Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 1

Posted by ,

LEGO Advent Calendars were introduced during 1998 and this selection has expanded to feature City, Star Wars, Friends and Harry Potter. 76196 The Avengers Advent Calendar further enlarges this popular range.

Let's see how the LEGO Marvel Advent Calendar begins...

The packaging is inspired by Avengers Tower and features the landing pad, Quinjet hangar and glass panels which reflect the New York skyline. The colour scheme is relatively drab, but I like the seasonal decorations surrounding the hangar and the distant sunset provides some colour. However, my favourite detail is definitely the tops of buildings which are visible around the pad, conveying the height of Avengers Tower.

Exclusive minifigures are certainly a good introduction to a new Advent Calendar, particularly those embracing the season! Tony Stark is therefore appealing, wearing a knitted Christmas jumper that looks fantastic. 75279 Star Wars Advent Calendar introduced this idea, but I think Tony's jumper is especially effective because it includes a snowflake resembling the arc reactor.

Furthermore, I love the tiny Iron Man helmets which decorate the jumper, appearing on the front and back. Tony's name is also present on the reverse. I like that detail, although omitting the name would have ensured the torso was more versatile and could be worn by more generic minifigures, rather than only Tony Stark.

The double-sided head is retained from previous minifigures and this helmet has appeared frequently as well, featuring an attractive golden faceplate. The helmet cannot open though, unfortunately. Various repulsor blast accessories are also provided, including trans-light blue elements which connect to the hands and feet.

Overall - 5.0 - I am reluctant to commence the Advent Calendar scoring with full marks, but this exclusive minifigure impresses in every regard!

Somewhere in Lego headquarters a team of Lego Advent Calendar designers are cheering "Yes, we're winning Day 1!"

I agree, @CapnRex101, a great figure to start December with.

This is our first ever LEGO advent calendar, and the 1st of December is our son's birthday, so it's extra special. He got 76166 Avengers Tower Battle as his birthday present this morning, so the contents of each day of this calendar are going to go straight into the action.

I'm really surprised this isn't day 24.

The best thing about today? The reveal that the display side of the box isn't full of spoilers for the next few weeks. I get why the retail face shows some of the gifts, but now I've set up the calendars each day will be a proper surprise.

The figure is good too, and he has plenty of accessories. I'm too used to figure accessories being parted out to a weapons rack day, tbh.

Heckuva strong way to start out.

Love the Xmas jumper design here, and Tony is definitely self absorbed enough to put his own name on the back! A great start to this first Marvel Advent Calendar.

Also, echoing OscarWRG, the thumbnail image for this new calendar is excellent!

This is the calendar that I'm most here for! I didn't end up getting one to try, after all - just had too many other things on my mind to think about it until it was too late - but I look forward to experiencing it vicariously through these reviews. The other fandom ones don't have much to interest me this year; and since I'm a relative newbie to the MCU and Marvel, I'm anticipating this one being a fun experience :D

Nice start, so far! ^^

I thought for sure this would be the Day Twenty-Four gift, as Christmas-themed minifigs frequently are in Star Wars calendars. Was quite surprised to open Day One's flap and see it. I I hadn't noticed Tony's name on the back. Like you, I love the snowflake arc reactor.

I love the idea of Tony wearing a horrible Iron Man-themed Christmas sweater... but you just know that Pepper guilted him into wearing it, probably in revenge because Tony did or said something typically thoughtless.

I was a bit confused by all the extra transparent pieces.

I thought maybe the cones could be for Iron Man's jet thrusters ... or they could be Vodka Cruisers. It is Tony Stark, after all.

But no, this was a good start. I'm looking forward to the rest of this calendar.

Was stunned to see this in day 1. Would’ve been sure this would be day 24. Hopefully it doesn’t go downhill from here.
Not sure what to expect on day 24 now.

A great day-1 build to get into the spirit of things! I hope your reviews don’t make me regret not picking this one up more than I already do...! ;)

By in Netherlands,

Another year, another calender. But now there's a Super Heroes one, so at least we'll get new subject matter. A great start!

By the way, great logo for this advent calender! It's up there with the atmospheric Harry Potter one in terms of great design :D

I was actually genuinely impressed with the design of the display bit of the box! Cleverest thing I've seen them do with it.

Needs more Batman. Or at the rock-bottom, very least, Deadpool in 24 different outfits. Instead, I’ll just have to imagine these are being commented on by the folks at Toy Fare magazine, in the style of their Mego comic strips.

My son gets the Marvel calendar this year (so I don't have to share the Star Wars one), but I agree with the 5.0. LOVE the ugly Christmas sweater!

Think given the alternatives, this Calendar is hands down the best choice this year. Unique character on day one as well? Instawin. Will look nice lined up as an alternate costume with my armory set-up.

I fun and unique minifigure but, alas, no opening helmet. :( That is one feature I do miss.

By in United States,

Only gets a 4.5 from me cuz it doesn't include the opening helmet design.

Man. I’m already wishing I’d done this one alongside my usual Star Wars AC. I guess I still have a few hours left if I want to head down to Walmart nearby and see if they still have any. Hmm, decisions, decisions…

I really like this minifigure. The sweater is very well done with the arc reactor snow flake (with a nice sheen to it as well), little face plates throughout and “Tony” on the back. I also like the Avengers Tower playmat scene and will place this minifigure, with his boot thrusters, over the skyline as he approaches the landing pad.
