Elvis Presley Art set revealed!
Posted by Huw,
Another forthcoming Art set, 31204 Elvis Presley, has been revealed by several RLFM sites, although we are unsure where the images originated from.
The set contains 3,445-pieces with which you can build a choice of three portraits of the so-called king of rock-n-roll at various ages.
I have to tell you now that I detest Elvis, so this is definitely not a set I'll be buying!
You can view the three images after the break.

Nice one, hope we get more iconic musicians in the future.
I detest sets consisting of near exclusively 1x1 tiles.
I am grateful that we can be open here about our feelings.
This one looks pretty good. The blue background laughing image is pretty striking.
There's a Father Ted episode that sums up the three ages of Elvis....
Thank you very much!
“I have to tell you now that I detest Elvis, so this is definitely not a set I'll be buying!”
Tell us how you really feel, lol! Detest is such a strong word. What exactly did he do to warrant such ire?
These mosaics are way overpriced. They look great though.
I'm also more of Chuck Berry!! Anyway, Art sets seems to be here to stay for a long time.
4, 5, 6 all looks grey. There are light bluish grey dark bluish grey, what is the 3rd?
Absolutely stunning! I'm buying 3.

Despite 'detesting' these art sets I would definitely consider buying a Father Ted one!
And a Craggy Island Parochial house could be the greatest - though I accept very niche - set ever.

You can be…. but don’t you step on my blue suede shoes
Whether you are a fan or not these will sell well and far beyond the AFOL demographic. That’s how LEGO makes enough profit to sell the more niche sets that people like.
...this would be an apt time for Lego to announce a new Disney Lilo & Stitch art set.
Alright... Queen better be next!

I believe 4 is sand blue!
Like the idea of these sets but they’ve yet to release one with subject matter i’m interested in. Hoping for some wildlife / nature themed ones in future
Love it!! I have been to his live performances. He is the true “King” of rock & roll. MJ is good artist as well. This will go nicely with the Beatles art that I just purchased. Old school music is the best.
It's wonderfully done, although I'm not an Elvis fan. The use of color here is incredible, very impressive.
Seems a small niche: Lego fans who like Elvis.
Looks good, but not an Elvis fan here either.
I'll wait for a set from either dEUS, Muse or Drive-by Truckers...
Someone has gotta make a combination model of like 4 of these, that would be so cool!
"I have to tell you now that I detest Elvis, so this is definitely not a set I'll be buying!"
It's simply a reveal post. I would rather see that in the comments section. Just a little feedback - I'm not an Elvis fan.

It’s not aimed at AFOLs. There are plenty of Elvis fans.
The most accurate one so far.
Really captured all three looks extremely well.

We don't know that since there are no sales numbers. I would also suspect they sell badly since they get discounted constantly.
Lego didn't appear to need so many real-world art item sets in prior years as there were none until about 2020. Also the number of "niche" products like common Star Wars figure scale sets has been noticeably reduced to accommodate slots for set lines like this which turned up at around the same time. So of all the imagined product line rivalries, the issue of art mosaics, statues and legoified real world items taking away set slots from more deserving traditional products seems to be a justified fear.
And it seems rather strange for them to use nostalgic themes and focus on minifigures in marketing constantly while offering nothing or at best a fraction of such iconography in current products, making me think either marketing is out of touch or the set designers and that either one needs to be beat in line.
I’ve seen a big uptick in adults that I know who have bought the Art and other 18+ “realistic” sets since 2020. People that I’ve never known to play with LEGO are coming out en masse to buy these niche products and I love to see it. Just because AFOLs aren’t interested in a lot of these doesn’t mean adults in general won’t be, and LEGO knows this. I personally won’t get the Elvis one, but I know a whole lot of people that would absolutely get this.
"I detest Elvis..."
Well, you ain't nothing but a hound dog, are you?
"Companies should only sell what I like."
I wish some of you people would read your own posts. Lego doesn't own anyone anything and markets are not a zero sum game. And the amazing thing about a modular toy is that you can reconfigure it into whatever you want.
Don't like Elvis? Turn this into something else.
Nope, nope, nope. Bring backs horrible childhood memories. My Mother was obsessed with Elvis collectibles, buying expensive "Bradford Exchange" plates and the like. Spending way beyond our means to the point of having to go to a food bank some months.
I've dreamed of smashing those plates some day, and they have the exact images as the set.
Not knocking the music or his place in history. I'm sure they will sell to non-AFOLs. I just wish Lego would choose more subjects for the Art sets that haven't been merchandised to death.
I guess Art sets must sell well overseas as in Australia I see them discounted at 45% off often and they still don't seem to be selling even at that price!!
Was personally very excited when the first wave came out, then I built the three different Star Wars ones and was less excited to the point that I haven't built any more or bought any more. I like something that looks good, which the Art sets do, but also something I will enjoy building, which I very much didn't, so boring!!!
Glad they are still around for the people that like them, but am with Huw in that I'm not much of an Elvis fan, so big skip on these lol
Feels weird that they would crop out the hair, probably the most iconic thing about Elvis...
But these art sets were never for me, I just hope the real fans aren't too bothered by this
I'm also not a fan of Elvis
Fingers crossed for a LEGO Arts Rick James set.
Hey, I happen to like several Elvis songs...as long as someone else is singing them.
@Anonym:
Got any proof of your claim? Disney hasn’t released a movie since they scapegoated Solo for the damage caused by their sequel trilogy, and movies sell sets. There was an animated series, but nobody appeared to have watched it, so that didn’t help. Now there’s The Mandalorian, but it’s a short-run, streaking series that likely has reduced viewership due to not being on a broadcast or basic cable network.
They once stated that sales of SW sets dropped in the 2-year gaps between prequel movies, and if the Clone Wars series hadn’t come along when it did, it’s possible the theme could have concluded by now.
The failure of Vidiyo accounts for some reduction in the total number of sets, and can’t be blamed on anything but Vidiyo. The overall number of sets has more than doubled in the last two decades, with a huge surge in pandemic buyers the last two years, another huge boost from The LEGO Movie eight years ago, and just generally waking up to the fact that retailers really do need monthly release waves to keep product moving during the entire year. I find it highly unlikely that they would have imposed a cap on the total number of sets that they could produce in a given year. Especially since the number of sets released doesn’t remain fixed for even two years running.
I also detest Elvis, but these look great! Between these and the Batman one, they are really hitting their stride with the art sets.
The continuing theme that these Art sets are always discounted must be a ‘rest of world’ thing because the only good discounts we have seen in the U.S. are the occasional clearance when stores are trying to move in new product.
Elvis is completely overrated! I will be waiting for a Led Zeppelin one!

I get that. They’ll sell a fair few just to people who buy anything Elvis. I’ve been to Graceland and the amount of absolute junk they’re selling in the multiple gift shops (the whole place is pretty much just a bunch of gift shops) is mind boggling.
I still, however, find it a strange intersection.
Ohhhhhh, it's Elvis Presley. Thought Shakin' Stevens was a bit niche.

Yeah the combo of all four (I assume thats how many there would be) creating the iconic shadow scene from Bohemian Rhapsody would be amazing! And Led Zep could also benefit from a whole lotta love as well.

I gotta confess: I'd buy a Rush art set. That might be a little TOO niche of a Lego/music market.
The colour palette from light to dark skin tones looks great for doing your own custom designs.

Fun fact: my wife is Canadian; I'm American. Guess which one of us is the Rush fan.
Don't like Elvis eh? I'm all shook up!
Yes this is done in TILES!!! Definite day 1 buy. One of my favorite singers.
Absolutely superb! By far the best Art set so far.
And finally the reason for Huwbot's aversion to pre-1978 RSOTD is revealed. The thought of Lego that co-existed with Elvis is just to traumatic to bear. Uh huh.
One for the money...
I like Elvis' music, and I'm an AFOL. Don't think I'll be buying this one. Only have Warhol, and the instructions for the others. The Batman set is tempting however.
I take it you're a Beatles man then, @Huw?

I dislike them amost as much as I do Elvis!
@gorf43:
Several years ago, I had a coworker who was such a huge Rush fan that he had a naked man tattooed on his arm. One day he came up to me, pointed at one of the community radios, and just said, “Rush.” I pointed down at my own, which was in the middle of playing my Garbage playlist, and just said, “Music.” He didn’t know how to respond to that.
@ResIpsaLoquitur:
Canadian radio stations are required to play Canadian musicians a certain percentage of the time. Americans living along the Canadian border can tune into these stations, so those who choose to do so receive a hefty amount of exposure to Canadian music acts. Canadians who live far enough away from the border that they can’t regularly tune in US-based stations can’t get away from the constant assault. It’s not uncommon for Canadian music acts to be more popular south of the Canadian border than north of it.
Very nice. Can we get Taylor Swift next?
Looks great but 150 bucks for a paint by numbers is a touch ridiculous

There are people that collect everything Elvis, and it makes sense for LEGO to produce something like this to get a "piece of the pie" or so to speak.
I'm not an Elvis fan, but it's a thousand times better than most of the popular music today. Pretty much, I was raised on '70s rock, and it split off to metal once I heard Metallica's cover of Bob Seger's Turn the Page. And for some reason, a lot of early country as well has been seeping into my listening.

Elvis was Elvis… there is a reason he is called the King of Rock and Roll… I am of a different generation but it is undeniable what he represents for music.

If Chuck Berry didn't invent rock-n-roll, there would have been no Elvis like we know it... he might have sung country for all we know. I realize Elvis is considered "the King", but without "Johnny B. Goode", we wouldn't have "Jailhouse Rock", or anything by the Beatles, for that matter. (they even covered a Chuck Berry song "Roll over Beethoven" on an early album!)
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Elvis film: "Viva Las Vegas".
I don’t get the AFOL community’s reaction to new lego themes such as lego art. Just because it strays from traditional lego doesn’t make it bad. I personally love how these sets look on display and they definitely draw in a different demographic of non-lego fans.
Anyone who doesn’t like Lego appealing to new demographics with untraditional products should remember that Lego Star Wars did the same thing 20 years ago.
I have no opinion regarding Elvis or this set or this post, just this comment.
What doth thou have against Elvis Presley? Personally, I have not heard many of his performances, but the few I have, I quite enjoy. If my luck turns around and better income I receive, then consider purchasing this I shall.
You detest Elvis but i bet that if LEGO sends you a free review copy you will happily accept it...
^ eh, duh; 3445 LEGO pieces for free, you tell me you wouldn't?

I've always been into soul, funk, disco, jazz and other MOBO, and generally dislike rock and chart music.
Actually, Paul McCartney did do a couple of decent tunes, when he dueted with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson...
I do much prefer this type of mosaic, where several variants are available, but not essential for the full effect. Marilyn, Mickey Mouse and this all look great as single items, with extras being nice, but optional. The Beatles looked a bit lacking with any less than all 4. (Plus, I wasn't keen on the White Album photos... I would have preferred A Hard Days Night or Sgt Pepper)

Really...that's some of the worst music McCartney ever released...and that Christmas song...stick with Lego...and thanks for your opinion...
This actually looks pretty solid. I haven't picked up any of the art sets and I don't have any Elvis memorabilia. I won't start now either, but this looks well done, especially for a human depiction. Most haven't looked right to me, maybe it's the shading? I do like that we get various stages of "The King."
Maybe someone should do a Kurt Russell version since he is a Disney prince after all.
@Huw:
You listen to disco, and you’re dissing the Beatles? I mean, the best sound to come off a disco album happened in Comiskey Park on July 12, 1979, left a crater in the field, and caused the Chicago White Sox to forfeit a baseball game to the Detroit Tigers.
@sjr60:
To be fair, the Beatles mosaics used rectangular photos and turned them into square mosaics. The transfer did not go well.

Nothing to do with the transfer... I didn't like the original photos.

Ey, guys, cool it down. Everyone has their own taste in music and we shouldn't attack each other because a person doesn't like a very popular musician or band.
Must be the first time i'm truly devastated like this while reading on Brickset.
I do pretend to know a little something about pop culture and the history of rock music, and I utterly believe that if you "detest" both Elvis ànd the Beatles, you just detest pop music and the performers that really made it happen in the last +60 years! (I consider 1955 to be the very start of pop & rock).
While i've never been an idolizing fan of truly great icons like Elvis, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, ... you just can't ignore their contribution to modern culture. And 'detesting' feels very disrespectful here.

Not too much of a fan of any of these as the details get blurry. But Sgt Pepper would get me looking for my visa. And then again ... the details of that classic cover would bring the designers to tears :)
Let us keep in mind that @Huw runs this awesome site (hats off to stirring up traffic) and many thanks to @MeganL for reviewing the set.
