Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 10
Posted by CapnRex101,
The charming C-3PO minifigure that arrived on day nine continued the exceptional standard of this year's Star Wars Advent Calendar, so I hope day ten proves similarly satisfying.
Let's open the door and see...
I think the chain of excellent mini models finally breaks today, although this version of a moisture vaporator is not bad. Surprisingly, they have appeared in three past Advent Calendars and this is the simplest design, with four chiller bars arranged around the central spire. White would perhaps have been a more accurate colour and the vaporators on Tatooine only include three chiller bars, but the general shape is good.
Overall - This is definitely my least favourite of the items from the Star Wars Advent Calendar so far, though still reasonable.

Multifunctional Weapon Rack, Coat Rack , Antenna etc.
With those gun-like weapons, my heart skipped a beat. I thought we had another weapons rack for a moment!
Threepio did understand the binary language that these things use, so I definitely get the inclusion. Still, a recognizable build. The GoG Advent Calendar is having a huge issue with this right now.
If nothing else, it seems to be roughly to scale with the landspeeder from the other day.
Kinda silvery, like aluminum. Speaking of which, yesterday marked the 67th anniversary of the death knell of aluminum Christmas trees, which were growing very popular, right up until some bald kid looked at them and said, “Meh, I’d rather use a twig.”
Would have been nice if they used more 'festive' colours for this.
Perhaps this is how they celebrate Festivus on Tatooine...
OK, I have no idea how to buff this thing up. When an AC build is a little weak, I'll aim to improve it by adding kibble until it looks "more" correct, understanding the limits of Lego and microscale.
Does anyone have ANY idea how to use some kibble to make this thing better? The hose pieces were just the wrong thing to use for the vaporator arms.
Uncle Owen would be proud of this!

FESTIVUS!!!
Next up, feats of strength. Which- for you footy fans- the 3 kitties will need to escape the terror of M'mmm bop and the rest of les coqs.
Not the best for this AC. But, I dig the parts.

Yeah, I agree the hose parts are off. Off the top of my head, it might be a slight improvement with exoforce claws and a 3l bars? At least the bars will be a bit longer; I think they're too short on this model (or at the very least, they should run further down)

I understand WHY they chose to do a GotG calendar, considering the TV special, but it was a poor choice. The source material is too limiting for a ln advent calendar.
I had a second thought, and I think it’s kind of an inside joke of the designer, moisture vaporator but playing on the universal hate towards weapon racks. If that was indeed an intent, it is a brilliant inclusion.
Just a sign of the exceptional standard of the AC this year, when this is the worst build.
I'll take it and be grateful for a great calendar overall!
I refuse to consider this a weapons rack.
Must do better!
Nice parts nonetheless!
Agreed with the consensus that it’s the least impressive build in this AC so far, but it’s really not bad at all; the others are just more impressive builds (and/or “more exciting” subject matter). If this is the nadir of this AC, it’ll be one of the better ACs they’ve had, and possibly the best one within the SW theme.
So… the first six days’ gifts are all stuff associated with the Clone Wars, from its beginning to its end and immediate aftermath. The following four are all things associated with Tatooine (save for Threepio’s festive sweater). Could we have two more Tatooine things for days 11 and 12, followed by a move to a new theme for the next quarter of the calendar?
This isn't terribly exciting, but it's certainly recognizable.
I think some people have unrealistic ideas about what an advent calendar item should be. It needs to use a small number of pieces, and the instructions need to fit on the inside of the flap- so they will be simple.
I mean, an advent calendar where each day has the equivalent to a Microfighter- a minifigure and around 100 pieces- would be awesome... but it would likely cost $250.
I'm building this year's models without looking at the instructions. So I have to guess what it is from the parts and then build it. This turned out way better than I was expecting, but when I checked the instructions, I had the bottom two pieces the wrong way round.
However... it does look soooo much better with the 1x1 round brick on top of the square brick.
I think it's part of a scheme to find as many uses for the ski pole as possible. That's the third model with one in this calendar
I had all the hose parts facing down! I'll have to change that...

I was just going to say, it feels like there's been a ski pole in almost every model so far, this year.
I'm disappointed. Not only does 3P0 have to go another day without his counterpart, but it's the first build that's neither a minifig nor swooshable!
Lego has fully committed to giving us as many ski poles as possible in this year's calendar.

I knew the day would come when the audience finally gets and appreciates my jokes! ;)
