Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 4

Posted by ,

Iron Man has appeared prominently during the first few days of this Avengers Advent Calendar. Maybe another character will become the focus from today.

Let's open the door and find out...

Black Widow appears today, wearing her detailed costume introduced last year. I think the colour combination of black and dark bluish grey is perfect, complemented by metallic silver accents and the Black Widow emblem on her belt. This design is tiny, so the simplified shape can be excused, in my opinion.

The double-sided head looks reasonable too, displaying neutral and angry expressions which seem appropriate for the character. Even so, greater variety would be welcome. However, the most impressive aspect of this minifigure is definitely the printed arms, which do look fantastic. The golden weapons on her wrists, dubbed Black Widow's Bite, are particularly appealing.

Two trans-light blue batons are provided, represented by 4L bars. However, rather than using them for combat here, Black Widow is instead toasting a marshmallow!

Overall - 4.5 - While this minifigure is relatively common, its quality is outstanding and deserving of a high score.

I don't have a Black Widow minifig before, this one has excellent printing including leg and arm prints, rare for Marvel. Superb.

I kind of thought the white cylinder at the end of the stick was supposed to represent a snowball? Like maybe the stick is used to project the snowball, or maybe instead of throwing snowballs at people, she hits people with the snowball on the end of her stick.

This is extremely cool, but one would have thought that her white uniform from the standalone movie would have been used instead, as part of the holiday theme.

Is that the Jyn Erso head? Surely we're due a few new prints for female characters, feels like we've had the same few for ages.

Definitely a solid entry today with the detailed minifig. Getting two big characters in just 4 days is very nice!

By in Australia,

Are we sure she's not roasting a roll of toilet paper? I mean, that would be kind of weird ... but stranger things have happened in these calendars.

I liked getting another figure. Hopefully, they stick to a trend of one figure every 3 days (which would give us 8 or so figures, which is more than on the front of the box, which is always nice).

No way you are ever getting 8 minifigures ;)

@stevesheriw: No, there haven't been any bigfigs... Oh, that's not what you meant.
Calling it now, tomorrow we'll get something to toast the marshmallow.

@MisterBrickster: that is the Jyn Erso head. (That minifig is quite expensive on BrickLink in my opinion.) This Black Widow head is also used for Vicki Vale in the fantastic Batmobile set and for Rachel in Central Perk.

I'd not really call the figure 'relatively common' when two of the sets its in are on the more expensive side, and one of them is this calendar which sold out and was hard to obtain in most places.

I think it is due to the fact that the fig is also in the recent blister pack, 40418, which is even being discounted now on Lego.com here in the US.

Just a minor grump: this is the Gamerverse Black Widow from the current Marvel's Avengers game. Which is fine! I just wish we'd get a Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Black Panther modeled on their game appearances. The Hawkeye and BP in the 2020 gamerverse line were unique designs not modeled on the game.

I'm loving the printing. I don't have any of the other sets she was in, so I'm very pleased with today.

But they need to retain exclusivity of that figure for that one set, ya know. It's just business. ;)

BW is a rather bland figure otherwise, but the printing looks superb. But it is nice to get a cheaper option of her (even though I already have this figure).

(I say bland, but I did like the BW movie, but mostly for Yelena's antics.)

@Terreneflame:
HPAC 2019 came close, with three students, three faculty, and the gold statue of the Hogwarts Architect, for a total of seven minifigs.

@TheOtherMike:
Trans-orange energy effects pack?

I am excited as I don’t have a Black Widow minifigure yet and she is one of my favorite characters. The Avengers calendar is definitely strong in the minifigure department so far.
