First Christmas GWP revealed

Santa's Front Yard

Santa's Front Yard

©2021 LEGO Group

Earlier today 40484 Santa's Front Yard, which is likely to be the gift with purchase over the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend, was revealed on the Australian pages of LEGO.com although it's no longer there.

The name of the 317-piece set, which contains an elf minifig and brick-built reindeer, does not seem particularly appropriate, but it looks like a cool set nevertheless.

Thanks to chrisaw for the news.

Maybe there will be another set that will fit to this set name.

By in United Kingdom,

I really hope that is not where the North Pole is.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now let's hope there are really good deals on Black Friday to justify getting the GWP!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess Minimum purchase is required more than 200 . Sailboat had 330 pcs and over $200 was required.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

There's quite a nasty story there.
Look at the fiendish smile on the face of the elf. He looks as if he is about to shove that carrot right into the "North Pole" as indicated by the sign. Or the carrot is supposed to BE the North Pole!
No wonder the reindeer has its eyes so wide open in horror. I bet you he knows what's going to happen...
;-)

By in United States,

I like the moon, too bad it looks like a sticker instead of a printed piece.

Gravatar
By in United States,

too bad the moon is a sticker :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the moon.

Meh.

That would be Rudolf’s back passage not Santa’s front yard.

By in United Kingdom,

I think it is beautiful! So atmospheric. I can feel the cold.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m sure Promobricks got that info from my comment on the Coffee Cart article…

Anyway, I’m not jazzed about this one - the background is nice at least.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

IDK, I guess free is free

Thanks, I missed your post earlier, and yes, almost certainly given the timestamps.

only one way to find out...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think I’d move the North Pole sign to the upper right side ;)
Wish the moon and star field were prints. They would be very useful.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Alright! Back to the vignettes!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I'm surprised at the luke ware reaction - I think it's pretty charming for a vignette, signage direction and carrot intentions aside. The moon, trees, dark sky really work well together. If I didn't go for the coffee cart I'd be interested.

By in United Kingdom,

Is it a nice set? Yes
Is it festive? Yes
Is it up there with previous Xmas GWPs? No
Is it going to make me want to part with £150-200 to get? No chance

Gravatar
By in Romania,

Ok, lets hope the second GWP will be a bit more enticing.
This one is an easy pass.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Like others, I like the moon too. Also hoping black friday has some decent deals, or at least double VIP. Saving a few non-time critical orders for then.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think "front yard" is meant to be taken literally here. I think the idea here is that the entire North Pole is Santa Claus' front yard.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hoping it'll be no more than £100 spend to get this free, but based on the current track record of LEGO, then having to sell 3 kidney's is probably closer.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Before I saw the sign, all I could think was the elf luring the deer with the carrot to fall into the river. Also, this is like the sixth reindeer built with a dark gray battle droid torso for its head. I think at this point it has to be the most common application for this piece in that color. Edit: Checked, and it has now been used 6 times for reindeer heads, 5 for assassin droids. Only other droid torso it's been is once for the fa4 pilot droid. But if counting the droid figures across multiple appearances, still seems to be the most common application.

By in United States,

I just thought it was a cute Christmas set but then Brickset commenters had to allude to something sinful that could be happening

Gravatar
By in United States,

@BlacktronBrian:
Judging by the shocked looked on the reindeer, apparently so. Must have picked the wrong spot to sit down.

@YanVanLan:
If the Earth was flat, cats would have pushed everything off by now.

Yep. Same.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why stars/constellation not filled the entire background but just the top 1x tiles?

Gravatar
By in United States,

"it looks like a cool set nevertheless"

Ha! Anyway . . . I guess that I'm not 'surprised' that it's a brick-built deer, but since there's a mold now, that would have been vastly preferable IMO (and a "must get" for me).

Agree, a molded reindeer would have made it more elegant. The background is nice though

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think this is super cute! However, I am thankful that it doesn’t seem to fit easily into my winter village and I won’t feel obligated to try and acquire it.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I would have preferred the sign to say Rovaniemi, but it's a cute set.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

317 pieces? Here?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ooh, maybe this is how North apples are created. What does Santa feed those guys?

Last year there were two GWPs, one at $150 and one at $200, and you would get both for your $200. So it would not be surprising if we get the same conditions this year. There are at least two additional rumored gwps coming up for general and VIP purchases, so if it's like last year we'll have two gwps this month and one next month. Plus the star wars gwp to go with the Black Friday star wars set. Plus an in-store polybag.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad I got Coffee Cart instead of this, the former can be integrated quite easily into my Modular display.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Will be interesting to see whether the new UCS AT-AT can be used to grab several GWPs at once.
Would be quite a nice way to soften the blow of the 799 USD price tag.

I didn't catch onto "the name" at first so I was wondering what was inappropriate about this set. Now that I've caught on to that, I know that the carrot is gonna be used exclusively for feeding the reindeer.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can we ban brick-built animals?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I’m glad I already placed my Christmas order and didn’t wait for this GWP. Feels a bit meh too me, perhaps I’ve been spoiled by the good quality GWP’s in the previous years? The build style of the reindeer and elf minifig clash imo, the only thing I somewhat like is the backdrop, too bad it has so many stickers…

Gravatar
By in United States,

This doesn't inspire me to spend money to get this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

P-P-P-Parts Pack!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind ending up with this if I can find the sets still in stock when it goes live. If not...eh, I've bought enough LEGO this year

Certainly doesn't look like that many.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Some useful parts that i can use for MOCs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@parsom:
Reindeer is 44pcs by itself. Tall tree is 51pcs minimum. Short tree is probably 32pcs. That’s 127pcs without touching the ground, the sky, the 2D tree, Rudolph’s Shame, the Elf, the lantern, or the carrot. Yeah. 317pcs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Will there even be anything left in stock by then? Stuff is going out of stock really quickly. If there's something you NEED for your kids before Christmas, don't wait for a GWP and order NOW! If there's something you want for yourself and it's retiring soon, order NOW!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Love that moon sticker.
Other than that I don’t think I’m that bothered with this one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks terrible

Gravatar
By in Finland,

That's not a reindeer. Reindeers are not brown. Cute little GWP, though.

You're being sarcastic, right?

If not, tell me one good reason to buy from LEGO directly other than for GWPs or some other special perk instead of from Amazon or other retailers who generally have far better discounts than anything you get from LEGO.com, plus have almost everything in stock most of the time.

Actually, for the money you save from buying at other retailers, you can easily buy most GWPs on Bricklink or eBay later on.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

How on earth is that 300+ pieces?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Generally a gift with purchase is a nice bonus, but not really worth the effort. This one is super cute, and actually makes me want to buy something.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Disappointed in this to be honest. Like others, am glad I didn’t wait on other purchases to get this GWP - am likely to give it a miss, which would be the first Xmas season set ignored since 2014

For me, the inclusion of the rear vertical wall is a mistake and the piece count better used elsewhere on this.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

A bit dull and I never liked those brick built animals.
Add stickers and spending threshold... I doubt even the Grinch would steal it.
