My parents always told me money didn't grow on trees. My mind is blown!

What's next? No Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy?

Curious to see what the price will look like here. Seems pretty good value.

Dreams really do come true - Money now grows on trees!

$25 seems pretty fair! I might actually pick this one up! Although one thing concerns me...those are prints, right?

They look like prints on every image, including the real photo!

Hey, it's how LEGO views us when they reveal a $500 set.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Ironically this is one Lego set where you don't need a money tree to afford it.

By in Norway,

Great partspack for next halloween!

That Sticker sheet is gonna be bigger than the box it comes in!! ?????? Xx

By in United States,

it's crazy to actually see a set released that seems like a good value. I just wish Lego was heading in this direction but as we all know it's the opposite. bigger and more expensive even though it seems like that's not what most Lego fans want. so many possibilities with this $25 set. for sure one I'll be picking up for the kiddos

By in United States,

Definitely worth the price if those coins & envelopes are printed, otherwise it will be the sticker sheet from h e double toothpicks.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

A monkey tree would be cool. (Not a monkey puzzle tree.)

All the new CTF sets are excellent parts packs! Prices seem very fair for them. Lunar display a little pricey but great parts there too.

There are no stickers, all printed parts.

Oh wow, this is great! I hope it stays well stocked because I think this one is going to be quite popular. Looks fantastic, full of great parts too.

By in United States,

Excellent! I need a money tree in order to afford Lego now days! How fast does it grow the money?

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set is cute, albeit a little simple compared to other botanical sets (probably because it's meant as a gift with a wider target age range). The printed coins and envelopes from this set also appear in smaller quantities in 80111 New Year Parade, though, so I'll maybe skip this one and opt for the bigger set instead.

Not to be confused with the popular tropical houseplant species, this DIY “money tree” symbolizes wealth, auspiciousness, and good fortune in Chinese culture

Your comment is contrary to what Lego is doing here by teaching about Chinese culture

They stole my paper boat design? Not really, but if you take those gold ornaments, pop the jumper plate and radar dish off, replace them with two cheese wedges, and make the whole thing white, that’s the paper boat design I came up for Piglet in my Poohneywise vignette.

@gunther_schnitzel:
Monkey paw tree?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Since there's so many of that same design, rest assured knowing they are prints, not stickers.

If they were stickers, this would be a very unpopular set.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think this is beautiful.

I'm guessing this is going to be a gift-with-purchase next year, like all the best sets tend to be?

Nice literary reference.

Great set design, parts, and no stickies. Will get two.

Excellent set for an excellent price. Brings the total cost of the 3 CNY sets down to a fairly OK average. Definitely looking forward to ordering myself a triple Christmas Day present!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

So why should this be part of the Chinese New Year line? The set number is of a different range, there are no references to the Chinese New Year on the box.

Gravatar

A lot of faith that those aren't stickers. My money is on 10 stickers for the coins...

I'm gonna pass. I don't like building Lego trees.

False advertising! There's not a single monkey included in that set!

It’s not contrary, it’s a joke based on the name. :)

For this Chicom set, I'm thinking since The Money Tree symbolizes prosperity, good fortune, etc., it's something that can be gifted year round. Not just at New Years. I'm guessing though on the traditions, customs for this.

Gravatar

@StyleCounselor:
Yes, Poohneywise is a nice literary reference. Two, actually.

@merman:
Money trees have become tied to CNY tradition, but the LEGO theme has also strayed a tiny bit from being strictly Chinese New Year, which is why they refer to the sets as something like “Chinese Traditional Festival” instead.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I must be missing something because personally I don’t like it at all. Fair enough it’s cheap. But I think it looks terrible. If you take out the ‘great parts pack’ and ‘great low price’ thoughts, how good is the actual set?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Great set, and, like 40426 : Christmas Wreath 2-in-1 a great parts-pack as well

Take off the pumpkin/oranges and it's still a good minifig-scale tree as well.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I hope the coins are reasonably centered, these days I feel like I can sticker better than LEGO can print when it comes to anything circular. Or I've just had back luck with two archery targets and a clock all in a row.

Pretty cool set though. I could add a pumpkin patch and some more wood to my 31120 's

You're right on the money there, pun very much intended. For obvious reasons, we just emphasize and celebrate these symbolisms more around the New Year. But there's nothing stopping some of us from keeping these things around year round.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks like a pumpkin tree to me. Don't get me wrong, it's a cute set, but I can't not see pumpkins!!

For the same reason the Holiday Wreath and Christmas trees are considered Christmas sets even though they aren't numbered the same as the Winter Village sets. The subject matter is an icon related to the celebration of the Lunar New Year, whether or not it's numbered sequentially with or labeled similarly to the others.

Do you have to include that derogatory slur? You do know that CNY (which the Chinese call Lunar New Year) is also celebrated outside of China right?

Love it! It shall be mine!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

@Pekingduckman: Oh wow, as a diasporic Chinese it should've clicked for me what that word meant... I just looked it up. Thanks for calling that out. FWIW, where I live, CNY and LNY are interchangeable even for us.

The fruit is actually a small tangerine with a Chinese name that sounds similar to good luck, but the real fruit is round and not shaped like little pumpkins. So this is not good lol

I thought so too. Maybe the round ball element you see in the Friends 41713 Olivia's Space Academy. It's used for the sun in the orrery. Maybe too small for this scale of tree? Or there are larger ball elements that would've been better.
I like the tree but the 'tangerines' are too established as pumpkins in the lego world.
