The one with the new Friends set
Posted by Huw,
Following the success of the LEGO Ideas set 21319 Central Perk released during 2019, another model based on the popular American sitcom is being launched next week. Here's the press release:
10292 F.R.I.E.N.D.S Apartments
2,048 pieces, rated 18+
€149.99 / $149.99 / £134.99 / 259.99 AUD / 199.99 CAD
VIP early access from 19th May.
Today, the LEGO Group announces the new LEGO F.R.I.E.N.D.S Apartments Set – which allows fans of the iconic Warner Bros. TV series the chance to recreate their favourite scenes. The 2,048-piece set, features both Monica and Rachel’s, and Chandler and Joey’s New York apartments, plus the adjoining hallway.
Following the hugely popular LEGO Ideas Central Perk set, which was released in 2019, the LEGO Friends Apartments set is complete with iconic features and props, such as the classic moment when Monica put the Thanksgiving turkey on her head, the one where Joey and Chandler only had a canoe as furniture and when Phoebe’s dollhouse went up in flames.
Other accessories from the show include the Poking Device; Gladys, Phoebe’s creepy art piece; the cheesecake that falls on the floor; Pat the Dog; the chick and duck, and many more. The set also gives fans the real sense of the original filming studio with set lights and allows you to display both apartments either separately or linked together with the hallway.
Additional features of the set include; new minifigures of the whole gang, in some of their most memorable outfits; Rachel’s iconic plaid skirt; Ross’ too tight leather pants; Monica in an apron; Phoebe in a classic floral look; Chandler in a suit and loud designer tie; and Joey wearing all of Chandler’s clothes. And for the first time ever, Janice will also feature as a minifigure in a classic over-the-top gaudy outfit.
Anderson Ward Grubb, LEGO Set Designer commented “Following the success of the LEGO Ideas Central Perk set, we wanted to develop another tribute to this iconic TV show with a focus on the famous apartments. We worked directly from production photos of the set as well as watching and re-watching a lot of episodes so we could capture as many iconic moments as possible. One fun challenge was figuring out how to represent some aspects that change over the course of the show that appear in some episodes and not in others. I am looking forward to seeing if the eagle-eyed fans will spot them.”
You can view more pictures on the set details page.

I assumed there would be something brilliant today!
I had such a blast building the first FRIENDS set with my wife. We are very much looking forward to this. I can't wait to show her the pictures of the set when I get home from work.
First day purchase. This is simply great. I didn't expect the hallway or Joey/Chandler's apartment. This has even more references than Central Perk. The only thing missing is the Geller cup. I simply love the Joey minifig.
So next please the Golden Girls house.
Not a big enough Friends fan to buy this, but this is a perfect set. The kind of “love letter” set that really NAILS a subject and shows proper Lego-fied reverence for it.
I like this alot!
Eljay got my hype up, but disappointed there is no reference to the Wairuha Bionicle lol (https://twitter.com/TheEljayJohnsen/status/1391188364703932418)
Lots of great parts in this one again. My wife loves the previous one, so a win/win here.
It's interesting that they still use that old milk carton print there (they made a new one without the cow).
...why is it spelled like an acronym? Was there a secret meaning in the name I never picked up on?
No, the dots in the original logo were just a graphic choice. I guess Lego simply uses it to differentiate from the Friends theme.
The set is well done, but it's got such an impractical layout to be integrated in a city… I have the Ideas set, which I intend on MOCing slightly to be incorporated in a building, but I would know what do to with this one… Besides, I'm not a FRIENDS fan, actually…
The effort and details are incredible! Looks exactly like the show
Is it important that the two apartments be sold as one set? I get the impression many people would be happy to spend less to own just Monica's apartment seeing as it is the more iconic setpiece of the two, based on my very limited knowledge of the show.

Hehehe, I thought that would have made for a nice reference too; but I figure it should be simple enough to rectify. Get an unprinted "statue" figure, shove it onto one of Joey's shelves and boom there you go its your Bionicle reference.

Top-secret sub-agency of SHIELD. "Smelly Cat" was actually coded information about Goose the Flerkin.

That explains why Ant-Man and Happy hanged out around them...
At least it's decently priced! I don't know much about the show, but it looks like a worthwhile set solely for what you get given the cost. I might pick it up!
Between my backlog, the upcoming city sets and this thing it's good that we're still in lockdown because I'm gonna be too broke to take the family on vacation...

Tbf, it's supposed to look like a TV show set, not an actual building.
SPOILER ALERT! The instruction manual for the section with MONICA's apartment is numbered as follows:
"1, 2, 1-2-3, 3, 5, 4, 3-2, 2, 2-4-6, 2-4-6, 4, 2, 2, 4-7, 5-7, 6-7, 7, 7, 7-7-7-7-7-7-7-..."
"And there you are"
I really like this. I was a big Friends fan in my teens and one of my first moc attempts years ago was to recreate Monica's apartment, but was impossible to do well, before so many new colours and parts and accessories were produced. I'd definitely like to get this if I can find room in my budget.
So many easter eggs in this set it's incredible. Can't see the duck but it's mentioned so hopefully it's there. Surprised at how much they've squeezed in to be honest, perhaps could do with being a little bigger but it's already quite big so I guess they were out of options.
^ Welcome back, Lucy!
And while not family friendly, an It's Always Sunny set with this level of detail/references would be so cool
Janice is included? OH. MY. GAWD!
I hope Chandler and Joey’s chairs recline.
Well done Lego take a bow.
For my wife who is obsessed with the show, and my daughter who later became obsessed this is a dream come true.
It’s one of those sets that when I ask them if you could get Lego to make anything what would it be, and this would be in their top 3.
For me with the Medieval Blacksmith and then topped by the Discovery it is becoming one incredible year of Lego.
(and the Bonsai set at the start of the year was a real winner too).
This set will of course be a day 1 order for us.
Love the Joey fig with all of Chandler’s clothes on.
/facepalm
Oh. My. Gawd!
And I said to myself I would not be purchasing any LEGO in the near future.. Who am I kidding?! Day 1 purchase :D
The number of references to the show that keep cropping up are just glorious - Joey wearing Chandlers clothes, the cheesecake, the reclining chairs, the foosball table, the chick & duck, the kayak, Phoebe's dodgy artwork, JANICE!, Rachel's outfit, Ross's leather trousers, the poking stick ........ It's clearly been designed by fans of the show and I am more than happy to hand over however many pounds LEGO want from me on day one for this set.
Missed oportunity to finally release a duck mould. But there are enough funny references packed in the set, so no big deal.
Looks like an unfinished lego set. They should provide tracks, a camera and the entire envelope 100 parts more and it would look like a movie set. Set copied from lego ideas.
Could Joey BE wearing any more clothes?! Love it, they just nailed it. Well, time to start sucking up to the misses again, although she's a Friends fan as well, so shouldn't be too hard. Also, as for incorporating this into a City layout, yeah it's going to be expensive. Curious to see what it looks like from the front, but if one had the funds 2-3 copies could be stacked to make an impressive apt. building.
How you doin?

Yes, of course, but while it was possible to integrate the original FRIENDS set into another building without changing it (too much), I can't see how to repeat the process with this one, unless you split it or build a super long building. But this is due to the highly unrealistic architecture of the apartments, actually. (The same goes for other fictional apartments in "The Big Bang Theory" or "Seinfeld", as a matter of fact.)
It is interesting that they're releasing this at a relatively close time to the Seinfeld set (which should be coming in the second half of 2021), which is of course another NYC apartment based on a 90's sitcom
Never watched a single episode, and of zero interest to me, but I am glad to see fan of the series approving this set.
Looks good! Although we will be Bricklinking some tiles to cover those floors . . . .
May you please do a review for this set. I bet there are secret references that we cannot see in the official photos. Thanks
Cool sets even not for Friends fans - amazing details!
I had expected more from the floor (al lot of studs, would prefer SNOT there)

Notice the rugs in the apartments ;-)
So excited for this, this is what the original ideas set should’ve been!
This looks really awkward to display though. Would have preferred just Monica's apartment to be displayed next to the Central Perk set.
That's a must have! The wife is gonna go bonkers.
Make a "The Office" set. More people like that show than Friends!
I'll have to pick this one up. Similar to the Kwik-E-Mart and the Ghostbusters HQ, it looks like it has a lot of Easter eggs for fans of the show.
Also, when did they add the Friends keyrings?

They do. Watch the video clip on the Lego website: https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/the-friends-apartments-10292
How much 'junk' is there in the back closet?
I really like the set, but it's so gigantic and $260 is simply more than I can afford. I do like it, though. I love the details. Joey wearing all of Chandler's clothes? JANICE?
And I really like the new hair piece for Phoebe, that looks fantastic.
Nice set but how it's possible that it costs almost $200 in the Czech Republic?!! Is there any secret I didn't catch about how the Lego Group set the prizes? I can't be irritated more!!!
Central Perk was it for me. I really don't think we need the apartments.
Hey, kids! Do you not have any friends? Well, for the low, low price of $149.99, Lego will help you out!
This is a faithful rendition of the interiors of the show. The question is how you can integrate it your display, and will anyone actually try to build the exterior of the building around it?
I'll have to add my own Marcel.
Dark tan and sand green doors!!! :D
We need the office now.
@Derp_Riot said:

No, they don't. And that's coming from someone who really likes both shows. :-) Also, they can't do The Office as long as another brick building brand has the license for it.
I wasn't expecting both apartments, and while that is great, I am somewhat disappointed they didn't make it so you could place Monica's apartment on top of Central Perk. Of course, you could modify it, but I liked the idea of stacking them, like a modular building. It would be neat if the layout turns out to be somewhat compatible with the upcoming Seinfeld set, so you could have an entire apartment floor.
Looks like they found a more fitting hair piece for Monica, but I think I like the ones for Rachel and Phoebe from the previous set better. At least we have the option to change them around. And OH. MY. GAWD. Janice looks perfect.
Any idea as to why they made the "rug area" of Joey's apartment removable? Purely for display purposes or is there some reference I'm missing?
It’s not an “easter egg”, but I’m glad they included the wooden beam that showed up in the earlier seasons (it may have made the occasional appearance later, too. I don’t recall). Lots of great attention to detail in this set!
I generally like it and it's something i'll pick up for sure, looking at 21319 I feel it's the sort of set i'll wait until it's discounted a little on Amazon rather than a day one purchase.
Quite liking here what is loosely a series of "tv/film sets" for stop-motion... e.g. may have to add similar towers/lights from these Friends sets to the outside of 21302 The Big Bang Theory as well... just need to build Penny's apartment now.
Surprised to not see any comments on just how forced and awkward it is to display this on all black for the box art just to make it fit in the 18+ range... So much black doesn't always make it look 'cool' to adults... I reckon it works with some car models, and maybe a few others but it's just daft now, because the black does not match the vibe of the show either!
Just compare the box art for this set and the last one which did not have the daft black box... the Central Perk box looks so much more fitting for the show, and just better overall!
If I didn't know Friends as a show, I could just as likely guess from the logo on the black background it was a horror as I could a sitcom
So, what I’d kill for is a Wandavision set in the same style as this.
I'm kind of tired of these TV tie in sets. I would rather see more unique and imaginative sets.

The rug areas of both apartments are removable so they can be switched - when they swapped apartments after Monica & Rachel lost the quiz. One of my favourite episodes :)
When is the Lego Masters TV Show Set set being released?

Took me a couple of minutes to remember the relevance of this sequence and the scene from the show, that’s brilliant haha. And ending with a silent 7 hand signal.
I really love the set.
The only thing i think Lego should have done different is making a new duck mould!
Noone mentions the white greyhound statue?
I hope this means that if the upcoming Seinfeld Apartment set does well, they'll follow it up with Monk's Diner.

This is a great set following the awsome IDEAS Central Perk, I am glad FRIENDS fans are happy.

There is 0 chance that is true. Friends is insanely popular. The office is liked, completely different scale of audience
Now i only need the apartments of New Girl, Seinfeld, Sex and The City, Will and Grace, a Penthouse upper level for Frasier and we have a complete building!
There's a pic where the apartments are separate from the hallway, so it looks like its possible to stack them, minus the lighting.
I'm pleased to see both apartments released, but they could have been done as separate sets to make it a little easier on the budget. And what about Ross' apartment? And the bedrooms?
Still, love all the episode references, this is a definite buy.
I am not a fan of Friends but it is one of the handful of most profitable shows of all time. It brings in around a billion dollars a year in syndication revenue. Each of the six cast members still receives $20 million per year for re-runs. Seinfeld and Big Bang Theory are right up there in terms of franchise value but none of the other shows mentioned in this thread even comes close.
I’m so happy for the Friends fans because this is absolutely fantastic, but Lego please please please do this for Schitts Creek. I would buy however many needed to make it profitable ??
@Yooha said:

That's Pat the Dog and it's in the description Huw posted.
We're gonna need someone to create custom instructions to turn this into a modular apartment building (and probably turn Central Perk into a standalone building).
Where are Chandler's glasses???
I'm going to make it stack the rooms on top of one another as well as the Big Bang Theory set. Hopefully I can build a nice apartment set.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good take on the set, hats off to the designer for that, but, did we need it? For me friends was done with central perk. Don’t personally think the theme needed milking any more.
Ok, nice job.
But there must be sooo many better themes, series, films, ... that we're looking forward to getting sets from!
Bring back LoTR! Or why not Game of Thrones? Or a Vikings theme? Indiana Jones, ... !

I wonder why they didn't just make the existing duck mould white.
For me, they missed it this time. The charm about the previous set was that it was affordable, compact and fun for non-Lego fans as well as Lego fans. It was something a fan of the series will get. Now they have the figures, and a nice display set.
This, on the other hand, is demanding - It's expensive, takes lots of space and will be too much sitting next to the original set.
Maybe it was better to just have Monica's place for a smaller and cheaper set, and release the other one next year if sales is good ?
I'm sure they did the research, but I have a feeling this one won't sell as much as the original. I know that for me from a day 1 blind gift for my wife it went to "maybe down the road if she really want it after looking at it".
OK…so when is the Roper’s Apartment from Three’s Company coming out? :D
I like this. I’ll buy it.
The set looks amazing. I was wondering how they would brand this compared to LEGO Friends considering it will have similar names, but different themes.
I love the Easter Eggs..I watched this show growing up, so it is very noticeable. Even my daughter got interested in it over the last few years (even with the jokes that fly over her head).
I will definitely have to pick this up. I just don't know when. I wasn't planning on spending an extra $150 and I know it won't ever be on sale. I guess I'll just have to cut out another set.
Pretty soon LEGO will just cannibalize their own sales. Yes, they still get the money either way, but no one can keep up these days!
If they are Gonna include Janice which is great BTW! Lol.. lego could of Produced Richard, Kathy, Emily, Mike Hannigan and Erm Josh-Ua Joshua..lol

You’re probably right, but I’d be curious to see the numbers on this. I’m guessing that number of people who rewatch the Office every year or two is pretty high. Now whether they’d make an Office Lego set is another question entirely.
I would rather make a lego floor plan of my house instead lol
The episode with Phoebe’s picture’s Gladys/Glynnis is hilarious.
I'm surprised by the price. Central Perk was $60 for 1079 pieces while this is $150 for 2048 pieces. It also seems like a high price point for non-Lego people but who are fans of the show.
I like it, but not sure if I'm enough of a fan to buy it (and there is already so much). Maybe some decent box art could have convinced me... Why were all the graphic designers at TLG fired?
Alright, I really like this, and I’m a big Friends fan, but it does look a little big. I like both apartments, but I think just Monica’s would be fine. I’m not sure how I can display this.
Meanwhile, Janice is terrific, and I love that scene with Joey.

Which version of The Office would they make though? The British version was the original but most people in America would want the American one, and it was remade in various countries so they'd probably want their local versions. I don't think it's popular enough to make localised versions for different countries and anyway, how do you make an office look fun enough to be a LEGO set (none of the many Ideas entries managed it)?
Edited to add: for context, Friends was/is very popular internationally too. I don't see LEGO sets being made of any sitcom that hasn't been popular internationally.
Tremendously dislike these black boxes. What I love most about LEGO is that it's colourful. Black is the absence of colour.
That's 2 friends, 1 Seinfeld, 1 big bang and some Simpsons sets..... when will we get a Frasier set?
This is well designed, but dang it's big. I think the girls' apartment would have been plenty.

"The details look good but I find the whole layout quite ugly. I think it would have been better to have a less realistic layout but better alignment of the apartments so they can be displayed on a shelf without one area pushing forward much more than the other."
Looking through the images, I noticed that they detach the hallway to display it better. Joey’s door in that case won’t be in the correct place. It’s not a perfect solution, but I think it’s a decent compromise for their desire to represent the spaces in each apartment relative to their doors.
I'm just glad we're getting the Reddish Brown Canoe again.
And shouldn't this set really be named:
F.R.I.E.N.D.S
The One with the Apartments
Something about these sitcom sets really rubs me the wrong way, not sure why though
Has a decent ppp ratio but compared to the ppp ratio of central perk this is severely lacking. Also we’re getting the same number of figures so you’d think we’d get at least two or three more, such as Emily, Ben, or Mike
The F.R.I.E.N.D.S in the press release is a little odd. Shouldn’t it be F•R•I•E•N•D•S? Maybe they picked it for readability. But I would argue both are ugly and unnecessary. The dots in the actual logo that are just decoration, as far as I can tell. I think using all caps would differentiate it from the Friends Lego theme.

My favorite cameo on the show was Robin Williams (and Billy Crystal) and Lego does have a Genie minifigure.
I have to say that what made Central Perk such a great set was not only was it incredibly affordable, but it was a truly amazing build with all the weird geometries. I’m glad they brought the rugs an inserts back for this, but other than that, it just looks like a simple apartment build with 90 degree angles, easily something I could have designed myself.
Of course the real kicker is the price and size. Yes, it’s a tremendous bargain based on PPP, but it is expensive. It’s also so massive that it would be difficult to put it anywhere. 2000 bricks but wide open spaces in the model just makes it look huge. The irregular shape also doesn’t help any, and while perhaps more accurate, detracts from the overall look of the set.
Yes, I’ve spent more on sets, and have some huge sets, but even my biggest (Death Star) seems more compact than this. I really enjoyed Central Perk and am definitely a fan of the show, but unless this gets discounted tremendously, I just don’t see myself getting it. On the other hand, if the Seinfeld set winds up like this, it wouldn’t matter, I’d probably wait to make sure I don’t get as a birthday present, but after that would be getting it.
Just counted and it looks to be 80 studs wide, which would make it over 2 feet long! Makes me wonder how you would ever move this set as it certainly isn’t as solid as say the Saturn V.
Separate sets would hit the popular sweet spot of $60 for 1000 pieces as in Central Perk, whereas with twice the pieces at $130 may be too much given all the other Lego alternatives, unless you really love the show, and some people just become tired, put off or lose interest after building 1000 pieces. Although everyone would probably just buy Monica's apartment as that were most of the filming took place with either just the girls or all the friends together, whereas Joey's apartment was just used mainly for the men only scenes. But if that's all people want, why bother with the other apartment?
All the people complaining about size are clearly missing the part where it separates into individual apartment builds.
LEGO really have gone overboard with the "lifestyle" images for this set.

Pat the dog is Joeys large ceramic dog. I believe the only time the name is mentioned is in an alternate flashback episode: Joey is a famous soap opera actor and Rachel, who is unhappily married to Barry, wants to hook up with him. She goes to his fancy apartment, in conversation he tells her the dogs name is Pat. She says “Pat the dog, oh I get it!”

Me too. I think the two apartments would have to be non-canonically set one above the other to make sensible MOC out of them, probably trying to keep the hallway / stairwell on one side.
I like the look of the set; not sure yet if I will buy it.
I still haven't gotten the Ideas one, although I find it intriguing ...
However, something doesn't feel quite right in this one.
I think it's the size of Chandler and Joey's apartment. When I watched the show, it always felt like a lot smaller than Monica's to me. In the LEGO set it seems at least the same size.

LEGO is just using the exact same style font as the intro to the TV show used.
The first Friends set had everything going for it. 7 figures, 1000+ pieces and $60. The set was full of details and exclusive pieces and a small, compact set. I HATE the show, most over rated show in TV history. I still own the cafe. It's just a good set.
This is just a weird set. Tons of stickers, and super long. I'm shocked LEGO just didn't make two $75 sets that connect."
As I mentioned in a previous comment, those dots in the logo are just a decorative element between the letters. A very 90’s style. They are between the top and bottom of the letters, not near the bottom like a period. So spelling it like an acronym doesn’t make sense.
Two FRIENDS sets . . . surely we can get a The Office set too! There's definitely been plenty of support for it on IDEAS. . . and I would wager that it has more of a cult following/bigger fanbase than FRIENDS.
Looks like a great set, especially for fans of the show, but given all the other great sets coming out this year this will probably not make it onto my wish list.

"Make a "The Office" set. More people like that show than Friends!"
There is 0 chance that is true. Friends is insanely popular. The office is liked, completely different scale of audience"
The Office set that I’d like to see is Shrute Farms!
I love that they included the Martin-Logan speakers in Chandler & Joey’s apartment. Buying this set is probably the closest I’ll ever come to owning a pair myself.
Not including the actual LEGO Bionicle figure in the back of the men's apartment that was in the actual show is a MAJOR miss

I still haven't gotten the Ideas one, although I find it intriguing ...
However, something doesn't feel quite right in this one.
I think it's the size of Chandler and Joey's apartment. When I watched the show, it always felt like a lot smaller than Monica's to me. In the LEGO set it seems at least the same size."
I think it’s more the size of Monica’s apartment. The window area behind the couch is too small. On the show there is a space for a table and chair and a bay window seat. The outside patio is also too small.
^ think you are right; it's probably more a depth problem than a width one.
I guess they had to cut corners somewhere.
