Harry Potter Advent Calendar - Day 22

Posted by ,

Nearing the end of 76404 Harry Potter Advent Calendar, we reach The Deathly Hallows Part II, which has only been represented by two LEGO sets, with a third coming in 2023.

Scenes selected for this Advent Calendar could hint towards LEGO's focus for future sets...

I certainly hope so, given Gringott's Wizarding Bank and the Ukrainian Ironbelly are probably the most desirable potential additions to the Harry Potter range! Gringotts is constructed fairly simply here, with 1x2 profile bricks creating some texture behind two columns. The shape of the building also leaves something to be desired, but these issues are totally overshadowed by the excellent dragon placed on top, which is exceptionally detailed for its size.

Overall - Gringotts could have included greater detail, but the Ukrainian Ironbelly looks fantastic and I am pleased to see this scene portrayed.

I'm not sure what this is missing, or maybe rather, an effective microscale Gringotts just isn't possible on a 2x4 plate. Maybe if the 2x2 white bricks were textured instead of flat, there'd be a little more sense of architecure?

Maybe reversed headlight bricks, to look like windows. It would be hard to get the shape right though, it's a narrow front.

Both are very good suggestions. But, boy, this is cool! Can't wait for a minifig scale version. Lego, take our money!

Definitely in the "instantly recognisable" pile for me

I think I'm not liking that this is on a reddish brown base. It might help to put some dark bley plates and tiles on the bottom to give a sense of a stone/concrete foundation.

It needs a transparent dome too. The more common R2 head has been in that color, I have no idea why they went with a solid white R5 head here instead.

CALLED IT!

Great to see a representation of it!

Not sure f it would be feasible, but I would love to see them releasing Gringotts in a way that it could be added to the existing Diagon Alley set

Pretty impressive how recognizable this is at such a small scale. HP designers know what they're doing.

Me too

By in United States,

And they finally made a set based on the Gringotts dragon.

@ecleme11:
I don't see what would be so difficult. Gringotts would be across the street, so it wouldn't even need to connect to the others. Unless you used some of the road packs, that is...

The base color corresponds to the movie, for gameplay purposes.

@nrith:
The plate on the very bottom does, yes. Olivander’s has a light-bley tile added to the front of the base. The Knight Bus and the Hall of Prophecies have a full layer of black, the Dementors have a mix of sand-green and medium-azure, and the Goblet of Fire is covered in tan (the Year 1 base color). Hagrid’s motorcycle covered the entire base except where you can see it through the clear 1x1 round brick that supports the motorcycle, and Slughorn fills the entire base. So they could have added a layer to better represent the ground in Diagon Alley. On the other hand, it’s easily the tallest model in this calendar, and the only other two that can’t lay flat in the tray are Quidditch and the Dementors. Both have parts you can rotate to allow them to do so, but Gringotts is a solid 16 plates tall even when you lower the wings. Anyone who plans to store the game pieces in the box would have trouble doing so if they raised the height a full plate.

I understand that. You could add some bley pieces on top of the brown.
