Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 22

Posted by ,

Two impressive models focusing upon Iron Man appeared yesterday and the day before. Despite their excellence, I hope something very different emerges next.

Let's open the door and find out...

Several characters have been cleverly adapted for the season already and Thor continues that trend, sporting a lovely scarf! Similar minifigures have appeared in four previous sets, featuring the same torso component. The traditional circular armour panels look splendid, with dark blue decoration between them. I prefer brighter versions of Thor's costume, but this design features extensive detail.

The red scarf matches printing on Thor's torso, which was originally included to complement a cape. However, the decoration appears equally effective here and I like this double-sided head, displaying calm and angry expressions. Unfortunately, the eyebrows on my minifigure are offset and therefore look awkward, but that should be an isolated issue.

Whereas previous Thor minifigures wearing this costume have included helmets or shoulder-length blonde hair, this variant features a shorter hair piece. The element looks perfect and suitable accessories are provided too, including Mjolnir with two white Power Blasts. They represent snowballs, shared with Captain Marvel from day fifteen.

Overall - 3.5 - While this Thor minifigure is not among my favourites from the Advent Calendar, the costume and seasonal scarf look marvellous.

Thor is a great inclusion here, with the festive scarf. I have had no complaints about the minifigs included with this calendar, they have all been excellent.

Let's start a conversation about which way to turn the scarf. I'd definitely do it opposite than the image above. :-)

The spare scarf goes well with another figure in a different calendar today....

Until you mentioned it I didn’t even realise I’d put it on the wrong way round - although it definitely looks better with the length at the front.

Long end of the scarf at the front for me

Agreed, but the image inside the window shows the scarf with the longer section at the back and I have been paying special attention to those images after making a couple of building errors earlier in the calendar!

I suppose Thor is accustomed to wearing a cape, so wearing the scarf this way seems natural for him.

Fair thinking, but the picture on the front box flap has the dangly in front. :-)

As with real life scarves can be worn in multiple ways, letting you bring visual diversity to your minifigs. I love that this piece is reversible with different scalloping on each side, we of course had to give the extra one to Iron Man and it would only fit one way with his helmet on!"

I have never not hated the Mickey Mouse dots on Thor’s comic book costume. They look as ridiculous as the tiny armor tabs sewn into the tunics in First Knight.

Boo, mine has Thor on the picture on the door, but a second snowman inside.

Fun little detail on his torso - the space between the four smaller dots has silver detailing in the shape traditionally seen for mjolnir.

I got a spare BBQ/grill model instead of Thor in mine. Boo indeed!

I think I have your Thor. On my day 16, I got Thor instead of the snowman, only to then get a second Thor today. Sorry.

When this is all done (i.e. advent calendars from all themes) can we have a survey of how many people got errors on their box. From what I'm reading, many people get doubles, wrong location, missing parts etc, etc.
