Thor's Hammer revealed!
Posted by Huw,
Target has revealed a hitherto unknown set, 76209 Thor’s Hammer Mjölnir, which will be exclusive to the store in the USA, although it will of course also be available at LEGO.com and in other countries.
It can be pre-ordered from today and I believe that it'll be released on March 1st.
The 979-piece kit contains a Thor minifigure and three small models that can be concealed inside the hammer head.
Update: Further images and information are now available on LEGO.com, confirming prices of £104.99, $99.99 or €119.99.

I guess they are making life size weapons now?
"No more exclusive sets" - The LEGO Group.
Jonathan!
This set looks like rubbish but would make a decent parts pack when it goes on clearance.
Now that we have an official useless hammer set, the LEGO Toilet seems much more likely now.
No patterns? Dang this scale felt like the perfect opportunity to include those...

This will almost certainly be available worldwide, exclusive to a particular retailer in each country.
Looks quite basic. They couldn’t even give it the inscription about being worthy?
thats the worst aprils fools joke I've seen, wait...
Big fan of the MCU but this looks like one of the most boring and pointless sets ever.

It's not. Available from LEGO.com worldwide starting 01 March, and in addition an exclusive retailer in each country.
Clealry aimed at adults, which is fine, but the amount of times you would have to hide the damn thing to stop people (without doubt) attempting to swing that thing around and inevitably smash it against something (especially if drinks are involved) renders it a no-buy for me!
And I say this cos I know I would do it if someone had it at their place ;)
Not overall that interesting for me personally, but the Vidiyo beatbox handle forming the strap on the end is very nice parts usage!

Yes, this is a useless item that no one will buy, not, I don’t know, a model of an iconic prop from the current most popular franchise in the world, released by the biggest toy company in the world as part of one of their most profitable licensing deals
Is that one of the vidiyo beat box straps as the handle loop? Neat.
This is a good extension of the display series, like the infinity gauntlet last year. And while it will cost more than the advent calendar, I'm glad to see another set with a complete infinity gauntlet thrown in.
STOP!
Hammer time!
I'm seeing so much negativity towards this set and while I understand that, personally I like it.
I’m liking this new line of MCU ‘props’, after the Infinity Gauntlet and now Mjolnir.
What’s next? Dr. Strange’s Eye of Agamotto maybe?
Are those road plates in the display base? That's not gonna be a reasonably-priced set, is it?
You can not be serious that this is a set. It is a MOC.
To be honest... Good build but lack of ornaments on slopes make it veryyy borring
@Huw the photo is cropped!!! There is no Tesseract.
The parts budget for the small builds could've instead been used to embellish the hammer with optional lightning bolt effects.
It's not bad but seems like a missed opportunity to use drum lacquered silver pieces, no ornaments or anything... 100€ is too much for this.
I think it's neat :) I don't think I'll be buying it, but I'm sure there's plenty who will.
Is that a new hair piece for Thor or just odd lighting on the old Dastan one?

Agreed, the 6x6 LBG tiles alone might make this worth a purchase after it goes on sale or clearance.
"
Not too interesting, but I'll definitely be grabbing it at some point. Will go nicely with the Infinity Gauntlet and Iron Man Helmet.
Plus the fact they're willing to go larger than the $60-$70 range gives me renewed hope for something I'd buy day one - a large Captain America shield!
Nobody comments on the inside of the hammer, possibly a hidden vignette, a room... Does seem quite interesting to me...
Sorry, but I'm not worthy.
bit bland

It seems to be literally the small plate with the eternal flame, (fake) Infinity glove and tesserect (a minecraft head) seen in the Asgard vault from the Thor films. I mean... it's a nice inclusion, but what is there to say?
I concur that the model really needs something to represent the decoration on mjolnir`. IDK how they could have made it at this scale, but right now it looks incomplete and simple.
Also, I must say that this is once again not my cup of tea. At this point they might as well do a collection of replicas of Harry Potter wands. Sure, they would be unexiting to look at and build... but they're replicas of famous props! Well, at least this model is more varied in shape and texture than that at least. The designer did an okay job given the source material and probably ludicrous price bracket.
Surprised by the strongly negative reaction, since it's clear that Lego is fully in on the prop replica game now, and as far as props go it looks pretty good! Main issue I'd see is the entire lack of any kind of metallic quality to the hammer's head, but I'm not surprised they didn't include it.
See that's another case of "Not everyhing that can be built out of Lego should be a set". This is especially true for prop replicas which should be as screen-accurate as possible. I'd rather go with Eaglemoss for half the price.
https://shop.eaglemoss.com/de/hero-collector/marvel/marvel-museum
They didn't even bother to add the runic decorations on the hammer ends via prints or stickers, that strap from Vidiyo is so short you can barely fit 2 Fingers through and the matte tiles next to regular ones will look crap. This should have cost 100€ max. not 120.
For 120 I'd expect metallic silver like they did with the Infinity Gauntlet.
It would have been great if they made the Gauntlet on the right hand because it would have been more accurate, Thor: Ragnarok it's revealed that it's right hand, also making it exclusive piece.
Or, as it’s known in the world of the Matrix, “the Hammer”. Because apparently nobody in M2/M3 could actually pronounce the real name, so they just gave up.
@LDN:
It happened at Brickworld Chicago, in 2015, 2017, or 2019 (it was a year I missed). I don’t remember who build the MOC, but Kevin Hinkle (former community liaison for NA) picked it up and pretended like he was about to smash something with it...and the head wasn’t firmly mounted to the handle (display piece, you know?) and didn’t stop when Kevin did. It smashed right into one of Simon Liu’s spaceships and just about obliterated it. The best part is someone was actually recording the whole thing, so there’s video of it out there somewhere (BTW, Simon was totally cool about it, which isn’t surprising, considering he once ran a Space version of the Battleship board game, where participants had to provide their own MOCs to represent the various ships, and smash them on the ground if they were “sunk”).

Those are the 4+ plates
So much negativity? I like Mjolnir and I think this looks kinda cool.
Now is it "I'm gonna buy it day one" cool? Maybe not...but still kinda cool...
I'm guessing Captain's shield next & angry Hulk bust.
Nobody is excited that the 6x6 tiles will be more readily available now?
It’s not like BL was swimming in them.
Finally! An affordable USC AT-AT!

The dude just gave an opinion. Why must you nearly always dismiss others for having a different view? Look up all the news on Brickset about new Lego sets and for sure your name is to pop up in the comments section, dissing other fans. Leave other people be, you sound like a bully.
I'm not particular crazy about this set, because the subject doesn't interest me and I find the franchise boring movies (nope, not even a comic fan). Still think it's well designed, but won't run out to buy it, not even on clearance.
There, was that so bad?
Not my thing. Just not a fan of these big display pieces.
Seems like a good parts pack.
Information has now been published on LEGO.com and this set costs £104.99 or €119.99. I thought $99.99 seemed expensive, but the European prices are inexplicable.
I would raher have more lightsabers from Star Wars movies. This looks dull.
I mean, it's not a bad idea ... but aren't they just spamming the infinity gauntlet and gem pieces, now?
£104.99? They having a laugh or what.
I'm not getting the hate. I'm fine with "not my cup of tea" comments, but the active disapproval around here is over my head.
I, for one, kind of like it, and I've got a birthday coming up.
Cool paper weight.

It's Mjölnir, Paul Rudd referred it 'Jonathan' when he was asked its name in an interview.
Wow, lots of negative reactions!
Yes, I think there are some improvements that could be made, but I'm a fan overall. I'll be getting this model and hope that Lego continues these recent "prop replica" type of builds!
Sometimes when I'm writing a comment on the internet, I read it and think 'would I enjoy reading this if someone directed it at me?'. If the answer is no, I delete it. I don't always manage to get it right, but I do try.
If you don't like something, try and find a way to express that that isn't unpleasant or rude. If nothing else, we know that several Lego designers follow the site, and honestly no one wants their work to be called garbage. Maybe you're just not the target audience.
Brickset has traditionally been a friendly and positive site, let's remember that we're here because of stuff we like. Obviously we don't all like everything, and that's okay. Just be kind, and respect others' tastes and opinions.
And just to keep this vaguely on topic, I think what doesn't quite look right for me is the lack of the engraving on the angled ends. I can see why it was omitted, but it's a bit plain without it. Maybe real photos will make it look better.
That large tile in the middle along with the six other tiles surrounding it could’ve easily been given stickers to decorate with runic symbols or have an option of them as prints to swap out.
Even the large tile could’ve had an alternate one print with Thors worthy quote.
Needs a hidden latch that locks it into the base, that could be unlatched by "worthy" individuals.

well I'll look forward to the youtube videos of people smashing it against a wall and watching it explode

Oh very good XD
the Endgame faceprint does not fit "Thor 1" at all, how lazy
BTW, does anyone else think we need an improved minifigure-scaled Mjolnir by now? The 2012 basic hammer design is a little tired at this point and I'd love to see a dual-molded piece with a brown, ribbed handle. I may be asking for too much, but if the MCU CMF series 2 came with a Bro Thor figure, that'd be the place to do it.
I'm not a fan of the Marvel movies, so I normally skip right over these news posts. I do the same for all Harry Potter and the vast majority of Star Wars sets. However, I know a lot of people will be very thrilled to see something that makes them happy represented in Lego, so not for a single solitary second would I consider adding negativity into the world by coming in here, to a news story with subject matter that does not interest me and leave the typical "who cares, what is this crap, this is ugly, why doesn't Lego make [instead terrible suggestion here] instead" comments. Why would you? Seriously, why???
I'm not saying that nasty comments are likely to shame somebody away from getting a set they would enjoy or anything like that. But I'm already rolling my eyes thinking ahead to the comment section when Lego announces the rumored Horizon Longneck set, a set for which I am extremely excited from a media property that I love, and imagine the inevitable whining negative comments from people who don't know or care about Horizon. You can set your watch to it at this point, it's just ridiculous how predictable it all is. Rather than just engaging with other excited people in the comments, I'll have to spend some of my time and mental energy reading comments from people with zero stakes or care in the set who nonetheless feel like complaining in the comments. It won't affect my ultimate enjoyment of the set when it comes out, but it makes me sad that people can't just be nice.
Now, I'm totally on board with reasonable constructive criticism. There are people here who are clearly interested in the set that have complaints about it not being ideal in one way or another. I think that's fine. But what's the point of the toilet comment? And the person defending the toilet guy, as if countering somebody else's negativity is actually the REAL negativity (lol, where have I seen this logic before, hmmm).
Alright I'm done. Just be cool. Golden Rule, always. Or else when they announce a castle or space theme I'll start spamming the comments with "terrible, who would ever want this, maybe I'll pick it up as a parts pack."

My username clearly states how much I am interested in this set. That is, until I saw the price. 120 euros for what I see seems like a very bad joke from Lego.

I’m guessing with it at $99usd to euros it’d be about $89euros.
Then I’m guessing you guys have your vat tax added in which gets you to that $119-129 euro price.
Here in US we’d add about another roughly 8 - 9% tax (depending on where you live) so the hammer at checkout would be $108usd.
Dear Lego,
Much as I love your seemingly endless capacity for new March releases, would it be possible to set aside a little forgotten corner of the factory to produce a few Home Alone and Titanic restocks.
Thanks in advance.
Not for me. And as someone not familiar with the Marvel movies, if the name of the set had not been in the headline I would have thought it was some sort of factory with a large chimney.
This set is not worthy. At least to many people. One of the worst and most boring sets / idea ever imo. Even worse than the world map and shoe. Unless the price is really low, which is very unlikely. Not really sure what lego is thinking. Would be far better if they picked an extra idea set than this. Maybe more interesting if they make cap's shield, ironman's glove, etc.
(The song "I Had a Hammer" has a first section which is oddly what came to mind when seeing this set, most of it fits the theme, but the last lines don't... oh well. It's in my head, and now, it's in yours too. Your welcome!)
"If I had a hammer

I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between
My brothers and my sisters, ah-ah

Overall this looks good. I hope it is more solid compared to most MOCs I've seen. I've given thought to building one, but wasn't sure how structurally sound I Could make it because it is pointless to have it just on a shelf when you'd want to wield it (like the Mega Halo energy sword).
To the people upset about LEGO producing a "weapon," it isn't like any of are worthy enough to wield it, right so...
Also, anything can be a weapon. You could use LEGO bricks to kill someone (probably), so this is an iconic prop from a movie. If they were releasing LOTR swords (although that'd be cool) or blasters from SW, maybe I could see more anger toward it.
I don't know. *shrug*
Target is primarily a department store with a modest grocery section, but there are "Super Target" locations that have a full grocery adjoining the department store sections. It's complicated.
Another spit on the tomb of Jens Nygaard Knudsen.
The Australian Lego.com has this up now, it's $179.99 AUD and available for pre-order with delivery from March 1. I think it looks cool, is much larger then I expected so may not site well next to the gauntlet but will likely get it anyway, just at the mid year sales when someone has it for 25% off!

I scroll through these comment sections to get tips, links to useful websites or other bits of info, to get a general idea how something is perceived by other Lego fans. But it's becoming more and more a bully corner where others have to be shamed for having a (different) opinion. And when somebody reacts to that or defends somebody else, you gang up on them. That, my friend, is sheer bully tactics.
Have some basic respect, that’s all I’m saying. If you can’t understand that, I can’t help you.
Great minifig! And the little sidebuilds are ok too, especially the gauntlet. The rest is completely useless.
Yes, it's a hammer.
The problem with the negative comments is that some of you are acting like your parents just served you gruel. Or worse, that you're being served ice cream at a table where 9 of the 10 kids want ice cream and you're the one guy who wants pie.
Lego owes you nothing.
You're not obligated to buy this.
It doesn't appeal to you, but it might (and does) appeal to someone else.
And lastly, given enough time and repetition, negativity infectiously hits everyone else. People call it "being a suck" for a reason.

Your point would be a bit stronger if the first poster wasn't also super rude. If you're comparing a set to a toilet, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect someone to say "hey, maybe it isn't." Like, when someone says "this is rubbish" and someone responds with "here's a list of reasons as to why it isn't rubbish," I don't see how you can call that 'bullying.'

Technically I think Target actually is. They have household goods and a grocery section. The term “supermarket” has kind of drifted into “just a grocery store” territory in the US.

Not that it’s of any relation to this topic, but I disagree about Target not being a supermarket. I suppose it depends on your definition of a supermarket, but target sells food and other perishable goods like all other stores now. By definition a supermarket is defined by a store that sells food and household goods. Plus, the days of a store just being a grocery store in the US are gone. Most all stores that have groceries now have other things too.

Coming soon.... Magic Dragons....
That's some very strange looking pricing. Maybe Target insisted on a lower price and got it due to their purchasing power? Though you'd have thought they'd have kept a standard RRP in that case and just kept it almost permanently discounted.
It's hard for me to understand why a quite boring looking hammer would have mass market appeal, particularly at the asking price. I know price to part ratio isn't everything but this is especially poor value by that measure. Are Marvel fans known to be especially easy to separate from their money? Or it's just popular enough that a sufficient number of fans will spend that much maybe.
First time I recall hearing Target described as a "supermarket". It's more of a department store. The supermarket section is only a small fraction of the retail space.
What the hell we fighting for?
Just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
While your waiting for the hammer to Hammer To Fall
Not for me have plenty of grey tiles already, and there has being too many choices with the flood of new sets that I doubt I will ever see this set!
This is drifting into a very weird conversation.
As I use it, "supermarket" tends to be synonymous with "grocery store," meaning "store that primarily sells food and food-related items." Some of the larger grocery stores do sell household items (e.g., light bulbs, cleaning supplies, maybe small electronics, toys, and greeting cards), but the primary intent of the store is food.
"Department Store" tends to be a multi-purpose store that sells clothes, toys, electronics, housewares, and *maybe* secondarily has food. The classic "big" department stores are places like Macy's and Sears, but Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart tend to be classified as department stores as well.
A "convenience store" tends to have items for people who need small items in a pinch. They're typically ready-made hot foods (usually hot dogs, but sometimes you'll find hamburgers, fried chicken, or something else), but will occasionally have fruit, sandwiches, or a few other things. They'll otherwise have items that somebody might need on short notice which are shy of the expansiveness of a full supermarket, such as milk, eggs, toilet paper, sodas, beer, and maybe canned goods.
I'm sure there's a blur where a large enough C-Mart starts to look like a grocery store, or a grocery store starts selling a lot of stuff outside its primarily food mission, but the demarcations I've laid out here are normally pretty clear to people.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

It means the set will only be sold by Target and LEGO in the U.S., instead of being available from many different LEGO retailers like normal. The lone retailer varies by country. I don't know the marketing logic behind it, but it's not uncommon for certain LEGO sets to be assigned to one particular seller such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, or B&N as a retail exclusive.

As mentioned earlier, the association of the terms 'market' or 'supermarket' to just groceries is a U.S.-centric one. In other countries, they probably apply the term 'market' more generally. In the U.S. we call Target a big-box store or a superstore. Even the term department store is not applicable because product sections are not isolated into departments.

Every target I’ve been in has departments. They may not call them that, but there is definitely a toy department, an electronics department, and clothes departments.
Tremendously boring.

@LDN:
The best part is someone was actually recording the whole thing, so there’s video of it out there somewhere (BTW, Simon was totally cool about it, which isn’t surprising, considering he once ran a Space version of the Battleship board game, where participants had to provide their own MOCs to represent the various ships, and smash them on the ground if they were “sunk”)."

Now that we have an official useless hammer set, the LEGO Toilet seems much more likely now."
Yes, this is a useless item that no one will buy, not, I don’t know, a model of an iconic prop from the current most popular franchise in the world, released by the biggest toy company in the world as part of one of their most profitable licensing deals"
Everything is awesome with you, isn't it ?
The dude just gave an opinion. Why must you nearly always dismiss others for having a different view? Look up all the news on Brickset about new Lego sets and for sure your name is to pop up in the comments section, dissing other fans. Leave other people be, you sound like a bully.
I'm not particular crazy about this set, because the subject doesn't interest me and I find the franchise boring movies (nope, not even a comic fan). Still think it's well designed, but won't run out to buy it, not even on clearance.
There, was that so bad?"
I take no issue with comments such as yours, which offer an actual perspective on the set and why you don't like it. What irks me are the inevitable comments complaining about the perceived uselessness of absolutely anything that they don't personally like. I apologize if my comments come across as rude, that's not at all my intention. My intention is never to shame anyone for disliking something, I am simply annoyed by the constant complaining that LEGO doesn't know what they're doing, and that every new set that isn't a castle or spaceship is "useless" and that no one will buy them, despite the fact that something must be working for them to continually produce stuff like this.
So let's see pictures of the Gauntlet holding this beauty so we can see scale. Also throw in a banana while we are at it.
I wonder if you could hold nails inside of the head.
Boring set that could have been better. Might not even come to Brazil, but nothing will be lost, unlike the Monkie Kid line for example.
But the worst part for me is that Thor minifig. For some reason he looks so bad to me, probably that weird hair that does not fit with the face...

I want to have ANY lightsabers. So far I’ve been unable to score any of those. LEGO needs to get those into the general releases at full scale.
I still want this though.
I like it. I hope my post man is worthy though.

Dear Lego,
Much as I love your seemingly endless capacity for new March releases, would it be possible to set aside a little forgotten corner of the factory to produce a few Home Alone and Titanic restocks.
Thanks in advance."
nah, who needs a Titanic if you can get a HAMMER?! (Ok, a very boring and ugly one, but still...)
And the best thing is that you can get 5 hammers for the price of 1 Titanic!
These prices are getting ridiculous, 1499 SEK here in Sweden, equal to $161.

"Sometimes when I'm writing a comment on the internet, I read it and think 'would I enjoy reading this if someone directed it at me?'.

Better to keep quiet and have people think you are an idiot
Then write cr @p on a web forum and prove them right.
Why are you all so serious? Wait, wrong movie…
But yeah, I do like this, particularly the hall of relics. It’s not a day one purchase, but I like it overall.

There’s no universally accepted classification of retail types. Most though distinguish between supermarkets (sub-categorised by size), department stores and mass merchandisers (also known as mass market retailers) among other categories (e.g. speciality). Target is normally classed as a mass merchandiser/mass market retailer. It is neither a supermarket (or ‘food/non-food retailer’) nor a department store; supermarkets predominantly retail food and FMCG, while department stores have different formats, locations, buying models, pricing models and service levels than mass merchandisers.
For someone who's not a fan of the movie this set is as boring looking as it gets, but I don't even get how it would appeal to someone who likes the movie given the price and just how bland this looks. It's not the build's fault since it nicely emulates the prop, but the prop itself is so simple that when translated to Lego it just seems incredibly dull. I'm a rabid fan of 2001: A Space Odyssey fan but if Lego produced a $100 set of the monolith I'd feel quite insane paying that much for a big black Lego rectangle.
Why didn't they add the designs along the edges? If you remove those from Mjolnir, yeah, it looks just like this - a plain, gray rectangle. Even if they just included a set of stickers, it would be infinitely better looking on a shelf. :-/
Oooh it’s meow meow!
I wonder if there's a step in the instruction book where you are told to 'put the hammer down'. YOU WANT ME TO PUT THE HAMMER DOWN??!!
This whole classification of stores is extremely amusing to me, especially since it’s such a minor thing in a completely unrelated article, and the offense some people seem to have over it is bewildering. What stores are classified as now has become rather antiquated the US; before when you had strictly grocery stores (food), and department stores (clothes and other similar items in departments), it’s become less and less of a distinction. Many “grocery stores” now carry other household items, while many “department stores” have done away with departments and just have sections/aisles, including food. So the lines are blurred here. Ultimately it doesn’t matter. It’s a store.

Taking a guess here: the ornamentation on the sides is so elaborate that it wouldn't look great on either stickers or printing, since it'd have to either run to the edge of each brick OR only go partway, but risk poor alignment.
In looking at this closely, it seems to have a closer resemblance to the comic Mjolnir rather than the MCU one (which has more runes and a more ribbed handle). The comic version is typically plain, other than sometimes but not always showing the "worthy" inscription.
@Brickalili said:
"Looks quite basic. They couldn’t even give it the inscription about being worthy?"
Glow in the dark stickers?? heh.. looks nice as a paper weight.
Tower of Fate would have been a better set

Prop replica by Museum Replicas is hand crafted from aged steel and has a wood handle, a perfect replica for me.
