There is something really wrong with the scale, making it look too bulky. And weird price. Is TLG experimenting with pricing? What do people find acceptable?

Unless I'm doing my math wrong, that's about 10 cents per piece, which is not out of the norm
The dark saber mould will deffo appear in future sets. (Is it a recoloured ninjago sword mould?) Only interested in the new Bo figure here
Wish they included a 1x1 print for the creepy eye, but otherwise it looks great. Hopefully the droid inside is included as well.
A Mandalorian set that doesn't look half-*ssed? unbelievable
The £47 price is basically the new £45 price (so price exchanges apply for different currencies).
This is from having seen prices for summer releases eg Technic cars that are now £45 will be £47 (please note I do not believe this means the current prices will be increasing).
This is under a 5% increase so personally I believe is acceptable, however the end-of -the-worlders on here I'm sure will be quick to disagree.
I'll continue to advocate for a "price per weight" metric as opposed to "price per piece."
I don't hate this, but as with a lot of things, it looks about $10 too high. Also, other than having Bo-Katan, there doesn't seem to be anything essential here, with the droid being a one-off monster of the week. If I spotted it on sale, sure, maybe.
Most Star Wars sets are oversized and overpriced or undersized and overpriced. This should have been a 20-30$ pricepoint and the snubfighter may have been better at a larger scale and pricepoint but surely none of the two are 50$ pricepoints.
Couldn't even acknowledge the cyborg alien pilot as it seems.
Nice to finally see a real darksaber and the alternate Bo-Katan with an azure helmet but those two points aren't really justifying that pricepoint. Really hoping for a STEEP desicount to make it at least 29,99
Good not Great. Surprised it is not more expensive. Might buy for the Bo-Katan Figure.
It's missing the General Grievous cerebral-spinal fluid consuming eyeball pilot. But, the new Mando helmet and Bo arm printing are nice.
Seems like it needs another fig to make it a decent set. Perhaps one of those Fraggle Rock human eaters?

My point is: it used to be €59.99 or €54.99 but €52.99 is a weird pricepoint
Looks good to me. There does seem to be a LOT of Technic parts going into those legs; it's either suspension or some kind of walking feature.
It's funny, I was just thinking about this scene -
"Y'know, they could make a set with - oh, ok they did"
No cyborg creature or cage underneath to put mando in? The darksaber mould is okay (there are better custom ones out there) and Bo Katan looks good, but overall it's a pretty underwhelming set.
Oh I like that. It looks like it would be nice to actually play with (something my son still does) rather than just look at.
Also it looks like a nice parts pack.
If it comes at 30-40% on Amazon I'll get it. I can't recall last time I have bought lego set at rrp and I think lego knows this, they go with ridiculous pricing for early adopters and then slash prices deeply for ones unwilling to go with inflated rrp.

The lego team has to work off concept art. If you compare it to the concept art at the end of the episode they did a pretty good job.
It looks interesting and disgusting, just like real spiders.

I 100% agree on the "price-per-weight" metric
I LOVE IT, but I want more pics

They experimenting with prices since 2012
There goes any resale value of the current Bo Katan figure.

That was my assumption. Thanks for confirming. It wouldn’t be too difficult to modify this into something more accurate to what was on screen.
Even still, this set is pretty neat all on its own.

Including her with a comic last month probably already did that.
Interesting, we got a Crab Droid here but not in the AT-TE and the Darksaber blade is amazing. It now needs a better hilt but it is a wonderful improvement. I hope we get that scavenger creature with the set and I belief LEGO will reveal one or more sets next week so as to keep the hype wave and avoid spoilers.
I heard this set is going to be called 'The Mines of Mandalore', so while it's a great model, there's nothing else to suggest it's set in a mine. I know the creature was IN the mine if you've seen the show but it feels like it could have done with a little bit of scenrery to theme it more.
I'm always wandering what could be the need to build such a piece of machinery. Ok the terrain is rough such that wheeled or tracked vehicles won't do so you build a walker; fine. Ok there was a need to pick up items in a rough environment where you might need to tear stuff apart so you build claws; fine. And the pincers? why on earth (or whatever planet you're on) do you need that?
I kind of understand it is part of the fun of sci-fi but still, I'm expecting my aliens to build useful and efficient stuff - not energy hungry, slow moving(AT-AT), easy targets.
The weight of the set is bending the rubber dampers on each leg by quite a bit (about a plate thick).
Neat set - until I saw the price. As everyone, I might consider it if amazon.ca discounts it sufficiently. I've not seen the show yet - I will binge-watch season 3 when the whole series will be available.
The episode featuring this vignette just dropped this week. That this couldn't have been timed better for a release closer to air date is a missed opportunity. "You saw it this week in March, now you can play with it...in AUGUST!"
Too expensive, but you betcha I'll be getting it.
Hope the darksaber and new Bo will be available in other sets, this one doesn't look too appealing.
I'm surprised the set wasn't cancelled at last minute due to the human sacrifice element.
The new Mando series already has more sets than Andor (1), Kenobi (2) and as much as BOBF (3) only after 2 weeks. Wow. Shame about Andor, that one set it got isn’t great, though understandable that kids wouldn’t have watched that series much and it wasn’t expected to do as good as other series. Kenobi’s lack of sets was strange though.
Won't buy it just to get the blade.
Looking at it, the darksaber after all this time is a bit disappointing imo. I don’t like how it uses the generic chunky lightsaber hilt for something that has repeatedly been established as being different to a lightsaber - the darksaber hilt is a lot more thinner looking. Why not go the full way with the new mold to make the hilt too instead of just the blade? Custom fan pieces for it are still better than what LEGO could obviously make.
Grogu get away from those pincers, boy you are gonna lose an arm

LEGO is starting to realize its customers are taking a beating in their discretionary spending ability. You see it with the immediate discounts at release of new sets outside the official LEGO store. This price point might be another indication of adaptation to a worsening economic climate.

Yeah I hope LEGO rectifies that for Andor Season 2, even if they go back and release sets on some of the scenes from Season 1 they skipped over. The other series I think got a fair amount of sets though, especially since Book of Boba Fett shares so many characters and locations with Mando already its basically a sub-theme WITHIN a sub-theme.
I like this new Mando set, gives me strong Bionicle vibes which is a plus for me.
One of the sets you will find almost immediately with -20-30% price from RRP in ordinary shops selling LEGO sets and then I can say it could be probably good to buy. Otherwise overpriced like the most of the SW related sets.

I came here to make this observation about the pilot, but knew someone (you) would already have raised it. Agreed.
$50 is highway robbery
Nice. I'm in.

LEGO is primarily in the business of making reusable parts that look like, well, LEGO. Not perfect model kits. They're (probably) never gonna meet the expectations of those who want accessories like those made by 3rd parties, and that's likely intentional.
Wait for sale, $40 tops.
I know it's probably based on concept stuff but given the set only includes Mando, Bo and Grogu who are they expecting to go in the spider droid?
Why does it have an opening canopy but not alien driver/pilot? Would it really have been that much more expensive to include an actual baddy?
$50 seems like a lot, but price/piece matches, and there's a high level of detail, so seems worth it.
The technic legs make me curious. Wonder if it's just for stability or if there's some hidden function to it. Would be neat to see a sort of grab attack or crawling feature.
They couldn't add some color to it? The episode had lighting to make the tank and pilot monstrous, but here we have just another drab grey machine.
Good set definitely will buy on discount
That scene was so dark, I couldn't make out the robot spider. So, maybe this is a good model? If anything, it's a really nice gray parts pack with nice minifigs. :)
For once in 18 months, it's a fairly priced Star Wars set...
Looks like a solid build but as a set it's boring.
Idk, Star Wars 2023 has been fairly disappointing so far.
This catches my eye insofar as the crab bot and creature inside were the coolest thing in Mando S3 so far, but I'd still like to know what they actually ARE before I'd get the set.
I wonder if it will include any gray pieces.
This one looks ok but suffers from the inevitable lack of full context/information given to TLG by Lucasfilm.
The "tank" isn't really a tank at all in the show, and there's no evidence whatsoever in this set that it incorporates an organic creature. It's an easy fix, though, as replacing one of the trans-red 1x1 studs with an alien eye piece (like the dianoga) will make it much better.
Hopefully it has the General Grievous-like character and will be revealed with the official images. Otherwise, a pretty lazy attempt at the episode recreation.
The build looks good, but the colors are going to make me skip it. Also, $50 for 2.5 characters? Bo Katan looks great, especially with her arm printing. The new darksaber looks good, but it looks odd without the right hilt. I don't really expect Lego to introduce a new hilt mold, but it looks a bit strange without it. Nevertheless, it is a much needed improvement.
Looks pretty cool actually but I think it needs a minifigure of the strange humanoid that operated and be $10 cheaper (for what comes in the box). I'll look for it on sale.
*sigh*. Did that wacko hairdresser who tried to produce Nic Cage’s failed Superman movie end up getting hired for The Mandalorian?
The Giant Enemy Spider
Wasn’t this one supposed to be €/$ 45.- ?
And I’m kinda missing a ( buildable ) figure that operates the spider tank.
I do like the updated Bo-Katan and darksaber hilt, but since I bought “trouble on tatooine” just for the then updated mando fig, Ill wait till this one comes in a cheaper set…
I wish it included Grogu's little floating crib/pram/chair. I would even be fine with a custom Grogu figure that was integrated into it, to ensure proper scale. With a little translucent piece to make it seem like it was floating.
Still wouldn't buy it though.
I Wish i can get the Spider Tank it's looks Awesome!
@the_red_wheelbarrow:
It’s almost exactly 9.5 cents per piece.
@dylanmitchell:
There’s a similar piece that includes a tsuba in the design, but I think this might be new.
@ResIpsaLoquitur:
I’m just going to point out that the production cost on a case of 1x1 tiles is at least 24x as high as a case of 2x4 bricks, while the weight is only marginally higher. If they charge by weight, it’s just going to force prices higher for everything, resulting in no net improvement.
An accurate Darksaber and Bo Katan with arm printing at a great price (where I live, at least)? Win!
This looks fantastic and the price seems fairly reasonable! If I was still collecting SW sets it would be a must have.
@SolidState said:

I doubt it, seems like it would be listed as a minifigure and I could totally see Disney withholding info about it being a vehicle and not just a big droid.
But overall cool set and the dark saber piece is long overdue.
It would be great if there was some internal space like a tank, but the scale may be just too small to allow this?

nah, its a completely new piece
I like the set! Will buy it for sure. :)
That's a 35$ set at most. And I'm gonna wait till it's at 30% as usual.

Yeah, as a consumer, my concern is primarily with the overall mass of the set I'm getting relative to the price, and less the number of parts. A bunch of small parts *might* add up to a proper price, but overall mass seems a like a cleaner measurement. (A single baseplate is literally *one* piece, but it's fairly large and versatile. Meanwhile, that lone "Stephanie in a Polybag" from several years ago felt fairly overpriced at 5 bucks for four small parts.)

No comment on how this totally looks like a Ghost in the Shell Spider Tank?
Set looks great, but honestly I don't need a giant crab tank droid for display. That said, I would still like the minifigs as I don't have any updated ones, and of course I don't have the dark saber. I might wait and see what resale of the minifigs looks like first, and if they are too expensive hope to get the set at a discount.
Jesus wept. Talk about daylight robbery.
Very cool overall, but... we just gonna ignore the lack of ANY box art?? Also, where's the little eyeball-brain-spider Grievous-ish guy?!

Gotta go for wanting 'price per weight' too since so many sets these days contain alot more detailing made up of small parts and tiles making the 'price per piece' too far skewed.
Also, gotta agree that for the size of it, it feels about £15 too expensive for me. I love mechs, and I love spiders, so designwise its a win for me. Just gonna wait for a sale before I buy it though.
Amazing set! Love the new Bo (other pics show she has a new face print and hair mold) and the darksaber isn’t bad at all. The build looks great too!
Also +1 to all the price per weight fans here.
I didn't bought a Lego set for years (except some little one just for parts). But I might be interested by this one (even if I'm not a fan at all of all things Disney Star Wars). The model looks rather good, has cool parts, and it could be interesting for me to study, as I'm not very good at building mecha-type MOCs... well played, Lego (too bad I will have to pay also for minifigs that don't interest me at all, but it's normal for a set like this to have minifigs...)
Not worth the $85 AUD.
Further images show it can open, but it seems there is nothing inside?

I'm pretty sure the spider tank thing was grey and black, with a hint of grey and black, so it's colors are perfect...
That's a good start. With a little bit more work, this can be made to a "Shell Walker" from Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West. For one, It's much more colourful! Also has plenty of weapons and a cargo hold. Not Mandalorian but Forbidden West is just as cool.
It would be unfortunate if they didn't include the mysterious pilot, who looked like something straight out of Bionicle and was referred to many online as a Rahkshi!
Dark. Saber. Dark. Saber. DARKSABER!!!!
So anyway, I’m pretty excited about that new darksaber mold.

Listing =/= selling. All you need to list something is to have it in hand (or be willing to have your bluff called). You don’t need to be able to prove mental competence, pay attention to price fluctuations after you list it, or prove that you’re not trying to influence the price guide.
@ResIpsaLoquitur:
As a MOC builder, I’m concerned with the overall usefulness of the parts. You know what I use 2x4 bricks for? Pedestals to display minifigs on. And packing material for MOCs. If I’m buying the set for parts, they need to be ones I’ll actually use. If I’m buying it to build, I generally don’t want it to look like Duplo For Tom Thumb when I’m done.

Wdym? There are a lot of relatively well made and full sets from Mando, Armored Marauder comes to mind first as well as Tatooine.
I enjoyed the episode - but trying to look at this from the point of view of the kid in me - it's ok but all you can really do is re-enact one relatively quick scene.
Not knocking the design or figures, but sometimes i question LEGO Star Wars judgement in subject matter...
The sheer amount of Dark Bluish Gray elements is great for MOCing, and I love the new Bo-Katan minifigure. Arm printing is always a plus, and I'm glad they updated her colour scheme to be a bit lighter than her The Clone Wars counterpart.
I'm glad that they bothered with a new Darksaber blade mould, but I think some printing with the white highlights would have been beneficial. The current weapon looks quite dull, but again, it's great that LEGO even bothered.
This looks to have a lot of https://brickset.com/parts/4109810 , but 40646: Daffodils likely still has more with 56.

Yeah, so I said "overall mass," not "mass" as in "I want a brick." If a Lego Art set (which can have hundreds of 1x1 tiles or plates) has the same weight-per-price ratio as a small polybag, I'm happy.
I don't object to a set like this as kibble fodder. I just want to know that the overall experience is approximate to any other set in terms of overall value. If your calculus for price value is "overall kibble fodder," that's fine, but some of us can pull off kibble from a trip to the pick-a-brick bin just as easily. Meanwhile, some of us also want a set like this *just* for the set and not for kibble, and the ratio of price to the final package doesn't always compute.
This is relative to the buyer. But a fair calculus to you isn't a fair calculus to everyone.

Crappy movie, but what an awesome looking thing that was.
I am only really interested in the new Bo-Katan, the new Darksaber and Din's new helmet print. But since I already own older variants of these characters, there's no good reasoning for buying this set at £46.99, especially since the build isn't all that interesting and doesn't even include the alien cyborg thingy that rides the spider tank.
I'll have to give it a pass.
I saw this article when it was first posted and kind of wanted it. Just watched the episode and now I'm convinced I NEED IT!!! No guarantees but this might be the first Star Wars set I buy for myself since the UCS Cantina
