Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 13
Posted by CapnRex101,The charming Helicarrier model which appeared yesterday has quickly become my favourite item from 76196 The Avengers Advent Calendar. Day thirteen therefore promises excitement.
Let's see whether the high standard continues...
These colourful models appear somewhat disappointing beside the Helicarrier, although they seem appropriate for the season and include vibrant colours to match specific characters. The stocking undoubtedly belongs to Hulk and includes a hanger on top, so this could easily become a small tree decoration if you wish.
Meanwhile, the dark blue and red gift may represent either Captain America or Captain Marvel because both characters feature these colours and are associated with stars! Regardless, this design looks reasonable, but is certainly very basic.
Overall - 3.0 - Themed presents are welcome additions to LEGO Advent Calendars, but these examples are relatively bland.

Yeah this is two stacks of square bricks. Unimpressed.
Not the most exciting, but certainly festive.
I think the progressive nature of these builds lends to play within a larger collection than they do anything special on their own. In that way it's not a traditional advent calendar as much as fuel for daily play.
I really liked this one. Haven't people been upset because the advent calendar hasn't been festive enough? In response, Hulk's Christmas stocking and a present for Captain Marvel (I initially thought it was for Captain America, but the blue is dark-blue, and with the yellow star, that's more Captain Marvel, thematically).
And now I'm wondering whether the Hulk or Captain Marvel will show up in the calendar. I mean, you couldn't really fit one of the Big Figs in the little advent calendar compartment, could you?
@Zordboy: I seem to remember a Captain Marvel shown on the box. Of course, you could just check the set images page if you don't mind spoilers.
This is the first time I actually got the wrong item. I got the parts for the grill from day 5 again instead. That worries me. I hope I don't miss one that I really want.
The stocking looks a little too chunky, but the present is nice. It can also be affixed to the top of the Helicarrier, can it not?
@Zordboy:
More Captain America minifigs have probably been released in dark-blue than primary blue, though I suspect those are all from the MCU sets, while this appears to be based on other sources. His Star has always been white, though, to match the colors on the US flag. Gold fringe is acceptable, but the stars are exclusively white.
There’s another minifig Hulk (the fourth, I believe, if you count Mighty Micros) coming out next year, so that’s always a viable solution for Advent Calendars. And this would be a Hulk-themed sleeping bag if he shows up.
^ or they could give us a Bruce Banner minifig, should scale more properly ;-)
@YanVanLan:
There’s a reason nobody writes monthly comics about Einstein, Newton, and Galileo. Committing acts of science is rarely as exciting as punching the bad guy’s face in.

Just email or call LEGO Customer Service and they'll replace whatever item is missing from your Advent calendar. Same thing happened to me once and they took care of it, no problem.

Hulk, and both Captains Marvel and America are there on the art on the box, but they're not shown in any of the "these are the toys inside this box" pictures on the front. So it's still a question mark.
I could look ahead, on Bricklink (or even Amazon), because they've got the entire set pictured and catalogued, but I've done that in past years, and I'm enjoying some of the surprises in this set, I'm trying not to spoil myself.

There was a great monthly comic, Manhattan Projects, starring Einstein and a slew of other scientists. Granted he did his share of punching and smashing and hacking with an ax, but still. Marvel had a S.H.I.E.L.D. comic that largely centered around Galileo with Newton as the Sorcerer Supreme. There are numerous other comics involving scientists committing all sorts of acts of science.
I wasn't sure what the green thing was for sure today. I thought stocking, but it looked a bit clunky. I did think the Hulk stocking might be part of a bigger build, but guess not.
I know this is a Marvel set, but that color scheme could just as well fit the Riddler or Lex Luthor from DC (joker too if you added a red/white plate, or even Poison Ivy if you replace the purple with probably red)
The size being obviously bigger for Hulk makes sense though.
Another festive build that just doesn’t really feel festive. I like the attempt they made for a larger stocking for the Hulk and in his colors, but this is an overall lackluster offering today.
*sigh*. If this was Toy Fare Magazine’s Mego comic strip, Hulk would have defiled that stocking by now.
I'm just consistently amazed by peoples comments that they don't already know whats in the calendar. It's literally printed on the box and the second picture in the database. I have to admire peoples' self-control!
