Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 12
Posted by CapnRex101,
75307 Star Wars Advent Calendar has achieved mixed success thus far, including some brilliant models alongside others which have been fairly disappointing.
However, I am optimistic for today...
The agile Imperial TIE Fighter is an excellent counterpart for yesterday's X-wing in more ways than one. Beyond complementing one another for play, which is welcome, this model also closely resembles those from previous Advent Calendars. However, I cannot fault that consistency because the model looks superb and its appearances are infrequent, initially arriving in 2014 and returning in First Order colours during 2018.
The proportions between the cockpit and the solar array wings are perfect, while the trans-black 1x1 round tile forms a lovely viewport. The exposed studs on the top and bottom of the cockpit sphere appear slightly awkward though, while the solar arrays are relatively fragile. Even so, I think the TIE Fighter looks great.
Overall - 4.5 - Despite its fragility, I am very impressed with this tiny Imperial TIE Fighter.

It’s intresting they didn’t bring back the printed piece from moff Gideons cruiser
Perfect companion to the X-wing indeed.
The only niggle I have with this is that, since it's a Mandalorian themed calendar, this is technically a TIE Outlander (or at least I assume that's what it's supposed to be). Admittedly it would be difficult to do so, but it would have been nice to have the folding wings incorporated to differentiate it and keep the theme consistent.
Wow, 4.5? I suppose that's OK in relation to the quality, or lack thereof, in the calendar this year.
Good call @TeddytheSpoon on having foldable wings.
They’ve also done a nice TIE hatch pattern that has also seen very limited use.
I am still awaiting the mudhorn egg!
@NotProfessorWhymzi:
Doesn’t “TIE” stand for Targeting Infers Explosion or something like that?
It should have had the 2x2 plates be round, then there could be a 3 long bar running through the center, stabilizing the model.

TIE stands for Twin Ion Engines

Don’t boring away my joke!
“The exposed studs on the top and bottom of the cockpit sphere appear slightly awkward ….”
To me they make the sphere look more spherical than “no studs” or two plates/tiles would.
