now THAT's what I'm talking about! THESE are the DC sets I've been looking forward to for 2021!

Sure, Robin should be included with the Batmobile. Sure, Batgirl should get a better vehicle than a skateboard. Sure, we should get some other DC sets based on characters other than Batman (The Snyder Cut just got released, so could we maybe some new Justice League sets with Black Suit Superman minifigures please?)

But aside from that, I am definitely adding both of these sets to my collection!"

Lego doesn't do Snyder Cut sets because it's R-rated. They are also likely hesitant to release a black-suit Superman as they've already done one for San Diego Comic-Con. A new solar suit Superman would have to be significantly different from the previous to preserve the original's exclusiveness.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Slithus_Venom:
Minor variance is all that’s needed (in fact, the first Venom minifig used the torso from the SDCC exclusive Secret Wars Spiderman). Look at the 2012 SDCC Captain Marvel vs the one that came out a couple years ago (ignoring the hood). The lightning bolt is a different shape, and I think some of the trim colors are different, but the basic look and color scheme are unchanged. There was a Spiderman that I couldn’t even identify as an SDCC exclusive because it was just a very basic set of red/blue pajamas.

For Superman, the SDCC version has a silver logo that clearly matches the outfits of the other Kryptonians. Make the logo white, and that would suffice. You can’t really mess around with the shape, since it’s probably based on his Man of Steel logo (which was used for the SDCC Superman).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I am happy to see one more set of the Batman of my childhood (1980s child, but thats the only Batman we had... and it was a kid-friendly one, in contrast to the post 1989-movie ones)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@teran01:
Officially, Batman: The Animated Series (which premiered in the early 90’s) and the rest of the DC Animated Universe that followed were kid-friendly (by US standards, at least). In practicality, the producers really made the show for themselves, so it wasn’t dumbed down. There were a few episodes that got a bit dark for an after-school show. The next iteration was “The Batman”, which was seriously emo, and probably only held major appeal for people who loved Teen Titans so much they write hate-posts about the current Teen Titans Go! series. Batman: The Brave & The Bold was a cheesy follow-up, but still far more watchable than this show. And then Beware the Batman was the last to focus on Batman, which felt like a slightly darker successor to B:TAS.

Movie-wise, absolutely they’ve leaned away from kiddie-fare, but I couldn’t stand the character until Burton fixed what this show inflicted on him. Ironically, even those two movies are a bit too cheesy for my tastes (and Schumacher’s pair were almost as bad as this show). Where the character has really had a chance to shine lately is the direct-to-video movies they’ve been producing for at least a decade. Not every film knocked it out of the park, but you can tell these come from people who really understand the characters and their long and complex history, rather than newcomers who want to tell their own story wrapped up in someone else’s comic book characters.
