Marvel Advent Calendar - Day 4
Posted by CapnRex101,
While the Kyln guard drone emerging yesterday was reasonably detailed and definitely accurate, something more memorable would be good on day four.
Hopefully today's item will impress...
Weapons racks have traditionally been restricted to bothersome appearances in Star Wars Advent Calendars, so this addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy calendar is disappointing. The hammer and pearl silver wrench are both commonplace, while the bundled dynamite sticks are awkwardly secured using a droid arm. I do like the sand blue footing though, at least.
Overall - 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar has been a little underwhelming so far and this equipment rack does nothing to improve things.

Lame!
Even for the ubiquitous weapon rack, this is a poor effort.
What?
I couldn't agree more with you Cap about weapon racks, but, wow, this a new low! How is this even related to GOTG? If this was a Marvel calendar and tomorrow's door was a microbuild of Tony Stark's workshop / hotrod, then it would make sense. But this is laughably dull and lacking imagination. I score it 0.5 out of 5.

What merits the .5?
My immediate reaction when opening this today. “Man, the people in the comment section are going to be pissed”. No spoilers because I honestly don’t know but I assume we are getting Rocket tomorrow.
Next there will be a weapons rack for HP sets.... Just a bunch of wands scattered loosely about.
Friends needs a weapon rack too!
This is the worst dinosaur I've ever seen! There's a huge hole in the middle, the 'head' is off center and looks up, the tail is next to the head, and it has only one arm! At least the feet are nice and stompy! And why is the dinosaur holding dynamite? As an explanation that its other arm blew off?
Weird beardless Santa Owen Grady with side reindeer-shoes is still very much the only Jurrassic World thing about this calender.
0/10
Ugh, this has to be up there with worst Day ever! At least SW racks come with WEAPONS! Weapons became somewhat rare during the stud-shooting era of battlepacks. But this, this, this.... is just so ridiculously lame and useless... it defies description.
In our family, we all pick an AC to do, and we kind of compete with each other for who got the best day. Boy, we laughed and laughed at this one. Poor sucker!
Really, the designer should be ashamed!
I'm liking the GotG calendar so far, lots more to come. Today's was a little disappointing but to claim it's 'all' been disappointing is nonsense, especially with the love in for Harry potter's 2 tile car rubbish.
All for abstract appreciation but some of the reviews of the calendars this year are very much out of tune with comments.

The fact that it is still LEGO.
What would merit the .5? My answer would be at least we have a stick of dynamite to blow this thing up.
Last year in Marvel, the low was Day 2 with those Iron Man accessories that were not really a build and we all already had a lot of in our collections. Hopefully it only goes up from here.

A Friend's weapon rack would comprise a syringe to heal a stricken animal, a brush to stroke a tired horse and a pair of scissor to cut rebellious hair.

Friends don't let Friends have weapons racks!
Despite this being "Just a tool rack", given whats we're still due to see in the set, I think it makes sense as a play feature.
Okay, so its not a great build, but at least you can tell what it is.
Like, damn, it’s not even a good weapon rack. At least some of the Star Wars ones tried to be interesting in appearance or build, this is just lazy

75964 Day 24 and 76390 Day 15 would like a word with you…
I still can't believe that I had the klyn drone upside down on display the whole time!
Not related to today’s build, but did anyone’s else’s Star-lord come with silver marks/scuffs on the jacket flap and dark brown ones on various parts of the torso?
Edit: looks like the brown scuffs are the lines that are supposed to be there, but the print doesn’t seem complete
I wanted to comment on yesterday's drone actually, but the comment section is closed there.
The instructions were upside down, but that's not the point I'm going to make.
The fact that these instructions have such a high difficulty level compared to almost any other regular set makes me wonder: if builders are considered smart enough, then why do the instructions need to be so overly simplified?
This set makes me want to beat up grass.
@Wrecknbuild:
More importantly, if people are lamenting instructions that are “too easy”, why aren’t the same people praising AC instructions like yesterday’s drone? Not only do you have to infer parts of the build based on what you have left vs which parts are likely spares, but then you have to figure out what you just built!
Basically what it comes down to, I believe, is that some builders want instructions that make them feel smarter than other people, without actually being legitimately challenging. If you really want a challenge, try building a MOC that’s more complicated than sets of a similar size. It’s like starting a puzzle without knowing if there’s even a solution.
