Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 2

Posted by ,

Star-Lord arrived to launch the Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar on day one, suitably. An interesting vehicle to accompany the hero would be welcome today.

What lies behind door number two...?

Of course, Peter would never leave for adventure without his Walkman, so the accessory arrives today. This intricate assembly includes an exclusive printed 1x2 tile, featuring an Awesome Mix cassette, which looks superb. The brackets are seemingly intended to form buttons and dials on the sides, although the accessory becomes rather bulky with them.

A wrapped gift is also provided and contains a pair of dark tan headphones! These are a lovely addition and fit snugly around the minifigure's neck, as normal. A spare headphones element is included too, with a couple of dark tan 1x1 round tiles. One of these should be placed inside the present, according to the instructions image, but I am unsure why.

Overall - Today's item is small, but nonetheless appealing for the excellent Awesome Mix cassette alone!

I think the Mighty Micros Set with Star Lord Nebula had that cassette tile - good to see it being used again though!

The one in that set was just the plain cassette, this version has extra detail to look like it's inside a cassette player.

Small but nice! These accessories are nice to build up to a figure! :D

I'm wondering if the 1x1 round is supposed to represent the headphone jack or a bluetooth adapter for the headphones?

That cassette player is bigger than his torso.

@eMouse:
Quill got abducted back in the 70’s or 80’s. Bluetooth wasn’t a thing back then, so his headphones have a physical cord.

ghetto blaster would have speakers either side of the cassette? I remember longing for one from the Argos catalogue for so long. What I actually got for my birthday was a cheap 'walkman' equivalent that was almost the size of a brick! Scale wise that's the one Star Lord has got too!

Not very Jurassic World. Since when does Owen Grady like music?

@Zordboy it's the casette not the player. The player we get later

It would be good if there was at least one image of just what you get in a particular day. So without the minifigure in this case. Fair enough to show them together in additional images, but for comparing calendars day to day it should clear what you get each day.

To me it looks like it is meant to be some sort of walkman. If it was just the cassette tape, they could have included just the tile along with the present and the headphones.

Maybe the 1x1 round tiles inside the present are meant to represent replacement ear bud things, the rubber bits that slot over the speakers of headphones."

Not a spoiler. It's on the cover of the box

And the Guardians have been to Earth since then. So a newer wireless headset would need an adapter to work with an old Walkman.

I see the tile as being a part of the packaging, but 70s and 80s were before my time.

It's definitely meant to be a Walkman, as apparent by the suggested headphone jack and headphones. Yes, it's oversized, but so it the cassette tape. Also, I have a feeling we might be getting a boombox later on... ;-)

I think the tile is representing the cord of the headphones
